Ah, pronoun trouble.

March 8th kicks off the 2014 FA season in the NFL.

Key dates:

March 8-11: Clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with, the certified agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents upon the expiration of their 2013 player contracts at 4 p.m. ET on March 11. However, a contract cannot be executed with a new club until 4 p.m. ET on March 11.

March 11: New league year, free agency begins

March 11: Before 4 p.m. ET, clubs must exercise options for 2014 on all players who have option clauses in their 2013 contracts.

March 11: Before 4 p.m. ET, clubs must submit qualifying offers to their restricted free agents with expiring contracts.

March 11: Before 4 p.m. ET, clubs must submit a minimum salary tender to retain exclusive negotiating rights to their players with expiring 2013 contracts and who have fewer than three accrued Seasons of free agency credit.

March 11: All clubs must be under the 2014 salary cap before 4 p.m. ET.

Bedard, rhymes with ... garbage?

Not sure if the intent of this thread is to discuss prospective Packer FA siginings from other team or not.  But, I would think the Packers could use a vetern safety/difference maker type.  Jarius Byrd from Buffalo come to mind.  Also signing Nick Collins as depth and mentor wouldn't hurt either.  If GB has 30+ mill in cap space, this is the one area to improve before the draft.

Sounds like we will be seeing some huge deals in the coming weeks. 2014 cap now estimated to be $133mm, with 2015 to be near $140mm, and 2016 close to $150mm.

With the cash reserves the Packers have right now, and these new projections, does Ted change his stripes? There have been comments here about putting too much $$ into 1 position, and while he still likely won't sign anyone big early, he can put more $$ into say the WR or S spot than what was thought just a few weeks back.

These are must sign guys IMHO...you are not going to upgrade them through the draft or FA. Jordy is at the peak of his career, and Cobb's best football is in front of him.

IMHO, Shields is also a must sign guy...mainly because he's our best CB by a mile.

Judging by some early action, we might be headed to a wild FA spending period again.

Raiders re-sign OT Khalif Barnes, who played all but two snaps for the team in 2013, earning $585k in p/t incentives.

NFL just sent the memo out to teams: 2014 cap is $133M on the dot

Panthers gave Greg Hardy the franchise tag

Seahawks cut Sidney Rice

Jets use franchise tag on kicker Nick Folk

Eagles re-sign Jeremy Maclin

About Shields;  What bothers me greatly if we let him go somewhere else is this; He was just about the only dynamic big play threat outside of Mathews on a defense lacking big play threats. Yes he has had a few injuries(who hasn't on our D) but put Sammie on an island and you don't worry bout him. We need him. Let's not treat corner like we did safety last year. TT needs to loosen up a little if we wanna go to the big dance. Being competitive every year is great, but ultimately we want to win it all, and to do so IMHO we need to take a couple chances on free agents and in this case Sam Shields. By the way, hasn't TT said again and again that he wants to sign his own guys?

I forgot about that.  I guess that explains it.  The worst time of year to be a fan of the GBP.  Not because of what Ted does or doesn't do.  Probably not a coincidence that every tired, stupid meme we've seen since 2005 is starting to poke its head through the sand once again.

When a drama queen fan sees his own shadow in March, it's six more weeks of misery.

Memes of the season:

1. Ted goes on vacation during UFA, and that's done to insult me.

2. Ted doesn't sign his own FA's, and that's done to insult me.

3. Ted signs his own FA's, but they're almost all bad decisions that hurt me.

4. Ted is obsessed with having the youngest roster in the NFL every year.  At the expense of me.

5. Ted doesn't spend to the cap.  Solely to insult me.

6. Anyone who isn't eating his or her own feces after setting it on fire right now is a brainless Ted acolyte who thinks he's infallible.  That hurts me.

7. Every positional failure from the previous season gives me justification to build entire villages of strawmen around the impending doom of the GBP.  That's cathartic for me.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

O make no mistake, I have NO doubt he will keep us competitive and for that we should be thankful as there are much worse GM's(a majority of them I would opine). He is not infallible however and this is an open forum where we come to voice our opinions. It is true he dropped the ball on safety and backup QB position last year and he has not found a decent complement to Mathews or a good inside backer.

My original point was simply I personally do not wanna see Shields walk. He is imho pretty much lock down.

I sure wish somebody would show me a quote from TT that states, " I offered B.J. Raji a contract of $8 million per year and he turned it down!"  All that is ever said is it was reported TT offered Raji $8 million. Reported by who? Raji? His agent? Big Bad Bob? Packer club house boy? Stock holder GPB120895? Please tell me!!!
