Unless NW gifts us another turnover, this is over.
An interesting question now is that if Coan is healthy enough to play next week, do you go to him? I'd say unquestionably Yes. Mertz has been Hornibrook-esque in this game.

That's why you kick that FG earlier. Chryst deserves a lot of criticism for where they are right now, too.
Last 9 drives- 3 turnovers, 5 punts, turnover on downs.
Just an average team. It happens.
The ref at the top of the screen wanted to mark Watson down early

Yes. Especially missing almost all their WRs.
Mertz has not looked good at all, though.
Pick 6 coming.

No Pick 6, but his third interception.
Well, that oughta do it...
Mike Mccarthy offense. Yikes.
GeeZ Mertz, ffs
Well.
This entire game is a Chryst punt inside the 40
He has no one to throw to
As pathetic as this has been, if Chryst kicks a 38 yard FG, this is a one score game.
Oh well, it's not like the Badgers deserve to win this game at all.
Paul Chryst has already given up.
Punting on 4th and 4 down 10?
You go for it instead of kicking a FG earlier and don't go for it there?
I get Mertz is a freshman, but how did he regress so much from last week?

That is just embarrassingly cowardly.

I know the starters are out, but the Wisconsin WR group is, um, a bit challenged from a talent standpoint.
Since the first touchdown by the Badgers, the offense looks like their just stuck in the mud.
4th qtr offense, 10 plays 9 yards
4 minutes for a miracle

The body language from the players suggests they think they have no chance.
16 possessions
1 TD, 2 drives ended on downs, 4 turnovers, 7 punts.

The coaches calling a play action pass that fooled no one on 1st and 10 from the NU 39 and a run on 3rd and 3 from the NU 34 with 3 MIns left in the game where the Badgers are down 10 suggests that UW has no idea of how to come back late in a game.
... As do the past several seasons.
So, so much to like about the program under Chryst but watching the passing "attack" with the team playing from behind is certainly not one of them.
Another season killing loss to a suck ass team. Nice job Badgers. Yes the refs were fucking atrocious but goddamn this Northwestern team will get beat by 50 against Ohio State.
You would think after all these years of disappointments in Evanston they would wake the fuck up. Guess not. Enjoy the Outback Bowl.
Sinply embarrassing but predictable. Yes they were missing like half their offense but JFC they were absolute shit today including the so called star Mertz. And Chryst called the game like he was trying not to lose. Play to win the game and not that conservative shit because that donβt mean shit. Once again eat the shit sandwich and wonder βwhat ifβ for like the 500th time this decade.
They were undermanned... with a Freshman QB. Is what it is... they werenβt ready or good enough.
You want to be in the big leagues? Recruit some goddamn WRs not named Jack Dunn and Adam Krumholz.

And he missed them
Screw them Illinois purple pukes
3 hours ago we were the only school in the nation ranked in the top ten in both college hoops and college football.
Better play better next week there is an Axe on the line.
Anyone that thinks Coan would have helped in this game needs to share what they are smoking or what the referees were smoking.
Coan wouldnβt have done shit with this JV receiving corps get real
Just a bad combination of several factors:
1. Young QB facing a very good defense on the road, on a slow track and missing two major weapons.
2. Just horrendous officiating. I feel Bucky would have had a halftime lead if the officials would have been at least competent. Also, NW had only one penalty and it appeared to me they held all day with not one call.
Disappointing because the schedule lined up well to head into the B10 Championship undefeated and a chance to get into the playoff.
Despite the horrible officiating and lack of weapons the Badgers had their chances. They just could not make the key catch or conversion to keep drives going and Mertz killed a couple of chances himself with poor throws or bad decisions.
Northwestern is a decent team but Iβll bet if these teams played on a neutral site the Badgers win 9 out of 10 times. For some reason they really struggle to play well there. Yes the field is absolute shit and itβs like a D3 stadium with no atmosphere whatsoever but itβs still throwing and catching and tackling. Itβs football. The defense played well enough but you cannot turn the ball over like crazy and rack up penalties like they did and expect to win.
The sad thing is the Badgers actually had a decent path ahead of them in terms of the CFP and this Ohio State team is nowhere near as strong defensively as they have been in recent history. In other words, it was there for the taking until it wasnβt. Shoulda coulda woulda - the story of the 2020 Badgers.
...and 2012....and 2013....and 2014....and 2015...and 2016....and 2017....and 2018....and 2019...
The lack of a non-conference schedule hurt a lot of teams, but especially a team like the Badgers.
They have a potential NFL caliber QB in Mertz (at least a backup) for the first time in a while, but he needed those extra games to get more reps. N. Watson is not the feature back, Berger is going to be, but Berger needs more reps to see if he can develop more vision for cutbacks and setting guys up for moves. There were multiple runs yesterday that J. Taylor, Clement, M. Ball, Gordon, or James White break for really long gains by making one guy miss. Watson doesn't seem to have that ability at all, but Berger might. He just needed the reps against the App. State type teams to open the year.
Yesterday's game does mean the young TE and WR need to mature fast, cause after Dike, the cupboard looks light.
Typical Badger though, can't ever bring the great WR, TE, RB and QB to the table at the same time.
Berger was a highly regarded prospect for a reason. With more experience I think he could become very good. He has a burst and twitch thatβs undeniable.
Dike looks pretty good as well. Quick and explosive.
The defense is loaded. This could be the most talented group theyβve had.
The real βwhat ifβ to me is if JT had stuck around. No way they lose that game yesterday.

2011.
Russell Wilson, Montee Ball, Al Toon, Abbrederis along with 4 very good future NFL lineman (Zeitler, Frederick, Konz, Ricky Wagner). The TE (Byrne) had a cup of coffee in the NFL and the FB (Ewing) did as well.
That should have been a team in the National Championship game. Got beat by two Hail Mary's during the regular season.
