What I completely missed was the Sweezy late hit was ruled to have taken place "during" the play not at the end of the play. So GB was forced to decline the penalty and take the sack.

Essentially, instead of being 2nd and 45 Sweezy got a free cheap shot at Clay after the sack.

Today really sucks.

I will have to look and see if it was called a late hit or unnecessary roughness. How can a "late hit" be before the play is over. It seemed strange to me at the time.

Agree Rodgers makes the receivers to a point.  No way you let Cobb walk.   He is the real deal.  I do not trust Duhvante, Janis - Ms. Jackson if your nasty and Abberdumdum

Priority 1 RC

Priortiy 2 Bulaga

Anything else is gravy.

Tramon unless willing to take a bargain deal played his last snap in GB

I want Cobb to return, but I understand the business side where you want to keep your starting RT, starting CBs, starting OLB and solid depth also. I think they went WR heavy bracing for the fact that Cobb just may be worth more than they can pay. Cobb is a special player and he's young, but the balancing act of keeping everyone is hard.

I will be pissed though if (hypothetically) Cobb's cap number for another team is like 6 million and we could have saved at least that much money by dumping Hawk and Jones. If a good player has to walk to because there isn't cap space while those two overpriced schlubs are still here then I'm gonna be pissed. I'm sure they're hard workers and nice guys, but they flat out stink as football players. Fortunately I think TT is smart enough to realize that those two simply aren't justifying their salaries, which seems to usually be the deciding factor with him. Their numbers are way down and their performance just didn't justify their cap number. If MM or TT is insistent they be kept then I think they should be making vet minimum because at this point they are just special teams players and mediocre backups.

I think Bulaga would be gone before Cobb. I really do. I'm sure Tramon Williams would.

I don't put a lot of stock in preseason games either. Nobody knows if Janis etc. can actually play. There were some fans screaming a few years back because the Packers kept James Jones over Tori Gurley due to some preseason games and the fact he opted to stay on the GB practice squad instead of going to the Vikings.

I thought the 1st 55 minutes of the game was Capers best work since he has been coordinator. Then the last 5 minutes was nothing but a keystone cops routine. If anything could go wrong, it did go wrong. I would also argue that MM miscues in the last quarter were just as egregious as Capers and MM isn't going anywhere. Not sure how a loss like that yesterday affects the team going forward. After Brett threw the pick In Philly when Sherman screwed up 4th and 26 and 4th and one, the team next year went into the toilet and a new coaching staff was brought in.

Team probably needs to hire a shrink and put him on the sideline next year. The effects of this game may last a while.

This was the worst loss in Packers history.  In my mind, worse than losing to the Broncos in the SB...my most terrible nightmare came true then.  In some respects, a loss like this can send a team into a major funk.  But I do not expect that to happen at all.  Quite the opposite will take place next year I believe.   Much like when the Packers lost to DallASS in 95 at the NFC Championship, I see this team and the players coming back will be galvanized to play determined and play well.

I think TT will take care of business and sign as many F/As as he can to keep the core group together.  I think MM will finally realize he has to be more aggressive and less predictive in his playcalling.  Rodgers will be healthy and will be even more of a force behind center.

Peppers will be back.  Cobb too.  Hawk stays...as a coach.   Bulaga is back as well.  Lacy will be trimmed down and even better.  Raji back also.  Jones may be out.  Bostick probably is somewhere else.  Slocum...might be dismissed.

This is a Superbowl team right now.   Likely a Superbowl winning team right now.  Until that cluster****tastatrophe 4th quarter and OT.

This is not blow **** up time.

No F'ing way you let a player like Cobb - in his prime - who wears a C for Captain on his chest walk.  no ****ing way.

Probably a bakers dozen players on the roster right now that will not be on next years roster.   But Cobb aint one of them.

ROTTT made a reasonable offer to DumDumJennings when he had Jordy, Jones, Cobb and Finley already on the team.

ROTTT might not have a clue at MLB but he damn sure knows the right kinds of WR for Arod .

Agree 100% with McCarthy taking himself out of play-calling duties. That's at least realistic. I think the things he does best are drawing up schemes, and running his QB school, so ideally I'd want him demoted to offensive coordinator. And on game day being up in the booth with a bird's eye view figuring out the defense. He's a trainwreck managing the game from the sideline.

I for one am shocked by this revelation.

Easy there, guy.  I was talking about the post above mine.

