Another Favre (Russell Wilson) Starting in the NFL.

In 2006, Pete Carroll faced a 4th and 1 against Texas late in the 4th quarter. Convert and he win's another National Championship. 

 

For reasons no one has been able to comprehend or explain. Pete took Heisman winner Reggie Bush off the field completely and ran a simple dive into the line with Lendale White. No gain. Longhorn ball. 

 

Pete never played for another title again at USC. Pete can take his "It's much easier for me to move forward than most people" quote and eff off. 

 

Pete will most definitely be haunted by his Super Bowl decision. 

Please sign him Seattle....please sign him.

ESPN has made some changes to their formula for total QBR, which has become a widely used metric to evaluate quarterbacks. How interception returns, pressure and credit for yards after the catch are factored were changed. Russell Wilson's QBR increased by 8.2 points, moving him from 12th to eighth in the rankings. Wilson was one of the top players in the NFL when under pressure. Aaron Rodgers' QBR decreased by 5.2 points, but he remained ranked second. Rodgers' QBR decreased due to how the new formula handles yards after the catch.

Wilson probably should be the "highest paid player", for as long as that lasts. (at best, 9 months). The way the NFL and salaries (cap) are growing, "next man up" takes on a whole new meaning with stars' contracts.

 

This will be highly entertaining to watch. Because we all know the MOMENT RW is signed not only would the money dry up but plenty in that locker room aren't going to be happy he got elite QB money when he's not.

 

Seattle has 33 players on it's active roster with contracts that expire at the end of the 2016 season. 

 

Okung, Wagner, Wilson, Mebane, Irvin, McDaniels, Rubin, Turbin, Kearse, Sweezy, Matthews...

 

Seattle is giving Jimmy Graham $10 million per for the next 3 years. Now Kam wants to get paid and so does Bennett before Russ takes it all.

 

When Bobby Wagner walks because all the money went to Russ and Graham then whoever is left on that defense is going to stop trying. 

 

Seattle is pretty much screwed. 

Win one Super Bowl and choke away another in back to back seasons, sign your (possibly) franchise QB to a long term deal, lose a couple or three key pieces on the defensive side of the ball and some of your experienced depth, fill in with draft picks and the occasional FA signing and hope to remain in annual contention for a competetive post season run.

 

I think most of the teams in the NFL would make that Faustian bargain.

 

But yah, the easy part is over and now John Scheider is going to have to prove that he can continue to provide the Seahawks with the players to make it all work within a much tighter budget.

They can't resign anyone else until they figure out Wilson's money if indeed they intend to make him their franchise QB. Personally, as controversial as it may be I think they should pass on signing Wilson and keep that championship D in place. Re-sign Turbin and bolster that OL, they've already won a SB with that formula. Wilson did more than manage the game, but he wasn't an elite passer by any means. They didn't need him to be and still don't. You pay 100 million for an elite passer, they just need a smart QB who can run and won't turn the ball over.

This is how John Schneider will prove he's actually one of the top GMs in the league. If he can navigate this minefield then he will truly be one of the top GMs.

Rams, Cowboys, Cardinals, Giants & Falcons will all be better than Seattle this year.

I'm with you Boris. Super Bowl losers usually struggle the next year, even if they should have won it (see us after we lost to the Broncs) and Seattle has lost enough talent while only adding a TE that may be on the downward slope... So many guys seeking to be paid, and paid right now, can't help that lockerroom....

Not to mention the 12th man has crabs.

Seahawks now have Wilson, Lynch, Graham, Bennett, Avril, Wright, Chancellor, Thomas, Sherman locked up through 2017. Wagner would be next.

Assuming Russell Wilson got a $31M signing bonus, it will use $6.2M of Seattle's $9.27M of existing salary cap room.

Reason #1,002,876 why you're not a GM.

I do believe Albert Breer is being a little cavalier with "locked up" with regards to Kam and Bennett. 

And he still has one or two more big contracts potentially left. Looks like a solid, all-around deal.

 

Rule #1: Find a good QB.

Rule #1A: If you have one good QB, you keep him.

Like everyone has said, now we'll see how good the Seahawks are when they finally had to pay a "fair" wage to their QB.

The Packers didn't struggle in '98. They would have gone to the divisional round if the refs correctly called Jerry Rice's fumble.

Wagner has an inflated view of his tallant level. The dude is decent, but he is also a serious benefactor from the horses in front of and around him.

Interesting, what is the cap #?  They have 55M, wrapped up into 4 players, seems risky.  

 

Can't believe they'd leave Marshawn and his $12.0M off that list.

 

Toss in the $29.0M they are giving Okung, Avril, Bennet, and Kam (and Kam and Bennett want more)... That's a hair under $100 million going to 9 guys. 

 

Irvin and Wagner are probably realizing this is their final year in Seattle. 

I don't think they included those guys because they aren't the top 2 paid players at the position.
