The Monsters of the Midway showed up for the NFL's season opener.
They were wearing GOLD, GREEN, and WHITE.
Fabulous!
I love when Rodgers shoves Pettine.
Change is a good thing. It's how you embrace it that defines you.
Remember all that hand wringing over Pettine's defense that couldn't tackle in the pre-season?
They sure as hell looked like they knew how to tackle last night.
The tackling did impress me too.
a friend kept texting me about the GBP D during the game. I just kept replying "refreshing!" and "so refreshing!".
it's been a long time, brought me joy, I love a good defense far more than a good offense. but I did keep reminding myself that it was the bears offense so it might not be the best measuring stick but it was the first measuring stick and it impressed.
the only guy that was wide open all night stonehanded the catch and dropped it. otherwise anyone that caught a pass had our guy draped on him and was brought down NOW. so refreshing.
and pressure on the QB. DEFENSE - welcome back to GB!
Been waiting for about a decade to see what I saw last night. Think the people who said personnel was the problem were right and so were the people who said the DC was. The two were never mutually exclusive.
I think LaFleur was still focused on the fact that we had to go out and snap the ball twice before this was over.
Yes and yes. A whole lot needed fixing. And please keep it up.

I was texing a friend of mine as well and we both said "who is this defense and what happened to them?" Like you said it is so damn refreshing because honestly we haven't had a defense like this since we won the super bowl?
I know it is the Bears offense but performances like this will help grow confidence and that "nasty attitude" that this D has been lacking for a LONG time.
To me, Nick Perry alone speaks volumes to just how shitty the personnel on GB's defense was. Nick Perry is 29 years old and played at a premium position in the NFL at OLB. He had been GB's starting OLB for several years prior to getting cut. Since then, no other team in the NFL thinks he is even worthy of a backup position.
Yeah, not even at vet minimum.
He probably wouldn't accept vet minimum

And LaFluer looked worried. Yet Pettine goes on to get a hug from uncle fester.

Agree that Perry who was and actually still is this season being paid like a top outside linebacker is a great example of how the Packers overvalued guys on D for years just because Ted brought them in.
Not enough credit is being given to Gutey for moving on so many of Ted's players.
Without the change at GM, Perry is still on the roster, Clay probably gets a new contract, HHCD has been given a big second contract, we are all waiting for Josh Jones' third year leap (and I think Josh is still on the street like Perry), and the Smith brothers and Amos are all playing for teams that don't hate free agency like Ted did.
Yup
Now the pitfall to avoid is falling in love with free agency, when you think, "We're just one player away..." Judicious use of free agency is key.

great point, and as a fan you fall in love with the players like Clay who were around during last championship. I was upset to see so much turnover but thats the tough business mindset Gutey brings. What Poppinga said about TT in the video Boris posted is very revealing : https://youtu.be/4TFZqmtJ7kc

2 times, What? The game wasn't over, Mayo was getting things done. Defense was celebrating. Pretty damn sure Mayo wasn't concerned about anything but finishing the game.
Z'Darius looks like Ezekiel from Walking Dead....he needs to start walking around with a Tiger by his side.
Well if Travis Jervey could have a lion....
#Packers DC Mike Pettine: "We've got to get a handle on the explosive plays, not just the runs but the passes. The praise we're receiving as a defense, our guys know that we're nowhere near where we can be. Hopefully they realize how close we are to being real good." pic.twitter.com/OPIKd5gnpx

They gettin' it done.
Through week five of the regular season, these teams have been the best at getting to the QB without sending extra defenders: #GoPackGo #FlyEaglesFly #Saints #SeizeTheDEY #GoPats #BroncosCountry #LARams #KeepPounding #DUUUVAL #WeAreTexans @gregcosell | @MattBowen41 pic.twitter.com/KSB1jl08dX

Matt LaFleur estimated explosive gains from Cowboys accounted for roughly 361 yards: "There were far too many explosives. There's no doubt about that."

At least there was no explosive diarrhea.
I assume that's not including the game thread?
When healthy... King, Alexander, Amos, Savage and Williams might be as good as it gets in the league. That's a legit secondary.
