Although I am not a fan of Pete Carroll, I unexpectedly found myself cheering Seattle at the start of the game.  Reason being is I went for a run and listened to a couple of Denver radio guys just trash talk on the Seahawks.  Saying they had no idea how Seattle could keep pace with the Manning-led Broncos.  And Wilson was no match.  No way would they even come close to scoring 24 points while the Broncos would score much more.

Another reason and the same reason it seems as to why I cannot stand the Broncos, some of their fans and their media is over-top maniacal boorish style.

Manning had a brutal game and certainly is open to criticism.

But this predictable cry about his "big game failures" is absurd. That AFC title game vs. New England two weeks ago was a pretty big game, and he played lights' out. The guy is one of the all-time bests and has played plenty of big time games. He and his entire team sucked tonight. It happens to all the greats. Brady has had some lousy playoff games in recent history as well. Rodgers just had one a month ago.

The thing that stands out to me about tonight's game is that as great as TT is as a GM, he clearly needs to rethink his positioning with free agency. For some reason the assumption is that when you lock up your own players it's a good deal but it's a bad deal when you sign away other guys. But that's not the case. He gave Burnett $25 million and Jones $12 million to stay with Green Bay. Meanwhile, look at the impact Avril and Bennett had on that Seattle D for $15 million and $5 million respectively. Those guys applied the pressure and all Denver could do was make quick passes and get swallowed up by those lightning fast linebackers.

I hate this Ted has to re examine free agency stuff. Ted did bring in free agents, Woodson, Pickett. That is in the day they did not have some big salary cap guys. Lets see how the Hawks handle this off season, they have cap problems, bigger ones the year after.  SF has cap problems, big one if they pay their QB. Cap management is a big part of what a GM does, Ted has the Packers in a pretty good situation cap wise, they can keep the guys they really need.

Ted could have played in the Free Agent market last year all he had to do was let Mathews walk, maybe Nelson and Cobb next year.

Woodson and Pickett were five years ago. And I'd say those signings went pretty well, so not sure the hesitancy to continue.

Regarding your comment on the salary cap, that's precisely my point. People just assume signing a free agent is something that will break you or you can't do it with a big money QB. But Avril and Bennett were two totally reasonable price points this off season. The value those guys contributed for a combined $12.5 M in salary this year is far greater than Hawk, Burnett, Jones and the other guys TT has resigned on the defense.

Signing your own doesn't automatically make it a good deal just like signing another team's free agent doesn't make it a bad deal. There are bargains like Avril or Bennett (or Woodson or Pickett!) in UFAâ€Ķand there are lemons like Jones and Hawk and Burnett when you resign your own players.

They won a game on a horrible call by replacement refs that should have never been on the field to make such a horrible call. I hated the way Carroll and Tate behaved during that whole debacle...but they weren't cheating.

I think the cheating accusation is probably associated with the absurd number of PED suspensions they've had as a team.

Manning has a career playoff record now that's below .500

I also think it's fair to challenge his playoff record because in how many of those losses were his teams favored to win?  Most of them I'd say.

Is he a great player?  Absolutely.  A first ballot HOF guy for sure.   But if you look at how many opportunities he's had to win it all (and he hasn't delivered) he's opened himself up to the criticism.  That's they way it works in the NFL

By the way- comparing Rodgers loss a few weeks ago to this loss is ridiculous.   Everyone knew that SF was the better team in that game and GB barely had enough players to field a team.

By the way, for all of the "we need to sign more free agents" banter you might want to know that the majority of Seattle's players were drafted, not signed as free agents

Wilson, Sherman, Tate, Wagner, Chancellor, Thomas, Irvin, Mebane, Malcolm Smith, Red Bryant, Okung, Unger, etc.

Sure, they traded for Lynch (one of the best moves in NFL history) and signed Percy Harvin and a couple of other guys like Avril but the core of that team are draft picks.

Manning is 11-12 in the postseason and 1-2 in Super Bowls. The perception that he can't get it done in the big games may not be entirely fair, but that's life as a high-profile NFL QB.

TT probably needs to become a bit more active in FA and he certainly needs to draft better defensively.  Look at TT's recent work in the middle rounds and what Seattle has done there and it's not even close. Misses like Manning and McMillian really hurt.

In his 3 SB's Manning has a total of 3 TD's and 4 picks. He faced a good Bears D, a very good Seattle D, and a suspect Saints D. But for a guy with his ability those are very Tarkenton like numbers (except for the lone win against Rex Grossman of course). Is Manning the only QB to throw a pick 6 in two different SB's???

I think Henry mentioned it yesterday. But the best in the AFC is not close to the best in the NFC. I still think it's a big reason Peyton decided to stay in conference. But watching the game yesterday I couldn't help but think of all the 49'er fans wondering how the hell they lost to Baltimore last year.
