That was a real opportunity for Kizer to show his stuff. And it wasnβt pretty.
All in all, I am not terribly disappointed with tonight. We sat 18, 18 players that would probably start any given Sunday. We are within 7 points of Oakland in the 4th. I see a lot to be happy about on defense. We are playing our βscrubs β and they are playing ok against Oaklandβs scrubs. Oakland is not a crap team. They have a lot of talent.
Reminder, our starters sat tonight. So did a bunch from Oakland.
And a reality check, Cleveland just beat the SB champions 5-0. Who actually has the better team?
and, I really want Cleveland to do well this year. I root for them every week/ every year.
My second favorite team.
This might have something to do with the 70βs and 80βs packers teams I was a huge fan of
Solid take GB. I concur.
My point is, I think Packers are fine. As long as they finally figure out that Hundley is not the answer. I still have hope for Kizer.
I thought Brak had a nice game!
Jackson's pick 6
Hope and pray A-Rod stays healthy.
If any OL starters get hurt start warming up his backup.
Have a great day.
True, maybe they see a special player in him once he gets himself right??i know that they are a lot better than me judging talent.
I am talking about Madison here
But, honestly, I think he will never play one single down in the nfl
He quit, and, on some level, I can respect this.
I didnβt see much of the game, but regarding the OLine:
None of the starters played, and that means ALL backups played (obviously). That means thereβs 5 weak/weaker links. You canβt give help with a TE or FB or play calling when you have 5 backups.
I donβt think it will necessarily be a huge issue if a starter needs to be replaced for a period of time because you can help out a backup, maybe even two. The issue, I think, will be if multiple positions on the line go down.
Right now thereβs still time to develop. And thereβs always a couple of players at every position that are pretty decent from every team that just donβt make the final roster. And like Boyle (maybe), there may be some decent backups that other teams try to sneak to the PS. Thatβll be up to Gute and the scouts to find.
Obviously, the OLine depth is not ideal right now, but it may not be as dire as it appeared last night. Especially if the starters remain relatively healthy. We can only hope.
Watching my DVRβd copy of the game.......am I nuts or did I see someone who looks like Mike Sherman talking to MM last night?? Thought it last night watching the game, and now this morning, I swear itβs Mike Sherman.
RoyalWulff posted:did we really need a whole half of football to know that Hundley sucks? I think not. i watched last year. Didnβt the coaching staff? That didnβt exactly help any effort to showcase him for a trade, either.
Meanwhile, our best QB prospect sat on the bench all night. **** this team.
vitaflo posted:Boyle isn't going to get a start over someone with NFL game experience. Best thing for Boyle is they stash him on the PS.
If Boyle goes to the practice squad, he'll be gone and then MM will have to explain why Hundley and Kizer were better.
Neither Kizer nor Huntley will ever be anything better than really bad backups. End the experiment now.
Has MM already decided the make up of the QB room? Yes, he has, otherwise we would have seen Boyle try to eke out a win in this fiasco. That was a nice 1:20 drill there, Kizer. Passes to the middle of the field with no time outs and then a muffed snap that ate up a lot of clock. So,looking back, our backup QBs who played tonight sucked. Our back up OL is nonexistent. Alexander is not a punt returner. Scott can punt, and we will be seeing a lot of him this season if tonight's team effort carries over to the regular season. J'Mon Moore looked good tonight. Josh Jackson is a baller. Goodson had a few good plays and looked totally lost on all the others. When cutdown time comes, some decisions will be very easy to make.

I'm in the camp of... they're trying to limit the film on Boyle as much as possible. He did show a very good arm in the limited time he played, who knows, maybe that's enough for another team to put him on their roster. I really hope we're able to keep him, he's got some tools you can work with, and 2 years from now might be able to really help somebody.

