There have been times this week when I felt that the situation was so bad that it might make sense to treat this like a preseason game and sit most key starters. But then I would go back against the idea and want to see how the team reacts against adversity. I am getting a better idea how other teams feel when they have to struggle with similar problems.

With a 2-3 TE set, and Cobb in the slot with MVS on the outside, I see no reason why Rodgers can't dink and dunk screen plays and quick slants most of the game while Dillon and Jones collectively rush for 300 yards.

If the Packers can contain the Cardinals offense to 21 points, they will win. The offense has been carrying this team for more seasons than I can count, It. Is. Time. they step up and help them out.

This doesn't seem like the type of game where you'd bring a lot of defensive pressure, rather contain.  That's a tough row to hoe considering the state of the backfield right now.

I haven't watched enough of the Cards to say Murray is the type of QB that's able to pick a defense apart sitting back in the pocket but I hope this defense stays fluid in it's approach.  The defensive battle cry should be "MOAR DUCT TAPE".

Not that we need to play dirty, but we need to get as physical as humanly possible with Kalamari. Beat the piss out of him. Make him feel it every time he takes off running.

Easier said than done...he's the most dynamic QB in the league...more so than even peak Lamar Jackson or Vick. But that was how you beat those guys...by hitting them hard.

Lowry talked about that "balance" in his presser... you have to rush him, but stay in lanes and be in control.

I’m still doing more research on whether Murray is a running quarterback.

They've done a good job making sure he's a mobile QB that uses his legs to buy time. The way he escapes shit is like Barry Sanders. He also has an excellent WR group that helps him make all his dreams come true.

Their D is also highly underrated. This will be the most complete team we've faced so far this season...but we can beat them even sans 17 and 13.

The comparatively slow, predictable WFT QB ran for 95 yards last week…need to address that.

A big reason for that. 91 has been consistently good at setting the edge, the Packers missed him last Sunday. He should be back tomorrow.

@packerboi

If there was ever a game for us to generate a consistent interior pass rush, this would be it. Maybe if P-Smiff is back, move him inside like bald man did with Z a couple years ago in situations. We also saw flashes of that with 52 last week, and when it happened, seemed to show good results.

The Double L's can't be relied upon to provide that consistent pressure up the middle.

I am curious to see if Grey is a better DC than Barry. Both have been DC’s in the past on struggling teams. Barry knows LB’s and Grey knows DB’s. I wonder if that is reflected in the defensive play calling. I know that Barry sets up the game plan but Grey can call the plays on defense this game.

Jaylon Smith can run with Kyler Murray. That’s his job tomorrow night. Spy him. Find him. Put him on the ground. It’s pretty clear if you give Jaylon multiple reads & responsibilities things get off the rails.  Give him 1 job. This would be a good job for him.

What did they play, 1 game without Lazard and Adams last year? Yeah, that was the Falcons game. Tonyan was huge as was Jones and Jamaal. They didn't have Cobb. They have all the tools they had back then (minus Williams, add in Cobb, Dillon and Amari) assuming we get MVS back.

MLF/Gray should say fuck it and go for broke with calls. Go for every 4th down, pressure the shit out of KM, go for 2, empty the bag of tricks. We either win or we lose by 30, either way it would be a lot of fun.

I want Jones to have a TD pass, AR to have a receiving TD, and Kenny Clark to have a TD run.

I don't know why anyone thinks Jaylon, post injury, can stay with Murray.

As far as RTFB!, ARZ will be loading the box with 17 and 13 out.  If MVS plays he needs to win his routes.  That alone would loosen everything up.  If he doesn't play or is limited, ARZ is just going to bring more bodies down within 10yds of the LOS.

Exactly. What’s not being much talked about is the Cards defense. JJ Watt can still be disruptive and so can the rest of their line. I  see a bit of a drop off in the play of some of our offensive linemen. I don’t see them as road graders in the run game and other teams have found a way to confuse the youngsters in the pass rush. If the Packers plan is to run the ball and pass protection in order to out score the Cards then it will take a better game from the line. Rodgers might need time in the pocket as well as an effective run game. It’s up to the middle of the line to make that happen. Their line putting pressure on #12 might force him to throw the ball away (or worse) because he may not be in sync yet with the backups at WR.

It would make for a fun game at minimum.

I don't think they have the horses for it.  Maybe Douglass and Sullivan step up but I don't think balance is a possibility with a banged up backfield.

Before everyone thinks AZ is All-World, food for thought:

Thank god (Or Yooper) for the new thread.   I'm hoping this is one of those games where everything points to an easy win for the opponent and our Pack surprises us all.

Totally agree and I very much welcome talking football again.  So like I said in the other thread I haven't seen the Cardinals play yet but looking at their schedule of who they have played they have beaten TN and Rams who I would consider as top tier teams. They have beaten middle of the road teams like Cleveland, Spermheads and 49ers.  And crappy Jags and Texans teams.

They also have their fair share of injuries.  Hopkins and JJ has not practiced with a shoulder injury.  They also are banged up at the LB position.

So not to be too much like Capt. Obvious GB has to figure out a way to stop Murray which is much easier said than done.  The dude is lighting up the stats and looks to be the NFCs version of Lamar Jackson.  To me the way to do that is to play keep away from him and whatever they do they have to run the ball.

So to me it comes down to if the Packers have enough players to slow them down.  I don't think they do unfortunately but would love to be wrong.

Concern really remains (just as it was before losing two wideouts) with the defense. Think MLF and AR have enough weapons to score sufficiently but whether the defense can contain Murray and crew to a reasonable degree is another matter.

I’m worried about many of the matchups in this one. Our OL needs to play better. It sounds like Bahk won’t play yet, and I haven’t heard anything about Myers being ready.

It sounds like Winfree may be activated. As good as he looked in preseason that’s a little intriguing (yeah, I get it, preseason doesn’t tell you much. But he made some difficult, clutch catches.)

With WR1&2 out, I would think Jones and Dillon will get more targets. The tight ends as well. Haven’t heard Dafney’s name recently; not sure if he might get some playing time.

and they sure as heck better block better on FG attempts!

As for our defense, Rasul Douglass and Campbell have sure been pleasant surprises. I think it’s very odd that we’re hearing pretty much nothing about Za’Darius. I mean, he’s been a leader on defense and I would think a leader would still be vocal even when he can’t play. I’d also like to start hearing that Alexander is getting close to returning. In the meantime, the guys we have will be in for a really big challenge. I hope we can get pressure on Kyler Murray consistently.

Go Pack, GO!

Meyers and Dafney are on IR. Dafney is eligible to return but Myers isn't yet.

Daymm! 92 years they were on?!?

@MikeClemensNFL
After 92 years #Packers games will no longer be broadcast on WTMJ Radio. Beginning next year The Packers Radio Network is moving to 97.3 The GAME, in Milwaukee. Just announced by the Green Bay Packers.
