Other than 9 years in the league what does he bring that the Packers don't already have?
James Jones release has been posted in three different threads now. I take this as confirmation he has in fact been cut.

Every other receiver currently in play for a roster spot is 25 or less.
So older is better?
I didn't post that.
I look forward to your prΓ©cis on the other 681 players.

Who is the 3rd WR the Pack has with any NFL regular season experience? After Cobbs and Adam, it's four unproven guys: Montgomery, Janis, Abrid, and White.
Jones would be a big security blanked if one of those guys doesn't make the step forward.
It would also be a tremendous help because of those four unproven guys, Janis is the only natural outside WR. Everyone else is a better fit in the slot. Ideally you could keep Cobb in the slot since that's his best position.
Sign him today and move Abrid or White to practice squad.
My guess is TT would rather roll the dice on a young Abby than use a roster spot on JJ.
I could see TT bringing on JJ as a steadying influence on the younger receivers, someone who already knows the offense. It's reasonable to assume that Adams will continue to grow and that Montgomery will be this year's Adams, but to put much stock in Janis with no regular season experience or Abby with ~1/4 of a one year's training camp under his belt seems like a bad idea IMHO. Might be a year for 6 receivers with Abby on the PS.

Intimate knowledge of the offense and a rapport with the QB.
Adams and Jones had same measurables coming out of college. That means they already have a sleeker, faster James Jones. Adams has good rapport with QB, albeit maybe not as good as JJ. Count me as one who thinks they pass on Jones.
Like what BrainDed posted his experience in this offense and with Rodgers would be an advantage. And also the fact Jones has postseason experience could be a big advantage over keeping Abby on the 53 man roster come January. If Jones would sign, I would be all in to have Abby kept on the PS this year.
I'd like Jones back as their #3-4 option. Montgomery/Abbrederis as the 4th/5th receivers aka the KR and PR. White is cut and Janis heads to PS or they keep 6 WR
What has Abby done in two training amps to warrant a spot on th 53???? Great, he had a nice career at Wisconsin - so what. Cut him, see if he can make it to the PS and prove he can stay healthy. If someone else grabs him, let his injury history be their concern (and his).

IMO he's better than Janis and White, and it's not really close. I want the team to keep the best talent. He's been hurt and that's a knock for sure but White is a jag and Janis is far too inconsistent. Abbrederis runs excellent routes and has great hands, not to mention would step in and immediately be the PR. This would allow the team to not expose Hyde to that anymore.
TT almost always gives his draft picks the benefit of the doubt. Packers have a fifth round pick invested in Abby and don't see them ready to throw it away quite yet.
Ying/Yang. Keep Abby a 5th rounder, and cut 4th rounder Bradford?
Wait until they cut Khyri.

Clearly TT hates black people

Hoping.

He's already cut his 3rd and 4th rounder from the same class. So no, that is false, sir.
Wow am I ever glad TT is in charge of the decision-making.
James Jones! Jeebus H. Cripes.

Abby's been injured the entire time he's been with the team and the team still believes he can play. Organization had plenty of time to determine that both Bradford and Thornton couldn't.
Just heard this on the radio. Will Ted give him a call?
No. And everyone knows the answer is no, so lets stop pretending like it isn't.
I could see TT signing JJ after week 1. That way if it doesn't work out they are not on the hook for his whole salary.
If he clears waivers he is a FA. No need to wait until after week 1 If TT wants him.
What I worry about is Abby has been injury prone and he's had a number of concussions. Yes, he's probably one of my faves from UW but he can't seem to stay on the field.
Does James Jones have Sunday Ticket?
