So besides the obvious question in #12, is Bakh next? I believe his cap number is 20 million in 2023.

I would have to think he's next to be asked for a pay cut. If not, I would think the Packers would entertain a trade for him vs a release.

Bakh's contract is only slated to go up $5.5M this season in base salary. He's already been paid that huge bonus. Re-doing the Jones deal effectively is a wash.

If the Packers trade 69, they clear only $6M off the cap but absorb 23M in dead cap. If they think he will play 3 more years then it makes sense to add another year (he has two left) and kick some of that cash down the road. But if they think he may be 1 and done, then it makes sense to just pay him, and then cut him next year when the salary jumps to $10M and the dead cap number drops to $11M.

Of course if he wants to play with his hetero soulmate, then you probably could ship him to Vegas or NYJ. Clear a little room and pick up a 3rd rounder or so.

Interestingly if they are going to trade Rodgers the Packers would have to come up with an extra $8.7m to take the entire dead cap hit this year.  Looks like Jones' restructure may have just gave them that.

A tale of two Aarons, a team oriented one and a self centered douche bag one

What? He got the contract he deserved when he was extended and went back-to-back MVP. He's either going to restructure and stay a Packer or restructure and alleviate some pre-June 1 trade cap pain.

If you want to talk about actual self-centered douche bags, then talk about Kirk Counsins and all the guaranteed money he required to even consider signing with zero flexibility and then what he's done since. Oh and his cap hit this year is MORE than Rodgers.

Wonder if Jones was willing to re-do his contract knowing AR is staying and wants to help free up some cap space in order to sign some other folks.  I know GB is over the cap right now, so there’s lots of work to do. Maybe this is just part of taming the cap. But Jones loves AR and vice versa. So maybe AJ is just trying to do hit part.

I’m still in the camp that AR is a Packer for 2023 season (at least). So until some trade is official (he ain’t retiring in a Brady year), I’ll continue to believe this.

So Cousins held the Vikings hostage before signing?

Rodgers is not holding the team hostage. The Packers could trade him right now while he's in the dark and he's completely powerless to do anything. He said he doesn't want to drag this out and wants to help the team figure out what direction they are going quickly. Team leadership even went into their February break on the same page about timing after their end of season meeting with Rodgers.

Is it really a terrible thing that Rodgers is taking a few weeks after the Super Bowl to determine what he wants to do and whether he's in the right mindset to go again, and if so, what is best for him? No.

If this was occurring in June, it would actually be a story. But it's February and this is going to be over even before the NFL Draft. The Packers will know what they will need position-wise in the draft, they'll know if they have 12 or Love, they'll know what their cap situation is. People just want to hate on Rodgers because he's gone into a spiritual/self-healing mentality. And the media just wants to make drama because it generates click-bait ad revenue, website engagement, and talking points.

Jones went out of his way this week to give his support to Love and said he's ready to be a starter.

Bak has a $9.5 M roster bonus due on March 20 - that's just a placeholder
Fair guess is they take that $ 9.5 M and spread it out over 2-3 years + a void season to ease the cap hit

If they did that, his 2023 cap drops to about $20M for next year and that's about right for an elite LT. Both the player and the MDs say the knee is good to go

Either take $5 million less, or get cut and make nothing and hope to find a new home as an older RB. Not exactly the noblest of causes and another example of why players get what they can while they can.

IOW: He feels his best opportunity and money is in Green Bay even with the restructuring .

It works, you are here almost daily jabberng about it.    Me too, it’s fun.

Everyone should listen to the latest podcast Locked on Packers with Bukowski & Carson Palmer (Same agent as Love, Rodgers -- David Dunn)

Carson Palmer said....every player, including ones that just signed brand new deals are ALWAYS angling to get a new deal.

So I assure you, Aaron Jones is doing what's in HIS best interest - just like Davante did last year. Can't blame the players for any of that

I didn’t mention AR.  My comment was in reference to you suggesting Cousins “and all the guaranteed money he required to even consider signing” with the Vikings.

He asked. The Vikes obliged. They new what they were giving KC before they offered the contract.

Not certain what that has to do with AR.

I think he'll be back," Jones said. "I think he wants to go out on his own. Like, if he's retiring, I think he wants to go out on his own, right? So, I definitely see him coming back and playing, and I hope definitely it's in Green Bay. He's a great leader for us, and, you know, a guy like that he brings a lot of people along.
"

-Aaron Jones, during same interview from above post in which he praises Jordan Love

Jones knows if he disses Rodgers, he'll never see the ball again. If he doesn't praise Love, he may be in his future QB's doghouse from the get-go. Praise both and keep your cards close to your pads as to who you really want to QB the team.

Jones may be one of the most respectful players in the entire NFL.  It would shock me to hear him say anything negative about anyone.  Always has had a great attitude and a positive outlook for all players, even ones he "competes" with (Dillon, Jamal).  He's the Donald Driver of this club.  Pure class act.