There isn't a chance that either is back. The fact that their playing time vanished, that Jones was even replaced as the dime LB yesterday, indicates they are out.  The only reason they were on the squad at the end of the season was because there were no LBs on the roster/practice squad worthy of replacing them with.

While we're playing Walter Mitty Packers GM one more thing for the to do list. Bring in some damn punters to compete with Tim Masthay. I don't know what's happened to him. His 30 something yard punt after the 3 and out that proceeded the Seahawks first offensive score wasn't as noticeable as the botched onside kick recovery or the fake FG score. But it was impactful. It gave Seattle good field outside their 30 without any time going off the clock on a return. They were able to run the ball for a nice gain on first down with the Packers in a defense designed to defend a pass. The body language of the Packer defenders after that thing went out of bounds with only something like 70 seconds elapsing since they forced what they thought was a game clinching turnover was noticeable. Like a shift workers relief not showing after he/she already did 12 hours.

I'm guessing you're not serious.

Depends on what you mean by serious. Is it plausible? Of course not, that's not how it works. Hence why I endorsed the idea of him getting someone else to handle play calling duties as the realistic option.

But I do think offensive coordinator is where he would give a team the most value.

Cobb is the one guy they need to resign.  He fills so many needs and is such a matchup problem it's got to happen

Bulaga is a luxury - had a nice year but playing with house money - guy can't stay healthy

Tramon and Julius - would like to see them back but not at 2014 cap levels

Yes I am a Big Ten homer but Maxx is Gronk part II and Melvin Gordon would be an unreal change of pace back in this offense

It is an interesting thought and one I had today...

What if Gordon is sitting there at 30?  Do you take him?   I understand the obvious reasons not to:

1. Already have Lacy/Starks

2. GB has other needs that have been beaten to death here

3. Every 'great' Wisconsin RB has been a bust in the NFL

Still, if Gordon pans out and you add that weapon to this offense and you can do so for a relatively cheap price of the 30th pick?

Do it and run that card up to the podium like you stole something.

I don't see cap space being much of a concern with the Packers.  Estimates have them 25 million under and then if Hawk and Jones are released that frees up another 7 million plus.  32 million...I don't think they need to mess with Peppers contract at all and there is more than enough cash there to easily sign the free agents.

I'm for keeping Cobb and Bulaga, even when factoring in Bulaga's injury concerns.  Barclay is coming back from an injury.  If they had one more injury at tackle this season it probably would have forced them to bounce Lang outside which wouldn't have been the best situation.  Tretter was overmatched at tackle.  Thompson could get stuck taking a tackle in round one if Bulaga is gone and I would rather see him have the flexibility to chosse a NG, ILB or OT in round one.  Cobb is my favorite Packer...good enough reason for me to want to see him be retained.  But with Ted sinking a second round pick into Adams, it makes me think he might let Cobb go.

Matthews should stay at ILB.  He only had 2.5 sacks prior to the move and 8.5 sacks after the move.  I think it helped that he didn't have to bang heads with 300+ pound linemen on nearly every play.  The defense was way better after they made the move.  Between Peppers, Neal, Perry and maybe Elliott...they still look fairly decent at OLB even without Matthews.  ILB is a mess.

I was as frustrated as anybody with the way McCarthy handled the end of this game.  But the guy is one of the elite head coaches and playcallers in the NFL.  ELITE.  Look at those win/loss records and offensive production during his time with Green Bay.  Those results don't lie.

As far as Capers, I wonder how much the complexity of the defense and all the ridiculous sub packages adversely impacts this defense.  Capers has the reputation of having good defenses when he first arrives at a new job, and then it declines over the length of his stay.  Could it be because he keeps throwing more things in every year and eventually it just becomes a cluster****ed mess to the players?  Hell, one play they will have 3 DLmen and 4 LBs on the field, the next play they'll have 1 DLmen and 5 LBs and 5 DBs on the field, the next play they'll have 2 DLmen and 3 LBs and 6 DBs on the field.  One week Jones is only playing in the dime defense, Hawk is only in the nickel defense, and then the next week it gets shuffled to something else.  Remember how at the beginning of the year they were both a 3-4 defense and a 4-3 "quad" defense (the quad was such a disaster it didn't even make it into the fifth game).  Lovie Smith had that simple defense in Chicago, even stated that they didn't do anything to fancy, that they only did a few different things but the players knew what to do and were comfortable and confident in what they were doing on the field.  I remember a couple below average defenses out of those Bear teams but most of the time they had really good defenses and they were never terrible.  It may not be a sexy, but it sure seemed to be better year-in and year-out compared to the Packer's recent defenses.
