I've had my words about Trae, but he didn't lose that game.  Lots of possessions, hard to put it all on missing a free throw and missing a shot with 5 seconds left (for those "he should have passed it" people, remember the game before how much even one more dribble can be the difference between before and after the shot clock).

I find it hard to blame Josh for the last shot either.  An outside shot by Kentucky was essentially a turnover all game long, hard to believe he needed to be in the face of a guy who hadn't shot well in the second half when he was 7 feet behind the three point line.

Trae can be a player for them next year, just get the boneheaded turnover out of the way right away.  He improved as the season went on (as did Bronson and Kaminski).  If Dekker grows from soph to Jr half as much as Frank did, Nigel can learn defensive rotations better, and the new kid can rebound for 6 minutes a game, I like how things shape up for next year.

Then we follow that up with another unforced error by throwing the ball away.  Those two possessions were when we had a 2 point lead under 2 minutes to play.

Both were equally devastating. Agreed.

ELKA, should be one hell of a team, next year. Definitely top 5 pre-season.

I know it seems like a sour grapes, but you cannot discount the impact the officiating had. Early in it was established the Kentucky was going to be rewarded for driving into the lane and any kind of perceived contact was going to put them on the line. When a crew decides that one particular kind of play is going to be rewarded, it tilts the playing field towards the team that does that thing best. KY was allowed to play physical on D, and while their aggressiveness also resulted in a ton of fouls for Kentucky, the Badgers were put at a disadvantage when the drives redted in so many trips to the line.

The officials call that even (more charges or no-calls on 50/50 calls in the lane) and the result could have been decidedly different. The Badgrs ultimately got 1 o 2 out 6 or 7 of those calls, and that had an impact on the outcome. It made the game an epic, exciting game by keeping Kentucky from losing their grip on the game in the first half, but I think it taints the outcome. People will remember the epic finish, but not how it got there. The Badgers were close to burying KY like they did Baylor, and it wasn't allowed to happen because KY was given the ability to attack and WI not the ability to defend it. A poorer quality of basketball akin to rec league ball was allowed to win...

Agreed.  Good post.

hey...where's "dad-gum-fake southern drawl now that he moved to North Carolina-good 'ol boy" Roy Williams to offer his 1 cent of opinion.  (where was that fake southern accent when he went to Kansas?)

but I digress....

Anyway...this wasn't suppose to be the way basketball is played.  This game sent basketball back many years when it was called rugby.  Allowing a player to tuck the ball like a football and charge into the line is not basketball.

Quick, someone ask Roy about that?

It came down to the last possession just like it did against Arizona.  Unfortunately this time around Harrison nailed the shot and there was your dagger.

Gasser could have played better D for sure and Trae could have made all the throws but sometimes you have to tip your cap to the opponent.   Harrison has been freaking Robert Horry in the tournament.

Oh, I see what you are referring to now Pakrz. It took me awhile to figure out what you were talking about.  You thought I was complaining about the refs.  That was not my intention.  I was trying to get Roy Williams to comment about the style of play that Kentucky was using as their base offense.  Since "dad-gum" Roy always likes to open his mouth about basketball when it doesn't suit his needs, I thought he would do the same about Kentucky's style.  It set basketball back about 25 years or so...more like the NBA style of Detroit vs. Chicago in the playoffs style.

Maybe Mike and Mike In The Morning can get "dad-gum" Roy to comment.

BTW, Pakrz...I don't see how complaining about the refs in this game matters to you anyway, your team wasn't playing.

Also, I really don't think the refs know what a foul is anymore.  I've seen so many games that were officiated differently from one half to the next...or...one game this is called, the next it isn't.  I really believe that they have no clue what or how to call a charge/Block, or "impeding a drive", or even goaltending.

It's hard.  It's really hard to be an official in the NCAA now-a-days.

Actually SDPF, I wasn't referring to your post at all.  I was pointing out to MC that whining about the officials is pointless and crybaby-esque.  There are good calls and bad calls in every basketball game.  The perspective of said calls is greatly dependent on the team the fan is rooting for.  With 3-ish seconds on the clock when Nick Johnson got called for the offensive foul against Wisconsin, how many Arizona fans do you think thought that was a good call?  Is there a Wisconsin fan in the world that thought the official missed the call there?

I don't give a **** what sport you are watching, officials, refs, umps, etc are human beings and games will always have questionable calls.  It's part of the game.  Suck it up and realize it or quit watching sports.

Get over yourself deutchbank. Pointing out that the style of game being called and the lack of 50/50 calls impacted the game and favored KY isn't whining. It kept the game close. I don't know if UW wins or not, but at a point when the Badgers were pulling away KY stayed in it because the calls were against them.

The calls impacted the game. Period.

And after watching tonight's Championship game, you can see how different that game was called versus the WI/KY game. KY wasn't parading to the line tonight, and it was way more physical tonight than Saturday. More contact was allowed, more mad scrambles, and in my view a devolved level of basketball. I don't like watching this kind of ball- 2 teams that plow into each other possession after possession, no game, no passing, nothing truly fundamental about it. What difference really is it between the old WI grind it out possession by possession 3 yards and a cloud of dust versus tonight's parade of out of control drives and missed shots? It all unwatchable basketball to me. Boring one dimensional rec league basketball.

It was a thud of a game after a pretty entertaining Tournament, one of the better Tournaments in a while.

It all unwatchable basketball to me. Boring one dimensional rec league basketball.

This is what I'm talking about.  Your Badgers made a fantastic run in the NCAA tourney... A run that you should be rejoicing and have you amped for next season with a stocked roster coming back.  Instead, the game is unwatchable, one dimensional and rec league.

Stop watching basketball.  You're too stupid to enjoy it.
