Aaron Rodgers reportedly wants an opt-out clause inserted into his next contract according to Mike Garafolo of NFL.com.

I don’t know who wrote that a Red Zone article but they’re morons.  Small market team who just happens to be one of the teams in the top of the league in revenue, which still has no bearing on ****ing contracts or the cap.

Of course Rodgers contract is going to be unique since the Vikings signed Gus Frerotte to a fully guaranteed contract.

“Garafolo says Rodgers is is seeking a clause that would allow him to renegotiate his deal whenever another quarterback tops his salary.“

if he wants to renegotiate a better deal every time another qb tops his salary, then he should be willing to take a pay cut when he’s not the best qb in the league. He wasn’t last season.

I think it takes a good bit of nerve to ask your team to give you a raise every time another qb gets a better deal than your current one.

I agree that he deserves a new contract, and he should be the highest paid qb in the league, but IMO the Packers shouldn’t have to revisit his salary every time some dum GM decides to grossly overpay for some downright mediocre qb.

1)  This is a rumor with no context.

2)  Speculation has always been his contract was going to be unique, like tying it to a percentage of the cap, which would be automatic.  Asking to have an opt out would be discretionary.  Do you truly believe Rodgers would ask for a new contract for every stupid Cousins deal?  It’s the point of signing a long term contract that will let him restructure mid way through if the salaries become stupid again.

3)  Dumb **** rumor guy didn’t include the length of the contract either.  So if Rodgers signs a 7 year contract is an opt out really that out of the question?  Could it be he wants this to be the last contract he signs but wants to keep the contract relevant to being the best QB in football?  Oh the outrage!

Never met Rodgers, but all indications are is that he's not an idiot and I wouldn't expect him to expect to be paid like the best when he no longer is the best.

Having the clause to do it is not demanding to do it. Options, life is full of them. What you do with them is important, not that they exist.

Just another reason why I've decided not to renew my season tickets next year.  I just can't buy into this league anymore, support it with my money.  The idea of a group of men forming a bond as a team to win a game for the love of the game is gone.  Money, it ruins everything.  And as Willie and Merle sang:

Well, it's only money
It will go away
It's only change in pockets
And it'll get back to mine someday
But it's only money
And it will go away

Before the Vikings game he was 4-1 and was on pace for:

  • 67.7% of his passes (5th in the NFL),
  • 403 completions (1st in NFL)
  • 42 TD (1st in NFL)
  • 104.1 rating (2nd in NFL)

If you're factoring in the 4 passes he threw against MIN and the game he played with a still broken collarbone against CAR, then yeah his stats look very average in 2017. Small sample size for sure, but it's not hard to make the argument he was the best QB in the NFL before his injury.

Pay the man, give him whatever he wants BUT GB needs to be able to protect itself from injury. I don't think Rodgers is injury prone, but I do think he takes more sacks than the OL gives up. I'd love to see someone gather the data on how sacks should be charged, AR is probably gets charged the most.

I like how JSOnline says "Rodgers wants more freedom", when in context he's talking about the team and not being completely restrained by his contract.

After reading that link MJ posted, I hope someone wipes out Barr's knee.  That was some bitch as ****. Too bad their playoff strategy of "hurt Rodgers" went so well for them.

Yesterday in Lake Tahoe. Rodgers pulled a drive on 11 into a creek and trees and tall grass and that ball was completely gone forever.

Rodgers Caddie walked up and dropped a ball along the point of entry into a lateral hazard and looked around for Rodgers.

Rodgers was crawling around in the creek and trees and tall grass and popped out holding his golf ball well after his caddie gave up on ever finding that ball in that tangled mess.

"I don't give up easily" is what Rodgers told the on course reporter....

Rodgers want's another Lombardi far more than we do.
