Flynn has already paid his dues as a backup. He isn't going to accept a backup role this year. At least not to start the season anyway. If Flynn plays himself out of the starting job, that's different. I fully expect Flynn to start from week #1.

Wrong.

Wilson named starter

When I say he's no Drew Brees of course I'm talking about at the NFL level. College is over and anything you did there means nothing after you are drafted. Guys like Brees, Brady, Rodgers and Manning don't enter the league every year. If they did the league would be littered with elite QB's.

His floor is probably career backup and spot starter. His ceiling? I don't know but I really doubt it's Drew Brees. I just hope Pete Carroll and Matt Flynn don't totally **** up our compensatory pick in 2013.

Seattle Seahawks QBs Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson have lost out in the battle for the starting quarterback job to QB Russell Wilson, according to head coach Pete Carroll. '(Flynn's) disappointed,' Carroll said. 'Matt came here to be the starter, and he took it exactly the way I think a competitor would.'

Friggin hilarious. Leave Green Bay for that joke of an organization.

Wilson will probably get hurt by the end of September and Flynn will be starting

Play is the key word. He hasn't even done that yet.

For everyone up in arms about this. It became clear when Miami didn't sign him. If the Hags are a joke, then it is because of the money spent on Flynn. Not on Wilson beating him out fair and square.

Stephen Ross decided to trade his best receiver (Brandon Marshall) in the offseason. Then he threw everything he had at Peyton Manning and left a blank check at the front desk for Jeff Fisher. He landed neither. Prior to the draft he told anyone that would listen he was taking Ryan Tannehill with the 8th pick.

To say anything related to Matt Flynn "became clear when Miami didn't sign him" assumes Joe Philbin had any semblance of say on the matter. He didn't. He still doesn't. It also assumes Stephen Ross is a good evaluator of talent. He isn't. He never will be. I'm positive Joe Philbin wishes he was anywhere other then Miami right now.

Just to be fair, it seems you are making an assumption about my assumption.

Not taking anything away from Wilson because he clearly earned the job, but Flynn should be starting. History has proven time and time again that inserting a rookie QB when you have a questionable supporting cast is a recipe for ruining that rookie QB. Their OLine gave up 50 sacks last season in 16 games, Wisconsin gave up 25 in 14 games, Wilson isn't going to have the same amount of time to do what he does and he's going to get hit, A LOT. They would be better off throwing Flynn out there because he's a more than competent QB and let Wilson develop. In the mean time work on improving that OLine and get some receivers. I don't care how much like Drew Brees some think he is, Drew Brees wouldn't have the success he's had without a great supporting cast, same for Rodgers and Brady and Manning. Wilson has a bad OLine and some ho hum receivers to work with. But I guess he has Beast Mode running the ball so they instantly get a ton of respect points.
I was pulling for both as I’m sure most Pack/Badger fans were, but feel for Flynn. But in all that I’ve seen and read, Wilson far outplayed him so far. His YPA was nearly 3x that of Flynn, who seemed content to dink and dunk.

This being Carroll and Seattle, I’m sure the starter will change at least two more times over the season, but tough to argue against Wilson at this point. Hell if he was an inch taller, he’s a first round pick and no one’s even questioning this move.

I just love that this opens the discussion back up for Rodgers being a system QB for outside idiots. I can only imagine the 3 inch pants tent under Skip Bayless’ desk today.

Every once in a blue moon your comments make sense. Good post.

Touche. Should say that Wilson has clearly played well. He has earned the chance to play maybe even start, but the point was that starting a rookie when you have a crappy team will hinder or kill his development (see David Carr). If you are truly a fan of Russell Wilson then you would want him to sit and develop while Flynn gets thrown to the wolves. Guess I'm the only true Wilson fan here.

I don't think that's necessarily true, but I hear you. There are examples of rookie quarterbacks that started out of the gate and turned out to be pretty good too though. From the little I've seen of Wilson at UW and Seattle, he looks to be pretty poised and in control for a young guy.
