D.J. Williams

Speaking of disappointments, what's up with this guy? Totaled 7 catches in 13 games without having to compete with Quarless for time this year. Something tells me he's going to be in a battle to make the roster next august. Thought he was going to make a jump this year but the most memorable thing he did the whole season was his cow tipping story at the beginning of the year.

Oops. Meant D.J. Smith. Big Grin

Not saying Smith is the answer either, but Jones (who will be 27 next season) probably doesn't have any "untapped potential" left.
One guy seemingly doing well in mobile is Safety Jonathan Cyprien.

Eric Fisher is supposedly looking very good at LT also.

NT/DT John Jenkins is likely out of Green Bay's reach but he's been devastating in 1-on-1s. It would be fun to line up Pickett, Raji and Jenkins across the line and maybe even AJ Hawk wwould look decent. Okay, that's a stretch.
I wonder if TT might be interested in Steven Jackson this off season? I know Jackson will turn 30 this off season, but he might be an exception to the rule. There's been rumors in the past that GB had been interested in him. Jackson recently stated that he'd like to play for a contender. A big bruising back with a bit of speed just might make that offensive line look a bit better.
Here is my first mock draft of the offseason:

Round 1â€ĶPick 27
C Barrett Jonesâ€ĶAlabama
6’5”â€Ķ305 lbs.
*A truly gifted football playerâ€ĶUnheard of versatility, having played successfully at all 5 OLine positions during his careerâ€ĶWon the Outland Trophy at LT, the Rimington Trophy at C, and has been recognized as an All-American at RG and RTâ€ĶGood frame with room at add muscleâ€ĶHighly intelligent with a good football mindâ€ĶConsistently displays great technique in both the run and pass gameâ€ĶDespite his height, he gets leverage and can latch on and turn DL in the run gameâ€ĶNot a mauler and doesn’t blow DL off the lineâ€ĶHas shown good ability to get to the 2nd levelâ€ĶAnchors well in the pass game and mirrors like a LTâ€ĶGreat quickness of the snap and understands how to use his hands with a good initial punch and hand placementâ€ĶSuffered Lisfranc injury in the SEC Championship game but played through it and then played through it again in the BCS Championshipâ€ĶWill be out 3-4 months, but should be ready for Training Camp

Compares to: C Maurkice Pounceyâ€ĶPittsburgh Steelers

Round 2â€ĶPick 59
FS Tony Jeffersonâ€ĶOklahoma
5’11”â€Ķ210 lbs.
*A really natural football playerâ€ĶVery athletic with above average speed, quickness, and agilityâ€ĶCan stick with Receivers in Man and has the vision and instincts to hold his own in Zoneâ€ĶStrong and physical, doesn’t back down from bigger players like Backs and TEs in the pass game or run gameâ€ĶGreat instincts as a run defender, diagnosing plays quickly and reacting quicklyâ€ĶCloses fast on ball carriers and is always going for the big hit

Compares to: S Ryan Clarkâ€ĶPittsburgh Steelers

Round 3â€ĶPick 91
WR Ryan Swopeâ€ĶTexas A&M
6’â€Ķ200 lbs.
*Good size with a strong buildâ€ĶVery polished route runnerâ€ĶGreat handsâ€ĶDoesn’t have elite deep speed, but has deceptive speed and quicknessâ€ĶGreat candidate for any receiver position on the field, but looks more natural in the Slotâ€ĶGives a great effort as a blocker

Compares to: WR Austin Collieâ€ĶIndianapolis Colts

Round 4â€ĶPick 123
DE Joe Krugerâ€ĶUtah
6’7”â€Ķ280 lbs.
*Tall and lanky with long arms and a lot of room to add muscle...Very polished, technique oriented player who understands responsibilities and executesâ€ĶNot an elite athlete as far as speed and change of direction skills are concernedâ€ĶGets surprisingly good leverage for a man of his heightâ€ĶLooks like a promising 34 End prospect whose long arms and his ability to set the edge and hold at the POA will allow him to be a significant contributor down the road...Brother is Ravens OLB Paul Kruger.

Compares to: DE Aaron Smithâ€ĶPittsburgh Steelers

Round 4â€ĶPick 132 (Compensatory Pick)
ILB Michael Mautiâ€ĶPenn St.
6’2”â€Ķ240 lbs.
*Good size with a strong buildâ€ĶExcellent LB pedigree coming from PSU and compares favorably to names like Dan Connor, Sean Lee, Paul Posluszny, and NaVarro Bowmanâ€ĶGreat instincts with above average read/react skillsâ€ĶNot an elite athlete, but holds his own moving sideline to sidelineâ€ĶStrong enough to be effective against the run inside the boxâ€ĶAttacks the ball carrier rather than catching/dragging downâ€ĶUnderstands coverage and does well in zone, but hasn’t shown ability to stay with athletic TEs or Backs down the field in Manâ€ĶWould be a 2nd round pick if not for two significant knee injuries, but had a healthy and productive 2012 season.

