I hate the Vikings as much as anyone but I give them props for the miracle win that will live in their playoff history, even though I canβt remember another positive playoff game as dramatic as that. Viking fans help me out.
Kind of surprised that Thompson didn't draft Williams as he looks like the typical Packer defensive back. Clinton-Dix must have had at least a half-dozen whiffs just like that this season.

Hasnβt been one.
NO now 1-7 all-time in road playoff games.
What is packer record in road playoff games?

Ramifications of yesterday:
βif Vikes lose next week, and I believe they will in a close one, they will cling to yesterdayβs game for years the way Packer fans cling to the Ice Bowl.
βno way Keenum doesnβt get resigned I think five years $20 million a year. Teddy and Bradford gone.
I'm sure the ending will go down in Viking lore as a great play by both Keenum and Diggs. Whiff was bad when I saw it live; it's even worse now that I've seen it from several angles.

But Dix has better form on his missed tackles.

They beat the Giants on the road 23-22 20 years ago after trailing 19-3 in the second half. That's their only other postseason moment comparable to this. They were blown out by the 49ers in the next game. I hope they have a similar follow up performance after this one.
I don't think those teams were built on D like this one is unless you go way back to the 70's when it was a different game altogether. NE is really the only offensive minded team left (JAX more likely a fluke yesterday) and even they play solid D. Interesting in an era of points, yards and QB's.

So the Vikings are going to forget the very lesson that got them here and not have a viable backup QB?
Starting QB, backup QB, and OC all could be different this fall in MIN.
Jax is 6th in total O for the year, that's no fluke. The 4 teams left are all in the top 11. 3 of the teams left are in the top 4 on D. NE way down at 29.

No, they'll find another guy off the trash heap who will come in and play them to the SB. They've had quite a horseshoe enema at QB, even considering Teddy's knee implosion. Will Tom Savage or Matt Moore be available?
Shurmer will get the AZ job and take either Keenum or Bradford with him. Training camp will either be a battle between Teddy B and Bradford or the job will be Kennums'.
My belief is after yesterday no way will they let Keenum leave. Theyβll make him an offer he canβt refuse. Donβt know if he owns any horses.
I think AZ is done with the lastlegQB strategy and will draft one. Maybe they get Bradford as a bridge to a rookie. As long as their OL keeps producing and considering their running game is already good, they'll be getting Dalvin Cook back so they don't need an elite QB. Keenum will work Justin fine in that situation unless he runs out of pixie dust in the offseason.
Regression to the Mean is the concern with Keenum, as it is with basically all veteran players who have an aberration season.
Their best hope is the other universal trend of Progression from Jeff Fischer.
I would think that Keenum would choose to follow Schumer. He's excelled in his offense & would be uncertain if he would do the same with new OC. In addition, Zimmer told announcers that he was ready to put Bradford in the game yesterday if they had fallen behind by double digits. Seems like the safer bet for career stability would be to follow Schurmer?

Scott Mitchell being an excellent example.
Keenum only leaves if the Vikings want him to, regardless of if Shurmur leaves or not. Theyβll slap the tag on him if they have to.
Teddyβs not going to get much interest considering it will be two years without a start. The Vikings love the kid and will give him a little pay bump to come in and win the job in camp or be #2.
They kept Kyle Sloter on the 53 man roster for yesterdayβs game and made Teddy inactive. He would have been sniped immediately. Ask anybody from Denver, he was the best QB they had in camp (not saying much?) and both fans and players are shocked he was allowed to sign elsewhere.
I think Sam will retire. He was talking about it while dealing with this last knee injury.

Bradford made 118 million in his career. I think he can walk away and hopefully be able to walk without artificial knees for at least another 15-20 years.
He's a decent QB (101 TDs, 57 Interceptions). If he wants to, he'd make someone a pretty good backup. I'd take him as the backup in Green Bay in a heartbeat for 5-6 million next year.

I think he might be a little better than Scott Mitchell. I'm thinking Jake Delhomme. I don't think Keenum will ever be terrible again, but I doubt anyone is looking at him as a top 10 QB.

I think at least Dix touches the guy he's trying to tackle. You'd have to almost try to miss on that play. If he grabs his leg with his hand the game is over.
Projected Franchise Tag $$ for a QB
$23,555,000
Keenum is a nice story, but does anyone truly think he is worth that? Is he even worth $10mm / yr? That would be a huge raise for him.
$23M is okay for a one year βprove itβ deal. Youβre not going to sign him to an extended contract at that number.
And I thought the tag meant he proved it this year?
Hungry5 posted:And I thought the tag meant he proved it this year?
Nope. The tag is an out for the team if this year is an aberration. $23M to find out. If he repeats next year, give him an extension. If he regresses, it was a one year, $23M try out. Not really a big deal in the ever increasing salary cap.
Dumb teams like the Bears throw big contracts at unproven players like Glennon......
The Vikings may offer Case a contract but, it wonβt be for $23M a year. Iβd be okay with 5 years @ $15M-$16M with $35Mish guaranteed.
So would I if they gave that.π
Think the metrics change if the Vikes win the Superb Owl? Those numbers you post would be what Iβd give him if he wins a title.
Then again, look what Wash paid Cousins. Maybe he comes to Minny.
Donβt want Cousins anywhere near this team.
I would think coaches would teach defensive backs on plays like yesterdays last play to let the receiver go up and catch the ball close to the sidelines and dont let them hit the ground. Carry them out of bounds. There would be no force out and the pass would be incomplete. As close the WR was to the sideline yesterday it would have been the best play. Instead the DBs ala sharper and dix all try to be a hero while letting the pass get complete.

Jaymo.
When you're not being an insufferable douche-bag---you seem to have a bit of football knowledge.
See? I said something nice.
A broken clock is right twice a day!
Yesterday Keenum reminded me of Trace McSorley just chucking up passes in tthe B1G Championship Game in 2016. Just chuck it up and hope one of his guys comes down with it. Worked for McSorley and it worked for Keenum. How come it didn't ever work for Hundley?
He was too busy running backwards?

If the boundary could have been expanded 15 yards on the sidelines, Hundley would have been all pro. Roll Right, chuck it up out of bounds. It is his bread and butter play.

To me, heβs basically a lateral move to Keenum. And heβs got Dan Snyderβs stink in him. If the Vikings are bringing in a FA, it needs to be a bigger step up than that, not that I think thereβs anybody out there.
