may not have used the correct idiom, but in the context meant someone who is in a situation of losing their current position.

We could see Wilson week 3.

If so, our LB group better be ready to run.

No way Flynn gets cut. He could get traded, but I think it's more likely he stays in Seattle as the backup.
Wilson really isn't that much shorter than Drew Bree's and before anyone says he's no Drew Brees cue up the college footage of both guys. There are a lot of similarities in how they throw the ball. Great poise and confidence and off the charts leadership skills. Wilson also has major league elusiveness and can outrun some NFL defenders.

I like Flynn but I am pulling for Wilson just so he can stick it to the critics about how he can't make it because of his size. We need to remember that there are a lot of taller QBs that never made it and it's because they couldn't compete at this level. Wilson can.
Beer Guy made a good point. In all the years of watching the Big Ten I'd be hard pressed to name a better passer in one year than we saw last year at Wisconsin. Maybe Brees, but that is about it. The remarkable thing is that despite his size he completed like 70+ percent of his passes and rarely had any passes knocked down. Neither did Brees though from what I remember when he was at Purdue. Talent is talent and it will be interesting to see what happens in Seattle

Oh yeah? You really think Flynn will be happy with that?

$10,000,000 guaranteed to hold a clipboard? I can't imagine them paying Flynn a boatload of money to backup their 3rd round pick, Who's making less than a million

There's no way Flynn will be happy with backing up a rookie. If he wanted to stay a backup, why leave Green Bay??

It's pre-season. I don't care what he did against who. It's still pre-season and means nothing in the grand scheme of things. You can't tell me the K.C. defense is that bad nor the Seattle offense that good. I know better. Romeo Crennel is coaching that team now and their defense will be solid barring injuries

They will pay him a boatload of dough to back him up if Wilson beats him out for the job. Which he appears to be doing at the moment.

You are right about it still being preseason but it sure doesn't look good for Flynn.
Of course Flynn won't be happy if Wilson gets the starting job, but so what? Plenty of players are unhappy with their roles. He'll suck it up and be the best backup he can be.

To think the Seahawks would release Flynn is ridiculous. They've already paid him $6 million. He's only owed $2 million for the season. That's a very reasonable salary for a backup QB.

If he's only making that, I bet they could trade him if they really believe as much as it appears in Wilson.

If they traded Flynn, I believe SEA would take a 2M cap hit b/c of the 6M signing bonus.
Obviously Seattle isn't going to release him. That's an asinine statement.

Flynn has already paid his dues as a backup. He isn't going to accept a backup role this year. At least not to start the season anyway. If Flynn plays himself out of the starting job, that's different. I fully expect Flynn to start from week #1.

So if he loses the job he will demand a trade? Not show up? What do you mean by that?

I will also say the guy played 2.25 meaningful games in his pro career (one could argue one meant nothing). He got paycheck from the Hags mainly from coming from the M3 program than those 2.25 games (IMO). He hasn't really proved much of anything (again, IMO).

and yet, a 1000 times more than Wilson has proven and the investment in his success was higher (IMO). Flynn will start week one.

And I think Wilson is the better QB.
Wilson was the leader at NC State for three years, Wisconsin for one, now at Seattle to demonstrate his playmaking ability. Flynn played well for one game last year for the Packers. Seattle and the fans now are "all in" for Wilson and rightly, so. Flynn did not play in the third preseason game - Tarvaris Jackson did. To start the year in focus and remain so for the year, Seattle probably feels they should start Wilson and use Jackson as backup (for continuity and team unity) and trade Flynn now to the AFC for what they can get and wish him well.
If Flynn had not signed a 26MM contract in the offseason would this even be a debate?

For all we know this is Scott Mitchell part II with Flynn. Yes, he was our guy in GB, but it isn't like he has some significant track record of numerous performances to draw from.

Wilson has made the most of his opportunity but I don't think they will go with him due to politics and cash.
If I may be allowed to interject:
Matt Flynn: Nobody owes you a job. If somebody can do it better, you are out.
10 million dollars? What do I care? It's Paul Allen's money.
Russell Wilson: You look great, but don't ever, EVER get figured out. Remember Rick Mirer.
Wilson's senior year at Wisconsin was as good if not better than any of Brees years at Purdue especially when you look at completion percentage and rushing yardage. Brees may have thrown for more yards but he also threw more picks and Purdue didn't have any running game whatsoever.
This thread is legendary. Before they drafted Wilson, some thought we could trade Flynn for a handsome prize because we got that for Matt Hasselbeck and Flynn would be just as good. As soon as he was competing with Wilson the same people started saying Flynn really isn't that good and will only start because of his salary.
Rookie quarterback rankings: Russell Wilson's on top

1. Russell Wilson

Wilson is our top-ranked rookie quarterback for this week because he had the most at stake and didn't flinch. In fact, he stepped up his game. His numbers are outrageous. He completed 13 for 19 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs. He had 58 rushing yards on just two attempts and led the Seahawks to 37 points in less than three quarters of action.

In previous weeks, Wilson's biggest flaw was occasional inaccuracy deep down the field. This time, he connected on throws over 30 yards to Braylon Edwards and Terrell Owens. Whenever the Seahawks needed a play, Wilson delivered.

The kid just has some magic about him. He's going to be a lot of fun to watch for, oh, the next decade or so.
I was skeptical of Wilson, but so far he's proven that he can be a starter in this league. It's only preseason though where guys like Colt McCoy looked like all-pros in the 2011 preseason, so he still has plenty to prove. But so far so good.