Compares to: ILB Dan Connorâ€ĶDallas Cowboys

Round 5â€ĶPick 156
DT Jordan Hillâ€ĶPenn St.
6’1”â€Ķ295 lbs.
*Small, stout body with little room to add weightâ€ĶVery high effort, high motor playerâ€ĶGreat quickness off the snap and can knife through the gapsâ€ĶUnderstands how to use leverage that he naturally has with heightâ€ĶGood array of pass rush moves with bull rush, swim, and dip/ripâ€ĶDoes a great job shedding OL with violent handsâ€ĶEven next to Big 10 Def. Player of the Year Devin Still, he was the one who drew the double teams.

Compares to: DT Geno Atkinsâ€ĶCincinnati Bengals

Round 6â€ĶPick 190
FB Zach Borenâ€ĶOhio St.
6’â€Ķ250 lbs.
*Sledgehammer of a blockerâ€ĶVery strong and stoutâ€ĶVery assignment sureâ€ĶAlso played LB for OSUâ€ĶSurprising ability as a ball carrier.

Compares to: FB Ovie Mughelliâ€ĶFree Agent

Round 7â€ĶPick 225
DE Quanterus Smithâ€ĶWestern Kentucky
6’4”â€Ķ250 lbs.
*Led the nation in Sacks (including a whipping of Alabama’s All-American Tackles for 3 sacks) despite missing two gamesâ€ĶBig frame with long arms and room to add muscleâ€ĶBig time hustle player, never gives up on the playâ€ĶNeeds to get better as a run defenderâ€ĶRecovering from a torn ACL in December so may not even be ready for 2013 seasonâ€ĶSurprisingly polished pass rusher with a good array of movesâ€ĶDefinitely a project, but the boom far exceeds the bust.

UDFA:
QB Jordan Rodgersâ€ĶVanderbilt
6’1”â€Ķ205 lbs.

RB Specner Wareâ€ĶLSU
5’11”â€Ķ225 lbs.

WR Brandon Kaufmanâ€ĶEastern Washington
6’4”â€Ķ215 lbs.

OG Theo Goinsâ€ĶCentral Florida
6’4”â€Ķ315 lbs.

DT Kaleb Ramseyâ€ĶBoston College
6’3”â€Ķ302 lbs.

CB Marcus Cromartieâ€ĶWisconsin
6’â€Ķ180 lbs.

S Ray Ray Armstrongâ€ĶMiami (FL)
6’3”â€Ķ215 lbs.
I'd be good with that draft in a heartbeat. As far as Jordan Hill, I think the Packers could use a little more height on the Dline as well. You already have Daniels and Worthy in that same wheelhouse. I like the Krueger idea a bunch.

BTW . . . WHAT!?! NO RB IN THE FIRST ROUND! SHOULD DRAFT TWO RB IN THE FIRST AND SECOND!!! TRADE UP!!!
Rewatching the 2012 NFCC game...

Starks looks crazy good but wow does he have some holes to run through! Even B Jackson looked good (that move to freeze Urlacher never gets old). Same thing for the passing game: AR has time to survey the field and put the ball where he wants it. It's amazing how much better this offense looks with a good OL. The first drive of the game has 3 passes for 20+ yards and 2 big Starks gains.

I am slightly changing my mind on TT drafting a RB in the first 3 rounds. If he can pick up a top OL in RD1 and maybe another sleeper in RD3 or 4, this offense still has enough at the skill positions to be top 5-10. He does need a WR somewhere but OL nudges to the top of my wish list.

Kruger reminds me a little of Sean Jones of old. He could really maintain the edge and had some nice pass rush as well. Jones was 6'7 270
Of those options I would rather see Barrett Jones and Montee Ball. I think Lacy is a more physically gifted and more violent runner, but I think Ball is a true every down back. He's strong, he's patient, and most of all he's proven. He's got a lot more tread on his tires than Lacy, but I definitely think he has a lot left. Lacy runs higher and has taken more bad hits than Ball. The other part is the OLine factor. Ball had All-American OLinemen his first 3 years and there were doubts about whether the success was due to the back or the OL, but with all UW's new OL starters in 2012, I think Ball proved it was as much him as it was the OL. Lacy hasn't proven that at all as he has enjoyed All-American OLinemen all 3 years.
I just don't see a need for a RB. As mentioned, a great OL makes a good RB look great. When holes have been there, Harris has hit them hard. I have full confidence that a threesome including a combination of Harris, Benson, Green and Starks could be productive if the o-line opens some holes, I just don't have confidence that the OL can get the push they need.

I like the pick of Barrett Jones or Jonathon Cooper. EDS does not look like the long-term solution of center, and Lang did not look good this year (especially when considering his salary). Like pass rushers, you can never have too many good offensive lineman considering the injuries we've dealt with there the last few years.

Lacy reminds me of a poor man's Adrian Peterson. I'll probably get flamed for it, but they have similar violent running style, Lacy's just not as fast and strong (not even close). It'd be nice to get him but I'm in the camp of drafting front 7 on defense and offensive line. The 49ers are in the Super Bowl not because of their DB's or skill position players;' they're there because they have the best OL in the NFL and a front 7 that may also be the best.

I guess I'm not convinced that TT and MM share that opinion. Not sure where TT has Jones on his board and he might prove too enticing to pass up if he's there, but my guess is EDS gets another year to prove himself.

Perhaps it's the number, but Lacey reminds me of a faster and more explosive version of Brockington and I really like him, although don't see TT making the pick.
