I would have preferred Davis to AJHawkSucks, he was much more dynamic.
That was almost 10 years ago.
At this point, he may be broken down too much.

I'm not sure we want VD. If Janis can't get the playbook right after 2 years, how useful is VD going to be this season? Can he even block?
Trust me, VD is never useful.
The 1 thing you guys / gals might not be thinking about is Vernon Davis ability to block.
He is OUTSTANDING! at blocking.
I still don't think it will happen.
Hard to block, run, catch from the tub.
At least it's interesting enough to prompt some thought, and wasn't written as a "Packers looking to acquire..." story.
I have no idea what implications this would have on the salary cap; i.e., if we have to assume the remainder of his contract, can we get him at/near minimum salary, or whatever the case may be. I'm sure the Packers have the room to do a deal, but I couldn't see much more than $1M for the remainder of this season.
Like many others, I don't want him in Green Bay either. But if TT/MM thought he could be just what the doctor ordered, I would accept it. Very much like when Wolf brought Rison to Green Bay, IMHO.
From a physical/curent athletic/health point of view - I am not sure I want him.
From a I don't want to be in GB point of view - I don't want him.
From a TT/MM wanting him point of view - I'd say ok. They know more than I do.
The score 2-1 against. There you have it.
I prefer real ones. Cock tease.
Teh interwebs. Ultimate cock block.

I think the downside issues outweigh any benefit Davis mightbring. Sure, the cap cost might be workable, but his lack of team has been exposed in the past. Might he end up a distraction in the locker room rather than an asset? He's 31, constantly nicked up and has shown an ability to disappear on the field as much as make big plays.
This would smack as a move a desperate team would make. The offense has struggled vs. very good defenses, with key players out. They will iron these issues out on their own. Quarless will be back, Adams hopefully as well. I'd rather take my chances given the fact that we've seen MM and AR get things cranked up after slower starts previously.
Would it be great to have the dynamic weapon that Davis has shown himself to be in the past? Yeah, but I believe the braintrust of this organization can figure things out sans such a potential distraction coming aboard.
Vernon's a turd, end of story
Maybe the Packers can recruit Antonio Gates while he's in town this weekend

"Is this as close as Antonio Gates, legendary tight end still playing, will get to a Lombardi? Catching passes in Green Bay this Sunday? Trodding where Vince strode?"
Rodgers was an advocate for getting Beast Mode years ago when the RB position was in worse shape than the TE position is now. It will never happen even if it is a good idea.
Some fans may have thought the RB position was in bad shape, but the emergence of James Starks proved otherwise. A move that would be completely out of character for TT and won't be happening.
Starks didn't get his first carry until December. The team languished with Kuhn masquerading as a RB for a major chunk of the season. Yes, it all worked out in the end but that position was woefully undermanned the majority of the season.
The question is can he improve the club and what is the cost? I would give up a fourth or fifth for him and roll the dice. So called 'turds' have a tendency to become team guys when a ring becomes a possibility.
Of course you would give up a mid round pick for old TE. Just like you would give up a pick for pissant RB who bellyaches about contracts. They'll never win a Superbowl without bitchmode.
and that's why TT runs the GBP. a 4th or 5th?
it's not just improve the club and cost - it's chemistry too and he's acid, and not the good kind.

Apparently, you forgot about the immortal Brandon Jackson.
Point proven. Thank you.
That Bjack prevented the team from winning the Super Bowl? Why, yes he did. The team never did recover from his presence on the team.
He is the reason we have been starting DickRod.
He sure as hell didn't help them. The guy was slower than me, had no vision and about as much wiggle as a jello shot in Siberia.
Loaf o' bread.
Brandon Jackson scored the winning TD against Philly in the 2010 Wild Card game. He tore Urlachers groin in two on a key 2nd and 13 catch and scamper to move the chains on a drive that resulted in a TD to give GB a 14-0 lead in Chicago.
Just another forgettable guy in a stable full of them in 2010 that did all kinds of key little **** perfectly at key times that resulted in Championship number 13.
Brandon was alright in my book.
Like Pat "jumpabug" Lee? The only thing of note he ever did was show up in the Super Bowl.
There are more than enough David Tyree's in sports.
In the least surprising move ever, #Packers have added TE Mitchell Henry to their practice squad. They released TE Tom Annen to make room.

That's as close to Vernon Davis as TT is getting.

Fumbled all the time too. Can't win a Super Bowl without an Adrian Peterson in the backfield, that's for sure.
I'm surprised the Seattle RB doesn't have a restraining order. The man crush is still lingering after all these years.

Quarless is back by the Thanksgiving game.

Most importantly, he was very assignment sure on 3rd down. He wasn't a big guy, but was fine in pass protection and was where he was supposed to be for checkdowns.
He was a decent player. He didn't have 2nd round talent, but he did his job. He didn't win games but he didn't lose them for you either. Guys that don't do what there are supposed to often get you beat (see Bostick, Brandon).

Marshawn will take BJ's anyway he can.

I named my sockpuppet Bitchmode.
LOL,, just takes a couple of tugs to go from sockmode to bitchmode

We'll be 8-3 or 9-2 after Chicago
Another guy who might be worth a look is Marcedes Lewis. He or Davis could potentially help this year and with their contracts being up, the packers could recoup a compensatory pick if they sign elsewhere next year.

I think we lose in Carolina, win vs. Detroit, and it's a toss up in Minnesota. So we're 8-2 or 7-3 going into the Chicago game.
All I know is that Chicago game better be over in the first half. If Bart Starr somehow makes it to Green Bay on Thanksgiving evening to go out on the field at half time, they better win big. I don't want Starr's last public event to be at a game where they lose to the Bears. It cannot happen. Period.
Davis is washed up. Watched him against the Rams this weekend. Two times the 49er's threw him the ball on routes inside the 10 but short of the goal line, where he had to beat one guy to score. Both times, he was stopped dead in his tracks.

Rodgers for Kap & VD. Amirite?
All in.
@AdamSchefter: Here's the actual deal: SF is trading Vernon Davis and a 2016 7th-round pick to Denver for a 6th in 2016 and a 6th in 2017, per sources.
@johnelway: We've agreed to trade for two-time Pro Bowl TE Vernon Davis from SF. He'll be a valuable addition to our team w/his experience & leadership.