After Rodgers it's hot garbage. So is the 2nd/3rd O-Line
I canβt believe Iβm going to say relax but relax.
Itβs preseason. Reminds me of pitchers in spring training. It doesnβt mean a whole hell of a lot unless you are the Queens then you want to go undefeated and tell everyone about it.
The #1 goal is to get out of preseason healthy. For the most part GB has done that. Although, Iβm curious how Burks can get a dislocated shoulder in warm ups.
I didnβt watch the game, but I saw enough of Hundley last season to know that if heβs our backup qb again this season, then MM is basically saying heβll wave the white flag if AR goes down again.....and the Eagles just proved that you can win a SB with a competent backup qb.
Well done MM.
Itβ not as mind boggling as holding onto Compers for several years too long, but itβs not far from it.
Difficult to really evaluate QB play when the OL is playing that poorly. This is pretty typical of the performance from the line all night.
Quoted from MM, βI thought out quarterbacks handled it very wellβ
I think he was speaking in response to the sucky OL.
Joe. That is...hilarious? Patrick and Pankey double team one dude, Aaron Jones with a great block and hold on the LB, and the rest get absolutely steamrolled. Spriggs and Murphy bent backwards, Bell burned bad by a spin move.
Wow.
I give the OL as a whole a lot of grief, but the truth is our interior backups aren't that bad. Just the Tackles.
Interestingly, it seems there are a lot of teams with the same/similar problems. Just like the QB position, there's not enough quality in the league for all (or most) teams to have Tackles who dominate at their positions.
The worst, as I see it, is how to evaluate the rest of the offense when both Tackles are getting bowled over every play. I'm guessing there's small things to look at like how a QB handles pressure, how the WRs handle a scramble drill, and the like, but it seems mostly a waste of time.
Murphy was brutal and Spriggs just marginally better. Not sure what the plan is should something happen to Bakh or Bulaga....
As bad as that was, the more I watch it, the better 33 looks. What a great job.
We cut Ulrick John. And he was starting at LT for the Patriots last night. What does that say about the staffβs evaluation? I agree that the interior line is ok but the tackles sucked. Also, all those position changes probably did not help.
On second thought, maybe we were trying to get Hundley and Kizer injured so we could put them on IR.
I read somewhere that the QBβs were handing notes to rotating players telling their family that they loved them...
Although, Iβm curious how Burks can get a dislocated shoulder in warm ups.

I have to think this was "protection" to keep him off the field. He's too valuable to not have at the start of the season.
I think, to be an effective quarterback, you must have 2 of the 3 As: Arm strength, Accuracy, Anticipation.
I didn't see ANY of those consistently from either Hundley or Kizer.
It amazes me that the team is comfortable with the 2 lowest rated quarterbacks from last year as their backups (among those with at least 250 pass attempts)
This is McCarthy trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
Hundley is done. He's gotta go.

Lordy, is that bad. Jones was great in keeping his feet moving and neutralizing his guy, but those other three looked like a house of cards. Hoping some better options arise during cutdowns...
Limiting film on Boyle is asinine. If he displays value, play him, groom him and give him a roster spot.
Hundley sucks and shows no signs of improvement. I havenβt written Kizer off just yet because thereβs still time to improve. Boyle shows impressive raw skills.

Yeah it could be limiting tape, which I get but do not necessarily to approve of... but who knows, maybe he's made the club and they are giving all the rest of the time to Hundley and Kizer to decide which one wins a spot.
Monty hurt? So Monty.
Kid just might not be made for this profession.

I think we all know what that means. You're a big bully and leave McVince alone.
Yeah, that Oline sucks for depth and way more important than the depth at OLB. GingGongFooey has his work cut out for him.
i just watched the replay on dvr. few things:
- - i think most of tonight was to show gutey what the o line really looks like
- somebody made the comment about making raiders d look all world so they would trade mack, lol - you never know...
- hundley is cringe type qb, i don't like that he will be the backup, but i would be surprised if he was not
- other notables, rookie cb's looked good, 23 got toasted by cooper though, 37 should probably start opposite king (serious) and 23 in slot
- 51 should never be on this team, 50 did not impress me, alot of the guys run with the play instead of trying to tackle
- 96,97 looked good 52 can't get to the qb anymore, move him inside - and 93 can get to the qb
- 56 looked really slow at times, we need bowman in there if 42 can't go
- no panic, but i like the strategy of playing all the 2nd string against 1's to see what you really got.
