Terrible night. I love Middleton but he was terrible tonight. Connaughton was just as bad.

Biggest surprise was giving up 19 boards to an undersized Capela.  Give the Hawks credit, they played harder and smarter all night and it paid off.

Middleton 6/23 and the Bucks 8/36 from three. That’s the difference in the game.

You would think that Middleton, Connaughton, and Lopez couldn't play much worse and the Hawks couldn't play much better. However, I'm not sure now.

Why didn't we see more Portis?

Get ready for the criticism now

I’m so sick of this shit with this team.  Man up and put these fuckers to sleep but oh no, Bud proves once again he’s a dipshit not pulling Lopez and half our players didn’t bother to show up.

Why give the Hawks any hope?   I mean, nothing is easy with this team.

Well Trae Young has been the story of the playoffs.  I just don't see how it took Bud 3 quarters of the game to finally give up on Lopez and the drop coverage against him.

Middleton shit the bed like he always does after ANY layoff.  Very disappointing outside of Holiday getting his act together.

Honestly given how hard they played basically less than 72 hours ago I’m not surprised they came out a little flat.

Bucks did not play well and Young had almost 50 and it was a one possession game.

It’s officially a series now.  Why I have no goddamn idea.   80% of this is on our idiot coach.   Why he stuck with Lopez until almost the 4Q is all on him.

The Bucks play line this on extended rest. They have all season long.

Bucks were really moving the ball first half- not so much second half. Lopez out there is a total liability… again. Just the same shot we’ve seen all year. They let Young get comfortable and then he’s pulling all the right strings. Wait until he starts getting bullshit calls…

It's a tough loss, but they won't get a better game out of Young and it went to the wire. The 11 assists were just as big as the 48 pts. Bucks got hammered on the boards. That and Middleton's night doomed them. ATL seems to be able to want it more against superior teams. Just can't let them hang around.

The Bucks should still win 4 out of 6 against this Hawks team 90 out of 100 times. Middleton and Connaughton can't play worse and Young isn't going to be any better, and as Artis says it was still a one-possession game.

Take care of business on Friday night and get the ship righted.

Khris Middleton, in shooting 6 for 23 from the floor, matched his performance from game 1 of the Brooklyn series. So, in game 1 of the last two playoff series, Middleton has shot 12 for 46 from the floor. That's 26.1%

In the last 8 playoff games, Khris Middleton has shot:

FG 66 for 170 (38.8%)
3PT 19 for 61 (31.1%)

If you take out game 6 of the Brooklyn series, where he was 11 of 16 from the floor, and 5 for 8 from three, it's even worse:

FG 55 for 154 (35.7%)

3PT 14 for 53 (26.4%)

To make matters worse, his defense was nonexistent.

In Middleton's first 23 playoff games, including the four game sweep of the Pistons in the first round of 2019, he was lights out from downtown:

3PT 54 for 118 (45.8%), while shooting 47% overall from the floor.

Since the first round of the 2019 playoffs:

Boston 2019
FG 30 for 76 (39.5%)
3PT 17 for 36 (47.2%)

Toronto 2019
FG 30 for 73 (41.1%)
3PT 12 for 32 (37.5%)

Orlando 2020
FG 26 for 72 (36.1%)
3PT 12 for 32 (37.5%)

Miami 2020
FG 45 for 108 (41.7%)
3PT 11 for 33 (33.3%)

Miami 2021
FG 29 for 59 (49.2%)
3PT 11 for 27 (40.7%)

Brooklyn 2021
FG 60 for 147 (40.8%)
3PT 19 for 52 (36.5%)

Atlanta 2021
FG 6 for 23 (26.1%)
3PT 0 for 9 (0%)

He had a good shooting percentage from 3PT against Boston in 2019, and a good overall shooting percentage against Miami in the first round this year.

Otherwise, Khris Middleton has vastly underperformed.

