I love the fact DH started this thread because I just like the banter.  You can be you.  That’s what is fun about posting here.

I also like the shout outs back to the JSO days.  Talking about legends? That’s OG shit right there.  Some people want to throw shade but X4 was the original landing spot for some of us that wanted something better.  For 20+ years this place has obliged.

I get where DH is coming from. Life happens.  I have 2 teenage daughters and it’s tough to keep up with all of their activities much less WTF the Packers may be doing.

I can go to Packers game whenever I want and living in NE Wisconsin I can tune them in whenever I want.  But I’ve lived through the dark ages and the best of times being 50 years old.  It’s OK to pick and choose at this point.

All I know is there’s a lot of stink attached to this current team. Maybe it changes, maybe it doesn’t.  But I’ve shifted gears toward other things my kids are involved in.  You only get one shot at that. Doesn’t make you less of a fan either.  If you lived through those shit 80s teams you have earned the tight to take a casual interest right now.

I've been a fan since the middle '60's, so it was very fun the first couple of years or so, not much fun at all for the next 20 years, then became very fun again in the late '90's, and has been one helluva ride since then.

But I approach each season and game with excitement and enthusiasm. When I was younger, it was mostly from ignorance, as those that grew up in places other than Green Bay/Wisconsin can attest. Now it's mostly because I'm too old to get lathered up over poor play/losing. It still pisses me off immensely, but it passes fairly quickly. So I come here to rant and rave. It's like therapy!

In any case, I'll be a fan until I'd dead, and Sundays are for football. We've missed some games when they've played in Atlanta over the last few years, and we might miss a game on TV for a local event, when vacationing, or other occasions every once in a while, but I'll catch a whole lot more than I miss. Even when I have to watch via stream.

I pray that x4 never loses its' staying power. It's not only the best place to get the skinny on team news, it's tremendously fun to read and interact with the people on here.
As an aside, I belonged to this excellent motorcycle message board during the early to middle 2000's that was similar to x4; great people, from semi-pro racers to casual enthusiasts, very informative and active in creating content, and even would schedule meet-and-greets at local races or organized rides.
But one day, posts started becoming less frequent, and each subsequent week would be less, until it reached a point where it was dead. All in about a 6 month period.
I shudder to think something like that would ever happen here.

I grew up in western NY on a dairy farm.  In the 60’s with no tv, I listened to Vince Lombardi & Bart Starr on the radio and became a diehard fan.  In the 80’s I lived in Latin America and listened to games via shortwave radio.  I made it thru the pitiful 70’s & 80’s and the last 30 years have been a pleasure.  In my opinion, being a fan is kind of like taking on marriage vows - β€œfor better or for worse.”

If living through Packer seasons in the 70's and 80's didn't drive me away from this team, I doubt anything could. I've always been a Packer fan and always will be. I'm not a bandwagon guy who jumps ship at a little downturn, like some so called fans to my immediate west are known to do. The first Packer game I ever watched was The Ice Bowl. I've been a Jerry Kramer fan, ever since. Bart Starr fan, too!

I grew up in the 70s and 80s.  Packer wins seemed more special back then.  For the last 20 years I’ve been expecting wins.  Even when they won, they didn’t win good enough.  It took a lot of the excitement away.  There is a part of me that would like to see a rebuilding of the franchise right now.  Just to get that back.  It’s also possible that is just something from my childhood that will never come back.  Maybe I’m just too old and cynical now.

Since there is some wonderful reminiscing going on, my very earliest Packer memories were around 1966-67. Wish I could tell you I remember the Super Bowls , but  I don’t.

The earliest game I actually remember was listening to the Packers destroy Cleveland something like 55-7 at County Stadium on a cold gray day. I remember listening to the game on the radio  in my parents kitchen and I was jealous that my Dad was at the game.

He was a Milwaukee cop and in those days, all a cop had to do was flash his badge and they let them in free…..now we hate cops. What a world.
