When they've had solid supporting casts. Cam Newton had one of the top running games in the league at his disposal, two former Pro Bowl TEs, and a veteran WR to work with. Ben Roethlisberger had Jerome Bettis and Heins Ward to lean on as well as a killer defense. Andy Dalton, Matt Ryan, and Joe Flacco had strong running games, good receivers and good defenses helping them. The only times I can think of rookie QBs in bad situations really killing it are Peyton Manning and Sam Bradford.
Not saying Wilson can't or won't succeed, but I think the Seahawks should have done him a favor and let Flynn take the heat early on and stuck him in when their OLine had more experience and cohesion.

You also have the same vested interest in shilling for Peyton Manning that everybody else has in shilling for Russell Wilson. (Well, not everybody else; Iowacheese is shilling for Ricky Stanzi.)
Good point Fed. Pointing out Manning's successful career despite being thrown to the wolves immediately on crappy team doesn't help the case for Wilson at all.

People like to say Ted Thompson "tries to prove he's smarter than everyone else", but I think Pete Carroll is the worst offender of that. That's why he does things like over-draft players and sign has-been free agents. He's been right a couple times (Brandon Browner & Mike Williams for a short time), but for the most part he's been wrong (Charlie Whitehurst, James Carpenter and Terrell Owens come to mind).
John Schneider is in charge of personnel for the Hags. But I suspect Pete has his opinion appreciated.

I know as well as you do. Both have a say in the draft and personnel decisions. I guess one can make their own choice on who has more authority.
But I will say I'm sure Schneider is charge of scouting since Carroll has that coaching thing to do.

If you had ever met this kid you would understand. Terrific guy. BTW, Nick Toon is even better. Like his Dad, Al, it is almost impossible to believe that he is for real.

This has nothing to do with the topic being discussed... but Iowacheese, where are there kids football leagues that allow the use of NFL uniforms???
That's not a league...that's a picture from Iowacheese's own kids camp he runs.
They're not "official uniforms", but little league teams just about everywhere can have the NFL helmet decals. The middle school team I used to coach had the Eagles decal and we played a team that had the old Patriots decal and a team that had the Packers G. It's pretty common.
