When the Davis and Hawk were on the draft board, Davis made it clear he did not want to play for the Packers. Davis is a head case and I am glad we got A.J. Hawk instead of him.

That was almost 10 years ago.

At this point, he may be broken down too much.

At least it's interesting enough to prompt some thought, and wasn't written as a "Packers looking to acquire..." story.

I have no idea what implications this would have on the salary cap; i.e., if we have to assume the remainder of his contract, can we get him at/near minimum salary, or whatever the case may be. I'm sure the Packers have the room to do a deal, but I couldn't see much more than $1M for the remainder of this season.

Like many others, I don't want him in Green Bay either. But if TT/MM thought he could be just what the doctor ordered, I would accept it. Very much like when Wolf brought Rison to Green Bay, IMHO.

Al Gore is way more interested in approving fried chicken.

I think the downside issues outweigh any benefit Davis mightbring. Sure, the cap cost might be workable, but his lack of team has been exposed in the past. Might he end up a distraction in the locker room rather than an asset? He's 31, constantly nicked up and has shown an ability to disappear on the field as much as make big plays.

This would smack as a move a desperate team would make. The offense has struggled vs. very good defenses, with key players out. They will iron these issues out on their own. Quarless will be back, Adams hopefully as well. I'd rather take my chances given the fact that we've seen MM and AR get things cranked up after slower starts previously.

Would it be great to have the dynamic weapon that Davis has shown himself to be in the past? Yeah, but I believe the braintrust of this organization can figure things out sans such a potential distraction coming aboard.

Starks didn't get his first carry until December. The team languished with Kuhn masquerading as a RB for a major chunk of the season. Yes, it all worked out in the end but that position was woefully undermanned the majority of the season.

The question is can he improve the club and what is the cost? I would give up a fourth or fifth for him and roll the dice. So called 'turds' have a tendency to become team guys when a ring becomes a possibility.

Brandon Jackson scored the winning TD against Philly in the 2010 Wild Card game. He tore Urlachers groin in two on a key 2nd and 13 catch and scamper to move the chains on a drive that resulted in a TD to give GB a 14-0 lead in Chicago.

Just another forgettable guy in a stable full of them in 2010 that did all kinds of key little **** perfectly at key times that resulted in Championship number 13.

Brandon was alright in my book.

Most importantly, he was very assignment sure on 3rd down. He wasn't a big guy, but was fine in pass protection and was where he was supposed to be for checkdowns.

He was a decent player. He didn't have 2nd round talent, but he did his job. He didn't win games but he didn't lose them for you either. Guys that don't do what there are supposed to often get you beat (see Bostick, Brandon).

I think we lose in Carolina, win vs. Detroit, and it's a toss up in Minnesota. So we're 8-2 or 7-3 going into the Chicago game.

All I know is that Chicago game better be over in the first half. If Bart Starr somehow makes it to Green Bay on Thanksgiving evening to go out on the field at half time, they better win big. I don't want Starr's last public event to be at a game where they lose to the Bears. It cannot happen. Period.

All in.

@AdamSchefter: Here's the actual deal: SF is trading Vernon Davis and a 2016 7th-round pick to Denver for a 6th in 2016 and a 6th in 2017, per sources.

@johnelway: We've agreed to trade for two-time Pro Bowl TE Vernon Davis from SF. He'll be a valuable addition to our team w/his experience & leadership.
