Bong almost lettered in golf Junior year.

Damn Mono.

The letter sweater company was kind about the refund.

I didn't hear any mention of Tom nor Bakhtiari all game long. So, I take it they did fine, on the field. Love was upright, most of the time, so that's a good thing.

The only sack was on Love. He and MLF lost their poise at the end of the first half.

He said it was Mono ( thought it would be cool to get the ‘kissing disease), it was really just a sinus infection.

Re-watched the 2022 opening game in Minnesota last year. Wow, what a difference. Leaving aside the change at QB, here are some of the other significant changes:

Offensive Line: Yosh Nijman, Jake Hanson, and Royce Newman all played 61 snaps, and they did not play them well. The latter two were God awful. Now, Bakh & Elton being injured partially explains why scrubs like Hanson and Newman saw the field but the decision not to start Zach Tom was, um, curious.

WR/TE: Sammie Watkins played 41 snaps and Randall Cobb played 37. They both looked (and were) old, slow, and washed. Watkins' presence on the roster can be blamed on the GM and Cobb's on the Assistant GM.

At TE, Marcedes Lewis led with 23 snaps and Tonyan played 22. Lewis was mostly just a 6th lineman and acquitted himself well. However, Tonyan looked like a player coming off of an ACL who lost a step or 2 he could not afford to lose and who would be a backup a year later on a pathetic Bears' team.

Yesterday, Musgrave looked, at worst, to be a field stretcher and Reed to be the quick, athletic slot WR the Pack has been looking for since forever.

Punt/Kick Returner: It is still hard to believe how bad Amari Rodgers was as a returner. For those who blocked the memory, here is a reminder of his pathetic game 1 performance with an article talking about how he may have played himself out of a roster spot after his game 1 disaster. https://atozsports.com/green-b...ame-against-vikings/

Yesterday, Keisean Nixon was pissed that he missed a seam and he always looks like he might break one. Meanwhile, Jayden Reed appears to be a natural punt returner and had a sneaky, big return.

Defense: Whatever Jaire Alexander is being paid, he deserves a raise. Not for his play on the field, but for exposing Joe Barry and the scheme he employed for much of last season. In the first half of last season's opener, the Pack played a passive zone that not only allowed the incomparable Justin Jefferson to roam freely but the washed Adam Thielen to do as he pleased. Yuck. Now, in the second half of that game, the D played more aggressively and, shockingly, was much better.

Yesterday? Jaire shadowed and shut down DJ Moore. The Dbacks attacked the WR screens. The DLine kept pressuring throughout the game. The players on the field were not that different from 2022 to 2023 (though Wyatt being allowed to see the field while permitting Lowry to walk and work his magic in Minnesota cannot be discounted), but the approach to playing D certainly was different. It looked like an entirely different approach to playing D and the better play can't all be attributed to the fact they were facing a bad QB.

The departures of Hanson, Watkins, Cobb, Amari Rodgers, Tonyan, and Lowry (all of whom played significant roles in game 1 of 2022) were additions by subtraction. The additions to the lineup of Tom, Musgrave, Reed, Nixon, and Wyatt are all (or appear to be) additions by addition. Coupled with an apparent newfound aggressive approach to playing D and there is much to be excited about this season -- even aside from #10's very promising debut.

I loved how aggressive they were on these plays.  Didn't wait back and play patty cake with the blocking WR - attacked and beat the blocks on most of these plays.

Wow.   The best part for me was how Love always responded when momentum started to shift away from them.   3rd down after 3rd down he would find the open guy and make the throw.    Credit to him and credit to MLF scheme.

I got 2 negatives.   Dillon and Ford.

Dillon just doesn’t have the juice he did his rookie year.   I’d prefer those snaps go to Wilson.   Ford doesn’t look like he belongs in the NFL.

The Bears traded the #1 overall pick for DJ Moore. (And some draft capital)

Now you know why DJ Moore shoved Jaire down and got a flag/penalty.

Jaire is the Justin Jefferson eraser. I'm sure he was yawning 🥱 having to play against DJ Moore

Justin Fields apologizes,  “It definitely hurts, not only because it’s the first game of the season and it’s a loss, but it’s a loss to them,” Fields said, per the Chicago Tribune. “Just want to say sorry to teammates and all the fans that were rooting for us. We’ll bounce back and be good.”

How many times as he said the same words after a loss?

@mattschneidman: Tyreek Hill has the two fastest top speeds in Week 1 so far, per Next Gen Stats, hitting 21.66 MPH and 21.52 MPH on separate TDs.

The next fastest top speed in the NFL?

Old man Aaron Jones, who hit 21.48 MPH on his choice route TD on fourth and 3 yesterday.

Wait, who's that in the corner behind MiLF?

He also met and waited for all the players after the game in the tunnel to congratulate them and hand out hugs. He's got to be pleased with this team so far and that grin is a giant s***-eating grin aimed at AR.

I thought both OL and DL played really well.  They set the physical tone in the trenches and the Bears were stressed most of the day.

Doubs and Jones looked great and Jordan Love played efficient and clean football.

The safety play wasn’t great for most of the game and not sure how you fix it but 20 and 26 have to play better.

One negative of yesterday's game is that they played so well it sets up what may be unrealistic expectations by us fans. This is still a super-young team with a QB who's started only two games, and they will have growing pains.

One positive: Geez this is going to be a fun, interesting year as we watch a TEAM again!

Joe Barry, baby 👏

@DaireCarragher:  Here’s a new wrinkle of the Packers defense:

Green Bay called 7 pass rushing stunts per game last season.

They just used 28 stunts against the Bears yesterday, most in the NFL by a wide margin.

Positives

Lots have already been mentioned, but I do want to say if you look at Love's performance with the knowledge that he didn't have Watson, later didn't have Jones, first full start as the man, biggest division rival on the road in front of a hostile crowd, he had a monster game.  Even took his own fumble off the ground and should have had another interception when he found Musgrave.  And no turnovers.  It's a hell of a start, really happy for him.

OL gave Love all day and opened some nice holes.  Other WR's and the TE's got open.  The D played with  their hair on fire and  hot piss.  Maybe the piss was a little too hot at times, but it was nice to see some urgency.

Special teams were also very good and the young guys we have on the team look extremely talented and motivated.  This is a young team that has the look of a team that will grow together and win a SB.

Negatives

MLF and his usual clock unawareness.  You'd think this many years into coaching, he'd have a handle on this by now, but maybe he just likes burning time outs.  And then playing  Jones in the  first  series and then not until the 3rd quarter?  WTF's up with that?  Unless he  knew Jones was hurt and nobody else did, that was just stupid.

Dillon needs to ride the bench and Wilson needs to be activated.  I don't know what changed from his rookie year, but with thighs like he has, you should be able to run through brick walls.  Not only is he showing a lack of vision, anyone can tackle him with one hit.  Savage was just OK, and Ford was atrocious.  Safety continues to disappoint.

Overall, a very good team effort, we beat the Bores, and TBSS!

Maybe the booth is helping Barry?

If the Bears want to make the Fields thing work, they need way more talent on offense.  DJ Moore is good but that's all they have.  You put Jalen Hurts on the Bears and hard to believe he'd do much more than Fields.  But this has been the Bears MO for decades - they just lack explosive talent on offense.  Best offensive player in the last 25 years has been Matt Forte and he's not exactly a player the defense schemed around.

Getting Caleb Williams will only end poorly unless they get real offensive talent.
