For the comings and goings of the soon to be rebuilt bullpen, additional starting pitching, and bench players, here is a thread.

Veras is the first to be served his papers, per MJS (link to come later). Has to clear waivers but looks to be a FA soon. Of the three main clowns (Veras, Loe and Parra), Veras is the guy I like the best. But they all suck.

A lot of people got obsessed with Jeffress because he could throw hard but when you look at his numbers his control has been a mess. He's a very high risk high reward guy and as of today he's done nothing to suggest he's a prospect that is going to turn the corner.

Sure looks to me like Milwaukee is pretty much gutting the bullpen and it would be nice to see them pick up a couple of good veteran relievers. Affeldt in particular would be a nice addition.

Can't really argue with the numbers but I still can't make myself believe that he is a good hitting coach. I'm still going to go with TLR hired him as a favor and maybe Matheny figured that out and Mac knew it. Guess that wouldn't explain Mattingly hiring him however. Donny Baseball knows a bit about hitting however...
Good call out. Maybe I'm wrong with jeffries. That means Melvin was wrong on jeffries? No?? That makes the trade fairer when you consider the SS we got from Cali.

Johnny Boy?
It seems Melvin is trying to rebuild the pen with minor league free agents. I personally like that he is going for a bunch of guys with upside (is there any other kind of reliever...).

Jairo Asencio

Michael Olmsted A lot to like here.

Arcenio Leon woof, woof, woof.

I still think Melvin gives a Gagne contract to someone, though I would rather just load up on these youngsters and see who sticks. If he waits out until Feb, there might be a guy willing to take a shorter contract, which I could live with.
I'm just 1 of those fans that thinks you start the 5 best starters you have, if has to be all RH's, so be it.

With the situational moves made today, IMO its a must to have 2 lefties in the pen if you want to contend ... at least makes it more viable. IMO, you have to have a lefty out of the pen on EVERY night during the course of the season.

Just me, but I think if Narvy is decent and you have 5 strong RH's ... his left arm would be more valuable in the pen. He probably won't like it but since he is coming off injury it might be the best way to use him anyway.
Not about the Crew but a crazy Marlins/Jays trade brewing. Miami basically getting rid of everything from last offseason. Except of course the new stadium paid for by taxpayers.

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN The Blue Jays-Marlins trade is done... This is going to be one of the all-timers, with Reyes, Johnson, Bonifacio, Buck, Buehrle...holy crow.
the Marlins are a joke, and that franchise should just be shut down.

But this could really backfire on the Jays. Reyes is overpaid, but if he stays on the field his contract is survivable. Johnson is a one year thing. Buerhle's contract is terrible, that was a regretable move. The Jays did give up talent in the deal, and could be exciting next year, but when Reyes gets hurt for over a month, it will start to really smell bad.
