I have a schtick?  Define production. Is playing college ball against 3 or 4 guys that could make the NFL the same as playing against 11 guys that made the NFL?  I guess my "schtick" is I don't see the college game as equal to the NFL game like you and many others do.

The NFL & college football are different games!  Remember folks, you heard it here first.

He didn't have a lot of splash plays at GA.     No FF, no picks, not a ton of TFL's, and 1.5 sacks playing behind that insane DL.

Obviously I don't know what his assignments were in that D, but you would think with that line that he would have had ample opportunity to roam and make plays.   Compare that to Micha Parsons who had 5 sacs and 4 FF's in his last college season.  Roquan Smith in his last season at GA had 6.5 sacks and 1 FF.

I'm firmly in wait and see mode with Walker.

Yup and I came across some good insight on his role at Georgia
They had 3 prize bulls on the DL and the coaches wanted to turn them loose - in order to do that- they needed one of the ILBs to " make them right"

( ironically enough, Blake Martinez was asked to do the same thing in GB and he bitched about it on his way out the door -  because he wouldn't get the stats needed to boost his FA contract)

What that means is Quay Walker was in a clean- up role while Nakobe Dean was free to launch just like the DLs. Walker had to cover up any leaks that arose because the DL was shooting gaps vs run and pass. Dean gets the stats, Walker does not

Some scouts questioned Walkers' instincts, but again, they really weren't on display in the role he played for Georgia defense. The Packers scouts are projecting that he can be a playmaker based on athleticism and Joe Barry has a great record with ILB's  to get it out of him.

Per the draft reports, Quay Walker was gonna go in the next 3-5 picks if the Packers didn't take him - meanwhile Dean lasted to 83rd pick ( RD3)
That's rather telling. Nakobe Dean was the media & fan darling, NFL scouts saw it very differently on draft day.

With his lateral twitch and movement skills, Walker has outstanding mirroring skills vs. the run and uses his long arms to punch himself off blocks or lasso ball carriers out of his reach. Although he doesn’t have the statistical rΓ©sumΓ© of a playmaker, he has a high batting average as a tackler, and his traits and trajectory suggest his best football is ahead of him. Overall, Walker is still developing his instincts,
especially in coverage, but he aces the eye test with his exceptional combination of size, length and athleticism to dominate vs. the run. He has the potential to be a four-down impact linebacker in the NFL.

Go Packers

I don't know, the thumbs down contest between ammo and YA is mildly entertaining.  Cracks me up.

Well, if YaYa didn't have me blocked I would just send him PMs.  But since he's blocked me I can't do that.   The only way to communicate is by an active thead.  And since he has me blocked he has to click on each of my posts to know what I said so he can give me a thumb down. Wierd.  So I hereby challenge him to unblock me and I will never reply to any of his posts again.   The ball is in your hands YaYa.

There are a couple of dudes on this board unimpressed by Quay Walker. Holy shit! I can't remember the last time we had a LB who could take on blocks like this kid.

He's going to be good.  He's got great speed and tackling skills.  Just needs experience so that he's not thinking too much.  When this kid learns the defense and how to read offenses?  Look out.

I don’t know that Quay is going to immediately stand out. He’s still a rookie playing a tough position. Pat Queen, Devin Bush, Devin White, Isaiah Simmons, Tremaine Edmunds and plenty of other 1st Round ILBs have had growing pains their first years.

Nice thing is, he's already better than Barnes.  And Campbell is way better than AJ ever was.

@DH13 posted:

I just hope Campbell stays at the level he was at last year.  It's very unusual to have a guy with his history suddenly crank out an all-pro year and then maintain it at his age.  Maybe just superstition on my part.

A big part of Campbell's ascension was reportedly how Joe Barry deployed him and took advantage of his skillset. There were articles along those lines last fall, noting that ILB was kinda Barry's specialty

IF that's the case, then we can move beyond superstition and plan for another excellent season from him.

The Green Bay Packers Are Investing In Defense

https://www.sharpfootballanaly...-devonte-wyatt-2022/

"...One of the most interesting aspects of the NFL offseason is that it’s the one time when teams can truly tell us what they think they are and where they need to go. Between free agency and the draft, we get a glimpse of how teams approach that balance. Over the next week or so, we’ll look at a few teams and what their offseason plans signal."

"The Green Bay Packers surprised some stupid people when they didn’t draft a wide receiver with either of their first-round picks during the 2022 NFL Draft. Instead, Green Bay went to the defensive side of the ball with the selections of a pair of Georgia Bulldogs in linebacker Quay Walker and interior defender Devonte Wyatt.

Green Bay eventually doubled up on receivers with Christian Watson in the second round and Romeo Doubs in the fourth. This came after the Packers stayed out of the free agency rush, adding only veteran Sammy Watkins for the receiver room.

Having some type of replacement plan for the loss of Davante Adams was viewed as the top priority by many stupid fans, but the Packers put a bigger emphasis this offseason on fixing a defense that was 21st in EPA per play in 2021.

After back-to-back MVP seasons from Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay could be justified in thinking the quarterback play and a proven offensive system could make up for a potential lack of high-end talent in pass catchers.
The opposite can’t really be said about the defense."