Since the first round of the 2019 playoffs against Boston (five series and the start of a sixth), here's what Khris Middleton has shot:

FG 196 for 482 (40.1%)
3PT 65 for 185 (35.1%)

Now, THIS is telling. Here's how Khris has shot in the first game of every series, dating back to 2019:

2019 Detroit WIN
FG 5 for 13 (38.5%)
3PT 4 for 7 (46.7%)

2019 Boston LOSS
FG 5 for 12 (41.7%)
3PT 3 for 4 (75%)

2019 Toronto WIN
FG 4 for 12 (33.3%)
3PT 1 for 6 (16.7%)

2020 Orlando LOSS
FG 4 for 12 (33.3%)
3PT 2 for 6 (33.3%)

2020 Miami LOSS
FG 12 for 24 (50%)
3PT 4 for 8 (50%)

2021 Miami WIN
FG 10 for 22 (45.5%)
3PT 3 for 9 (33.3%)

2021 Brooklyn LOSS
FG 6 for 23 (26.1%)
3PT 0 for 5 (0%)

2021 Atlanta LOSS
FG 6 for 23 (26.1%)
3PT 0 for 9 (0%)

Last 8 game 1s
FG 52 for 141 (36.9%)
3PT 17 for 54 (31.5%)

And before you think his shooting can't get any more putrid, if you take Miami out of the equation...

Khris Middleton's shooting line in our last 6 game 1s against any team other than Miami:
FG 30 for 95 (31.6%)
3PT 10 for 37 (27.0%)

Middleton's awful shooting, especially from behind the arc, has put the Bucks in a terrible position to start their playoff series, time and time again. We won the first game of the Toronto series in spite of Middleton's ice cold performance. Since then, we have lost 4 of our last 5 series opening games.

When Middleton goes 4 from 12 from the floor, it's a small sample size. A few shots rimming in and out can take him from shooting 50% to 33% in a jiffy. At least those can be rationalized somewhat. But when he's going 6 for 23 from the floor in each of our last two openers, there's no excuse. The Coach needs to step in. Bud clearly isn't.

Bobby Portis played 3 minutes in the second half. Is he really that much more of a liability than Middleton against a team that has no post threat?

THIS! He was great to start the game. Ride the hot horse Bud!

The part that frustrated me the most is early in the 3Q Trae Young picked up his 3rd foul.  The Hawks were over the limit with like 8 minutes left in the quarter.

Instead of jacking up 3s they should have taken it right to Atlanta to force the issue.

When I looked at the stat sheet I was shocked that the Bucks took nearly 40 3pt attempts.  When you have a distinct size and physical advantage that cannot happen.

Holiday had a great game offensively but his defense left a lot to be desired.

I also don’t know that I want him taking a dozen 3s in a game.  Take it to the hoop and make Atlanta work defensively.

The issue wasn’t Young.  The issue was allowing Collins and Capela to get a bunch of rebounds and easily put backs or dunks and also not make them work hard on the defensive end.

Portis looked good early on but Bud does what he does.   The drop defense against a player like Young is idiotic.

Thibs, Doc and now Bud have been unable to limit Young.  CC is the league leading rebounder, that’s what he does, rebound.

Middleton, Tucker and Pat C need to step it up and Holiday as mentioned above has to provide some better resistance on D.  Bud needs to get Bobby P more minutes and Lopez less.  If Lopez is not hitting 3’s he is useless.

To limit the rebounding you make CC have to leave the paint to cover a guy like Portis out on the perimeter.   Right now, Capela and Collins are basically just camping out in the lane.

For Young, I think you have to get physical and rough him up and make him uncomfortable.  More importantly, you have to make him work defensively.   Make him try to fight through screens and if you are Holiday break him down off the dribble and force him to cover the full length of the court.  Basically do what Tucker did to Durant.   Playing off him doesn’t work.

Please educate me on whether Bud had a chance if he challenged that Bogus foul call when Giannis hand grazed Young's face four seconds after he released the ball. Did that have a chance to be overturned?

Well, they are a really dumb team.

This team doesn’t play smart.

It really doesn’t matter how great the troops are if the general leading them is an idiot.

When Charles Barkley calls you a dumb team, that's telling.
