Every receiver wants the ball. I'd be a little concerned if Finley (or anyone else) said that it was totally fine if they didn't throw the ball their way.

A lot of these guys also like to talk. It's called confidence. Some people may say it's arrogance. Tomato vs tomatoe.

The real problem with Finley is that he can't hang onto the damn ball. Period. He's actually regressed in terms of his performance. And this is a guy we want to invest a ton of money because he's blessed with all this talent?

Give me the guy that has half the talent but is consistent with their effort and results every day of the week because you know what you've got. Right now, Finley is like the vintage Italian sports car. It looks great in the garage, but it's tempermental to drive and you have to be a mechanic to own one because it never runs properly.

Thanks but no thanks to extending Finley at this point.
I figured Finley would be gone at the end of the season because he was going to want to be the highest paid TE in the league and TT doesn't over pay for players.

I don't think there are going to be many (if any) teams that will be willing to pay him top dollar now...not after the season he's had.

Hopefully TT can work something out to keep Finley here. He could franchise him, but I can see Finley becoming a real problem if that happens.

I would be willing to make a bet.... If he allows Finley to test the market.. Choice of avatar for the entire offseason?
Finely isnt going anywhere. I think he signs the Franchise tag and tries again for a YOTTO. I have trouble believing he will accept a JJ type contract.

from MMs PC

MM: Finley is talented and young. He needs offseason program. He will continue to grow and be outstanding player for us.

That doesn't make him a bad teammate.

Stealing this quote from packerboi...

"Has a lot of growth in front of him." Needs to establish better relationship with "the guy who's throwing to you" . "

You don't hear MM saying things like that very often, well, that is unless they have to do with #88.. So,, sounds to me like his personality isnt fitting/meshing with the leader of the team.. yeah?
you said "not a fit for this team or coach"

when that didn't work, you changed to "personality isn't meshing with the leader of the team."

It all fits what you want to believe, Finley is a leader of Al Qaeda and eats kittens.

You skipped (cause it didn't fit) coach saying he thought he was a pro-bowl TE, or that he will be a great player for us, tremendous work ethic, practices hard, and that he is still young. All sounds like someone that could fit with the team and coach.

I don't like to hear he needs to get on the same page with his QB as much as the next guy, I don't like to hear that he has growing up to do yet. I do like to hear that our coach thinks a lot of him and has high expectations. It's almost like this guy could work out as a Packer.
I think Finley has to be re-signed, whether a 3-year deal or franchise tag. He's got room to grow in his game and is young. There's lots to improve on, and even if he improves on only one or two things, he will be very productive. Game-changer tight-ends don't grow on trees - you resign him thinking he will be even better. A three year deal allows him to be a FA again at 27 - that's pretty attractive.
MM made it clear at his presser yesterday that he wants Finley back. I'm sure all parties would prefer to avoid the tag if possible and just hope his financial expectations are in line with his performance.
I think Finley is back one way or another based on MM's comments. This year didn't go like TT, MM or Finley expected and no one is really happy about it. He's extremely young, so I wouldn't be surprised if he signed a 2 year deal for $8m. Remember, Finley hasn't made much money thus far in his career being a third round pick. Making around $8m for a two year audition for his next big contract isn't a bad deal for both sides. Gives Finely a chance to show he's on the level of Graham, Gronk, Hernandez, etc. and it gives TT and MM more time to evaluate Finley.

I see Wells signing a contract, so no need for a tag. He seems like Nelson, a guy who isn't all about money. He'll get a fair deal and stay in GB. I'm still holding out hope the Packers can pull a Cassell and get something for Flynn. With so many desperate teams now, I'd be shocked if a deal isn't made. It'll take a lot of coordination, but TT is a deal-maker. He'll get something done.

Of course he wants him back... I'm sure he wants Jim Brown in his prime too.. But thats not his choice.. TT, and TT alone, makes that call based on price, expected future performance and character. I'm sure he will take into consideration coaches evaluations and wish list, but he constructs the team.

What were MM's comments like at the end of last year when Jenkins didn't get the "core player" treatment and get signed early? I know Jenkins was saying he didnt think he would get an offer from GB... but I dont recall MM comments.

Serious question... I cant imagine them being much different, save for the he needs to get along with his QB comment.

That interesting... As time goes by I am getting less confident this can get done.. There are 3 QB's coming out that will be considered potential starters..

Luck
RG3
Landry Jones

Now you also have to consider that Manning might get traded so that adds a 4th QB to the pool. So right now, it looks like Flynn would be the 4th most attractive option, maybe 3 at best if you put him above Jones. Thats not the kind of situation where you would be willing to give up picks for him..

The way I see it, there are 4 QB's and 4 teams that might be willing to pay.. Just take Luck and the Colts out of it.. Any of those 4 could easily just say we will wait for a shot at Barkley next year too, I wouldnt expect that out of the Skins I guess.

RG3
Jones
Manning
Flynn

Browns
Skins
Dolphins
Hawks.

Ahh yes.. I guess the Donkeys are a wild card.
I wouldn't rule out the Jaguars at this point. I know they just drafted Gabbert and may not be ready to give up on him, but with a new coach coming in and Gabbert displaying a transcendent level of suck, I don't think it's impossible that they'd look to upgrade.

I think he is a top 5 talent who had a down year coming off a injury but he comes with baggage.

Another Brainded fallicy. When making up the 53 man roster, which is never final the whole staff has input. When it comes down to numbers 50-53 you can bet TT will go with guys MM wants, not forcing guys on MM. Both TT and MM have stated this many times.
I can't imagine a scenario where the Packers let Finley walk away.

Even with all the drops and the YOTTO stuff, the guy is a huge cog in the offense. The attention he draws from opposing defenses helps make other WRs better. It's very telling that opposing defenses often built their gameplans around containing him.

Sure, it would be great if he became more humble and had a catch rate like he did in prior years. But even if he gives the exact same performance as he did last year, he'd easily be worth the $5.5 MM cost associated with the tag.

He's not going anywhere -- the only question is if they'll need the tag to sign him or if they can get a deal done and use that tag on another player like Wells or Flynn.

I mean heck, we have 5 TEs, you think that is Thompson's idea? Nope it's the former TE that's running the offense. If McCarthy really wants Finley back and the numbers work out (meaning Finley's camp is reasonable) then he will be back.

I see your reading comprehension skills are failing you with age... What did you say differently than I did here, besides picking 50-53 and that doesn't pertain to Mouth?
