Doesn't really mean anything until they name a starter

This is Carroll being an idiot again.

Matt Flynn made his bed by going there. Shoulda stayed in Green Bay if he wasn't named the starter immediately.

They're paying him an awful lot to backup a 3rd round rookie if Wilson starts
Might it be that Matt Flynn just isn't as good as people think?

Been a weird offseason for him as it appeared he was the top FA QB on the market but gets passed over by his old coach in Miami and signs with the Hags who immediately take a QB in the third round.
I mentioned it before, but watchinig Wilson when the Broncos played Seattle...the guy looks for real. And will only get better. Smart, poised, fearless, confident and quick. Plus he made some pretty darn good throws too.
so you sign a FA QB and give him $10mil guaranteed for what reason?
you go with Flynn unless he fails and then you go Wilson. you don't go Wilson and use Flynn as your fallback unless you want two screwed up QBs. let the rookie learn no matter how good he looks in preseason.
I spent three days in Seattle last week. Those that cover the team agree Flynn is the starter and Wilson is the back up.

Week 3 of the preseason isn't the time to play musical chair at QB. If you want to take a look at Wilson with the starters you do that last week.

This is SOP for Carroll.
Meh, whoop-de-do. If Carroll wants to see Wilson with the starters agianst the starters this is as good a time as any. He knows what he has in Flynn and likely rolls with him in the opener but Flynn's gotten a lot of snaps already, see what the kid has in these meaningless games.
I've never been a big UW football fan (That's about to change though), but Wilson is a pretty impressive football player. Whether he starts right away or not is yet to be seen. I think in the long run Seattle will end of going with Wilson.
The only reason Flynn won't succeed in Seattle is either their piss poor OLine or their piss poor receivers. If they get him some receivers he can trust and an OLine he can trust, he will lead them to the playoffs. He's a good QB, but he's not the type that can carry a team. He's a Trent Dilfer/Brad Johnson type who can manage the offense, will patiently take what the defense gives him, and won't screw up. He won't win games for them on his own like Rodgers does and Favre do/did for the Packers, but he won't lose games for them either. They have a good running game, they need to bolster the OLine, get some receivers in there, and build a strong defense. Get those things and Flynn could run the offense and bring home a Lombardi.
IMO ...

Flynn can be a controller of well-oiled offensive machine that knows the machine inside and out ...

Put Flynn in control of a disconbobulated mess with all kinds of weak links and you need a gunslinger with mobility to make up for all the weaknesses in the system ... enter Wilson.

I'd take Flynn back in a heartbeat for how MM runs his offense ... provided we receive a draft pick to do it of course. Smiler

If there were a true Bill Walsh guru running the offense in Seattle right now, IMO Flynn would be flourishing ...

In defense of Carroll, perhaps on both occassions, he went with his best available option.

Flynn may not be the next Rodgers, but I would let him start a few games before labeling him a Dilfer.
Carroll needs to win this season. If he doesn't he'll join about 5 others who will be ex-NFL head coaches come Jan. 2013. If Wilson gives him the best chance to be a winner he has to go with him.
I don't know why this topic has gained so much traction; Flynn and Wilson no longer play in Wisconsin. If either one was vying to back-up Rodgers, then we could have a real discussion. Carroll has made this mess; let him try to weasel out of it without our help. Big Grin

I disagree. I know it is different when teams game plan for you. And some QBs can't handle that. But I don't think Flynn is one of them. He has spent his career sitting behind someone, or being under valued by teams and coaches. He is motivated to succeed. At LSU it wasn't Jamarcus Russell who won a national championship - it was Flynn who sat on the bench until his senior year. Then he gets drafted in the 6th round. And out plays a 2nd round pick - Brohm. I wouldn't bet against Flynn.

Wilson is a good QB and will be a good one in the NFL. He is a film watching, offence studying stud. But Flynn has seen more at the NFL level than Wilson has. He has a better idea what to do when he see something that might appear strange to Wilson when the real bullets fly. From an experience stand point, it might be Flynn that provides the best chance of winning. It will be interesting to see how Pete views this.
I would think Carroll would be pretty involved with the coaches heading into a big preseason week 3.

But there's always time for a little Twitter Q&A, right? (went on for about 30 minutes)

Pete Says:

Got a few minutes for some Q&A! Fire away with some good creative questions!

