I thought last year's pre-season, Boyle was fantastic.... until the Chiefs said "enough is enough" and started blitzing him hard and forcing him to throw on the move.  That was where Boyle showed why he was an undrafted FA and not a 1st rounder.  He really had problems dealing with the Chiefs pressure and looked pretty awful for that final couple of quarters to finish pre-season in '18.

That said, there's enough there with Boyle that I have hope that maybe he could be decent if pressed into some sort of emergency starting role if he gets some help around him.

Watched the game. Some thoughts....

Kizer is not an NFL QB. He might actually be worse than his  0-15 record as a starter says he is.

McCray looked good.

Tackling has clearly not been a point of emphasis in practice thus far.

J’mon is wayyyyy deep in his own head. He knows how to get open. He’s actually very good at it. He just can’t catch. Not quite ready to pull the plug on him. Can’t give up on a reciever that can easily get open. But he’s got to get out of his own way. He’s got 3 weeks to figure it out.

GB needs to either start Boyle in front of Kizer next week or scrub the whole thing and find a veteran QB. Need to see Boyle against actual defensive starters.

Kumerow is the 3rd reciever. He is good.

Ty Summers has a whiff of β€œfootball player” to him. Loved that he wanted to talk to reporters about his disappointment over the tackles he didn’t make when asked about the 9 solos he did make.

It’s my opinion the 3rd down horn was done to piss everyone off in an effort to let Lambeau fans know they’ve become way to quiet on 3rd downs and something had to done. It worked perfectly. Don’t expect to ever hear the horn again.

He's way up against his own head now. But he does what everyone wants a WR to do. Find separation. He's good at it. It's like watching Eric Ebron. Always open. Always dropped. But Eric finally got it together last year and made Pro Bowl on a new team. 13 TD's. Hard to compartmentalize a WR that can't catch. But that's the fix you fix. . You cut bait on a WR that can't get open.

What bugged me most about Moore was his attitude after the TD catch. Spiking the ball and stomping off was very unprofessional IMHO.  Sort of like, "Take that you a-hole fans!"

He’s really not made any plays to date and ha squandered opportunities, lot of pent up frustration I’m sure. It probably wasn’t directed at fans and more about FINALLY making some kind of positive play. He will stock on the PS I’m sure, he’s a talented guy. Not to beat a dead horse, but people though Adams was done after an inconsistent rookie season and an uninspiring start to year 2.

J’Mon Spriggs

Brett Kizer

I’d like to see the young CBs against a real offense. They have speed.

Kumerow looks .... smooth. That’s the best word, I think. He just looks like he can slide in to a spot and play.

Lane Taylor has to be feeling a good deal of pressure.

Fackrell seems to mostly just run upfield most of the time. On the one play he didn’t, he surprised Khalil and walked him back nicely.

preseason football is brutal to watch, but at least I didn’t pay for tickets to that mess.

I took it completely different, I thought he is so frustrated with himself that it was the only way he could show it. Couldn't bring himself to really celebrate knowing that he has stunk.

Don't care about his frustration. He is a pro, act like you have been there before , not a knucklehead.

AR hasn’t played 16 games in either of the last two seasons. Obviously, the Packers aren’t going far without him, but it makes sense to have a competent backup in case AR ends up missing one or more games this season. His age and injury history make the the backup QB position more important than it would be for most other teams. Therefore, IMO, it makes sense to bring in a journeyman quality backup QB who can keep the team afloat for a few games if need be....a guy who has at least shown that he was at one time capable of managing an NFL caliber offense. A Dilfer type guy.

At the very least, find somebody who has at least won a game before. Is it really that difficult to do???

The Hundley experiment failed miserably. Good teams learn from their mistakes.

At the half, in the interview with MLF the interviewer was gushing over Kizer and MLF basically said he needs to watch the tape and that Kizer has some work to do.

That said, if at some point they don't put Boyle in for a half before Kizer, then Kizer is the #2 and Boyle risks getting cut (ala Taysom Hill).  It's all about play time in the preseason.  The more Kizer plays, the more x4 is going to end up disappointed.

I had the same reaction! He’s a head case now, maybe not Antonio brown or Terrell Owens but in that neighborhood and all because his catch mechanics are so bad.

Did someone say veteran QB backup? After looking at what could be available, it makes me long for the days of the grizzled backups like Don Strock and Steve DeBerg:

Earl Morrall.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Morrall
Morrall, who also occasionally punted, played 21 seasons in the National Football League as both a starter and reserve. In the latter capacity, he became known as one of the greatest backup quarterbacks in NFL history.[1]During the 1968 Baltimore Colts season, he filled in for an injured Johnny Unitas leading to an NFL championship shutout victory and Super Bowl III, which they lost to the New York Jets. For the 1972 Miami Dolphins season (both under coach Don Shula) he filled in for an injured Bob Griese leading to Super Bowl VII and the only perfect season in NFL history. Morrall made Pro Bowlappearances following the 1957 and 1968 seasons.

...

When regular Colts signal caller Johnny Unitas was injured in the final exhibition game, Morrall became the team's starter. Morrall proceeded to lead the Colts to a 13-1 record, then added two playoff victories en route to winning the NFL's Most Valuable Player award
