I'm struggling to understand why you don't play out the year with him and then let him walk if you're not interested in extending him.

This is simply what it boils down to. And to think Sitton would then morph into some locker room cancer if no deal is done is simply stupid. He's too much of a Pro.

GB was not in some sort of cap hell that they desperately needed Sitton's cap space. So I don't buy that as a rationale either.

What if Josh didn't want to play the year out without an extension? He may have forced this decision.

We don't know what we don't know.

We only know what's been said. In what way did he "force" that decision? Did hold out? He isn't the first Packers player who wanted an extension. If that was the reasoning its the dumbest move since putting the safety position into the hands of MD Jennings and Jerron McMillian in 2012.

To Barclay into the lineup on purpose Sitton should have to commit every one of the 7 deadly sins. And even then there should hesitation.

I was prepared to play the season," Sitton told PackersNews.com. "I have no hard feelings whatsoever. They're comfortable with who they have. They weren't planning on going forward with me.

"That's business. I'm sad to leave. I'm excited about new opportunities."

There's been nothing to suggest Sitton would refuse to play if not given a new deal TODAY. Nothing. Everything he's said and how he's handled himself throughout his career have told us he would have continued to be a pro's pro about this and played through the season just fine.

Like you, more cocktails. Many many more cocktails.

Mutha-fukk.

It's not like Sitton is going to tell reporters he demanded an extension. He's got to land somewhere. Just trying to make sense of something that doesn't make a lot of sense given Linsley headed to the PUP.

All good conversation though.

Hey A$$HOLE.....STFU!

I should've cut you from the X4 roster 5 years ago too but I didn't do that

As of right now, the only things we "know" are that the team has $6M more in the pool for one of its biggest FA classes in recent memory, and they likely won't have an LG in week 1 that can perform at the level of Sitton at his best.

What we don't know:

Was there more drama over the contract than what's being reported?

Has the team seen something this summer to suggest either Sitton has regressed or his replacement has improved?

Does the chronic back scare the medical staff?

It's shocking on the surface, but I don't see how anyone sitting at home can definitively say this is the wrong move within hours of the news.

After a whole mess of cocktails I've decided Sitton invoked the nuclear option and asked for multiple year extension and Ted said no. Josh said cut me loose.

But I still hate Barclay.

I agree.  I think this is what happened.

Josh could easily feign surprise as he signs a huge FA contract.  My biggest hope is he doesn't sign with a division team.

Barclay is awful as a tackle.  He may be OK as a guard.  We have bodies that will work as guards.

We ARE talking about a LG after all.  This is NOT a LT.   I think we can get bodies to do the work.

After the shock and dismay, the more I have thought about it I am fine with it.  If he was going to be some type of cancer for the season then it had to be done.  If we can take that extra cash and extend several players, even better.

I just hope that team morale is not affected.   It shouldn't be, this is a veteran team.  TBH I wouldn't be surprised if 12 got a call before this too to get his blessing.

Don't you know reasonable,  thoughtful comments are not what is called for now?

I haven't even started dealing with the fact Josh Sitton is gone. He was one of my all time favorite players. I loved the guy like I loved Woodson. What an offensive lineman.

Thanks Josh. For everything.

Sitton was probably my favorite player on this team.  Funny as hell too. That said, I have faith in "the process" although I readily rarely understand it. That's why I do what I do and they do what they do.

I gotta say though I'm a little disappointed with my friend Chilli Jon and Henry who I respect. I thought they'd appreciate the potential impact of this move a little bit more and be more vocal in this thread.

I wonder though, if this could make some FAs NOT want to sign, since they may see this as the team not being loyal.  Could it backfire and cause the Packers to lose the rest of their OL FAs???

I would guess not, but if they were as tight as they seemed, you can wonder about it...

It is truly shocking though--almost weird like a really bad joke gone wrong.

What are these free agents of which you speak?

I loved both Woodson & Sitton as well, two of the very, very few players who dared speak their mind during the TT era - sometimes even questioning the wisdom of the powers that be.

I think it's hard for FAs to decide against GB if the invitation never materializes. I think the opposite happens. If Ted comes strong at a FA its for a reason. Woodson. Peppers. And Peppers may get his ring if Cook works.

I remember going into the game day chat in 2007, under a username I couldn't remember the password to, and commenting the Henry wasn't there... Funny anonymous internet story

Then h has the option to sit out and forfeit his pay.  You don't just let him walk free for nothing.