OL J.R. Sweezy “@chawkpositivity: @PeteCarroll Who is someone 'under the media radar' that is having a TREMENDOUS camp?”

Underground tour! “@OpieBowen: @PeteCarroll Favorite tourist attraction in Seattle?”

His belief in himself and poise. “@DylanDeich_2: @PeteCarroll what's the biggest positive to @DangeRussWilson's game?”

Strength of his/her belief that draws others to follow. “@mcoelead: @PeteCarroll What makes someone a great leader?”

An endless supply! “@choidog00: @PeteCarroll how many pairs of khakis do you own?”

The competitiveness of our young leaders. “@marshallwalter: @PeteCarroll what has you the most excited about the team this year?!!”

John Moffitt, no doubt “@chawkpositivity: @PeteCarroll Funniest Seahawk player on the roster right now is... ?”

Superdome when I was with the Vikings in 89. “@RyanGuggenmos: @PeteCarroll What's the 2nd loudest stadium you've played at?”

Playoff win vs the Saints! #beastquake “@KevinErikWhite: @PeteCarroll favorite game in your tenure in Seattle?”

It's not hard, it's just taking time to give them enough chances. “@joshwells22: @PeteCarroll how hard is the decision on your starting QB?”

Ok gotta roll, thanks for all the questions! Always enjoy some Q&A with the twitter world!
Not surprised by this at all because of two reasons: 1. Packer fans overvalued Flynn. That was proven when he didn't get Schaub, Hasselback or Kolb treatment. NFL teams didn't see it. He fit a system, worked his ass off, and took advantage. I'd love to have him back as the backup...perhaps in a couple years. 2. Wilson is good. He's got an NFL arm, very smart, very mobile. Might as well see what he can do with the 1's. You play the better QB and if Wilson proves it, not much is invested in Flynn anyway.

I'm pulling for Wilson as a UW fan. Would also like to see Flynn do well, but I'm not betting on it. He's a good player....a really good backup, IMHO.

It pits the posters who go nuts over every ex-Badger against the poster who goes nuts over every ex-SEC player. Wink
not surprised at all.

Watched Russell when he was here as a freshman and just had everything you could ask for minus a few inches. Won a bunch of games here essentially on his own.

Just needed the opportunity. Packer people...in Seattle
I have professed my love for RW here previously.

My favorite Badger......ever.

My heart broke for the kid in the Rose Bowl.

He deserved better.

Also deserved better against Ohio St. and Michigan St.
Russell Wilson had that same effect on me, BK. That was a great, great season to watch. I love Montee Ball. I think he's incredible. But Wilson was the best player on the UW team last year. He was a monumental weapon, unlike we've seen in Madison and the Big Ten. Few guys have had a better season than he did in all the years I've watched the Big Ten. I can't name anyone, actually. Maybe Ron Dayne as a Freshman or Senior. Maybe Brees one of his years.
I think the constant knock on Wilson's height is blown out of proportion. His height didn't hamper him in college. Brees' height doesn't hamper him in the NFL. How tall is Vick?

Wilson can play and my guess is he'll be a productive quarterback in the NFL.

The lack of height hasn't hurt Brees backup, Chase Daniel, either. He has played very well this preseason.

FTFY.

He's going to be in the NFL for a long time, it still remains to be seen if he'll be a starter.
yeah, I can see Flynn being like Charlie Batch, who I can't believe is still carrying a clipboard in the league, but god bless him. one of the best jobs on the planet: 2nd string QB. great seats for the game, minimal wear and tear on the body and you pull in millions.

Earlier this month, Zimbabwe introduced a 50 billion dollar bill as the country battles to fight cash shortages stemming from the world's highest inflation rate. The official rate was 231 million percent as of July.

If the Packers offer Greg Jennings 875 Trillion Zimbabean's as an extension would he sign it before he ran the numbers?

For 100 Billion Zimbabwean's we could have locked up Justin Harrell for life.

Flynn seat is hotter than a devil with hemorrhoids

Why is Flynn's seat hot? Schneider and Cheaty Petey are the ones that signed him to starter money. Even if they cut him, he got paid. And they won't cut him. He'll just be a really well paid back up...unless they want to trade him to someone.
