He'll be on IR in 4 weeks. Not wishing anything. Hope I'm wrong but this is Pete C at his finest.
Possibly his last shot as a HC in this league
When they've had solid supporting casts. Cam Newton had one of the top running games in the league at his disposal, two former Pro Bowl TEs, and a veteran WR to work with. Ben Roethlisberger had Jerome Bettis and Heins Ward to lean on as well as a killer defense. Andy Dalton, Matt Ryan, and Joe Flacco had strong running games, good receivers and good defenses helping them. The only times I can think of rookie QBs in bad situations really killing it are Peyton Manning and Sam Bradford.
Not saying Wilson can't or won't succeed, but I think the Seahawks should have done him a favor and let Flynn take the heat early on and stuck him in when their OLine had more experience and cohesion.

His first year he was 3-13

ditto. just for reading defenses and setting protections.

That again goes back to him having a crappy supporting cast though. He had a solid passing year for a rookie.
You also have the same vested interest in shilling for Peyton Manning that everybody else has in shilling for Russell Wilson. (Well, not everybody else; Iowacheese is shilling for Ricky Stanzi.)
Good point Fed. Pointing out Manning's successful career despite being thrown to the wolves immediately on crappy team doesn't help the case for Wilson at all.

It's quite possible that Carroll is wrong.
Good point.
I'm generally in agreement with you on this one but if Seattle does a Roetlisberger/Flacco and runs the ball a ton this year he'll probably be okay. I'm more concerned about Andrew Luck staying upright with the cavalcade of crap surrounding him.quote:Originally posted by Grave Digger:
Touche. Should say that Wilson has clearly played well. He has earned the chance to play maybe even start, but the point was that starting a rookie when you have a crappy team will hinder or kill his development (see David Carr).

grrrr....

Let's hope not but if so, hopefully he rebounds nicely in 2013 as their QB.
Too bad Wilson doesn't have the classic size of that Hall of Fame QB Chuck Long. Oh, wait....

Bielema on Russell Wilson's success in SEA: "He's got that locker room wrapped around his finger right now."
Maybe not the locker room, but certainly the HC.

People like to say Ted Thompson "tries to prove he's smarter than everyone else", but I think Pete Carroll is the worst offender of that. That's why he does things like over-draft players and sign has-been free agents. He's been right a couple times (Brandon Browner & Mike Williams for a short time), but for the most part he's been wrong (Charlie Whitehurst, James Carpenter and Terrell Owens come to mind).
John Schneider is in charge of personnel for the Hags. But I suspect Pete has his opinion appreciated.
These days I'm a Russell Wilson fan first.

No no. You know as well as I do Pete has final say in personnel. You are the 1 that pointed it out to me via a link. So stop trying to play devils advocate on everything you post. You're very bad at it
I know you're the GM, but that's just a title... just wanted to be sure you understood that.

Priceless.
18,754 to go.
You're kidding yourself if you think Schneider has the final say.
I know as well as you do. Both have a say in the draft and personnel decisions. I guess one can make their own choice on who has more authority.
But I will say I'm sure Schneider is charge of scouting since Carroll has that coaching thing to do.

Russell Wilson has the final say.
you can't even trade Joe Thomas for Russell Wilson
What if they throw in Joe Cribbs and Robert Ferguson?

If you had ever met this kid you would understand. Terrific guy. BTW, Nick Toon is even better. Like his Dad, Al, it is almost impossible to believe that he is for real.
Pete Carroll was 5'9 once...he knows how tough it can be for Seneca W
I'm guessing you were once 5'9" as well...when you were 10.
saw this one today
"Russell Wilson — not Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III — was the best third-down passer in college last season with a 75-percent completion rate and a ridiculous 16-1 TD-interception ratio."

But Satori, that can't be possible because Wilson is too short to play the QB position
I hope he serves up a big ****burger sandwich to the critics

This has nothing to do with the topic being discussed... but Iowacheese, where are there kids football leagues that allow the use of NFL uniforms???
That's not a league...that's a picture from Iowacheese's own kids camp he runs.
They're not "official uniforms", but little league teams just about everywhere can have the NFL helmet decals. The middle school team I used to coach had the Eagles decal and we played a team that had the old Patriots decal and a team that had the Packers G. It's pretty common.
