Cut. I don't care if he becomes Jan Stenerud, not worth the jack.
Agree.
Which Packer place kicker holds the record for the most consecutive regular season FG's made ?
Jan Stenerud
Chris Jacke
Ryan Longwell
Mason Crosby
Chester Marcol

Considering the magnitude of the shanks that's a weak argument. Add in that god awful shanks at totally makeable ranges. He has the physical tools in spades, he just went full headcase last year.

Yep. An NFL kicker should do better than 63% kicking at the North Pole. Crosby was awful last season. No excuses.

He has 1 job and 1 job only. Kick the ball accurately.
I don't believe he had one miss that was simply short. All of them were long enough afaik.
Spirituality and Getting in the Groove
Says he studied all kickers last year (several leagues) and did an excell spreadsheet on their performances, saying 7 of Crosby's misses were from 50 yards or longer. This guy may end up kicking somewhere eventually.
Maybe the OCD Hobbit will strap on his garters, breathe through his eyelids and take the job from Crosby.
He was 28th in the league in FG% from 30-39 yards
25th in the league in FG% from 40-49 yards
32nd in the league over 50.
Perhaps the most stunning was that he made 54% last year indoors. Granted, he was 1/5 indoors above 50 which accounted for almost half his attempts, but still it's indoors.
Overall, he made 53% of his FGs on the road and 75% at Lambeau. It wasn't kicking at home that was a problem last year.

Time to bring back Longwell?
Brilliant plan.
I believe the Italiano kid will win the kicking job this year, its time he finally made a team and he will after showing the brass just how good he is.Crosby has already shown how bad he can be and the writings on the wall for him.
Tavecchio won't win the job. Crosby is a great kicker in August. His problems don't start until the games actually mean something.
The more I read this thread the more I picture a grizzled Police Captain standing behind his desk holding a cup of coffee with his sleeves rolled up screaming, "Will somebody tell me where the hell Tavecchio and Crosby are!"
I'm not sure of the numbers, but it seems to me Crosby missed some field goals at crucial times in some of the games last year. He definitely was a head case.
I don't know much about Tavecchio, but I did read he missed some crucial kicks in College.
The Packers need a guy that can focus when the pressure is at it's highest point.

Crucial kicks is a subjective stance.
In 2012 he was 8 of 11 in the 4th quarter. No attempts in the 4th quarter when within 7 points.
In the Packers last 7 games (2 of them playoff games) Crosby was 11 of 15 and a perfect 6 of 6 in their last 2 reg season games and 2 playoff games.
His issues were early to mid-season and he seemed to settle down later in the season.
Mistake...don't see a "delete" post...not an option anymore?
I thought "Garbage Can" was for old food scraps & old newspapers
For all the angst over the coaching staff not knowing when to start a backup, when to bench a starter, when to cut guys that aren't working out, etc...something should be said for them sticking with Crosby. Everybody wanted him gone, and for good reason. But he turned it around and the team has benefited from his return to kicking at a high level. Pretty damn impressive to be as solid as he was on sunday.
(a Bronx Cheer), Meh, he's been alright I guess.
If I remember right He had some key miss(es) in those first AR-less games and had at least 1 KO Out of bounds, the team psyche went down from there.
I don't think "everyone" wanted him gone.
You're right. I wanted him DEAD! DEAD I sez!
that is the only movie Cameron Diaz was attractive in
Everybody wanted him gone, and for good reason.

Ummmm.....according to the poll on the first page, 76% of the voters wanted the Packers to KEEP Crosby. Of course, the numbers wouldn't be so lopsided if voters wee required to furnish IDs before voting.
I want to acknowledge Mason Crosby moving into 2nd place on the Packers all time scoring list. With a productive last 3 games and a good 2014 he could overtake Ryan Longwell by next December. The difference today is 174 points.
