Flacco is playing out of his mind right now. That gives Baltimore a hell of a chance.
I would like to see the 49er Super Bowl record get a blemish on it.

No kidding. It seems like every single NFL game I watch, I sit there thinking over and over again, "Wow. Look at those holes." "Hey, how come their quarterback is just standing there instead of running for his life?"
It seems as though the offensive linemen from other teams actually get in the way of pass rushers and slow them down, and push people out of the way to open up running lanes for their backs. I think it's called "blocking," or something like that. Anyone ever hear of it? I think that's what the announcers called it. I wonder if there might be some way to teach our players how to do stuff like that. Anyone think that might work, or am I just talking crazy here?
Watching both games I have two points.
1. There is no way the NFL can have a team play a 16 game season. 1 or 2 playoff games. And have their entire season potentially swing on an inadvertant glancing hand to to the head of a QB. Change that rule ASAP. The rule as it's written is pure stupidity for the speed the game is played today.
2. I'll retract my thoughts about wanting an ILB in the 1st round after seeing Gonzalez and Boldin shred SF and NE even though they were double covered in both games. AR needs a go to guy when he needs 8 yards to move the chains. He either doesn't have that guy today or he doesn't trust the guy's he has today.

Make that delusional homer alert. Nobody with any football knowledge (even homers) think GB has a championship level defense at this time even with everyone healthy. Old man Capers can't do much when Thomposn hands him a crap sandwich roster of low draft picks. Unless many D changes are made, enjoy being this decade's version of the 80's SD Chargers.
What a dumb post. 2010 Super Bowl champs?
He worked so hard to erase the memories of that season
The 80's Chargers never won a Super Bowl.

Did you also think of Rodgers getting his facemask grabbed & yanked down with no call in Arizona? I did! Drive me nuts.

Well, we've been told many times that Nick Collins despite being gone for almost two seasons is a big reason for the defense's epic fails. And I've said letting Jenkins go without having anybody(s) ready to replace him is another big issue.
Add in an assortment of other injuries and this defense is not good at the moment and BB is on to something that this isn't a championship defense. The reason(s) for this are up to debate.

Didn't DuJuan Harris or one of the Packer RBs last week get his facemask pulled, but there was no penalty called because he was "in the grasp" or some other nonsense?
Looks like ATL's defense is as bad as the Pack.

Get healthy, continue to develop the young guys, get a break or two and they'll be there next year.

Enjoy being this decade's version of...well...the Bears. You know, piss poor coaches, piss poor QBs, and always getting your asses handed to you by the Packers. Of course you always have that '85 team to remember.

I agree with that sentiment.

Yes. The refs said something to the effect that the facemask infraction was "unintentional" and therefor not a penalty. So I guess from now players who get flagged for facemask calls just have to say they didn't mean to and the refs will pick up the flag.

Yup, couldn't agree more. I am sick of our offensive offensive line.

besides this worthy sentiment there's also this one for me: don't really want to see randy moss get a SB ring.
Moss may get it, but based on his play so far he won't have much say in it.
Not sure I saw this or if it has been commented on or if anyone else saw it. 4th down at the end of the game, Ryan threw a short pass over the middle, the D knocked down a not particularily good pass which would have been enough for a first down. Everyone saw that. Reply was shown a couple of times and in one shot it showed what appeared to be a wide open Falcon rcvr in the end zone. Note I said appeared, the commentators to my memory did not comment on this.
A couple of minutes later they focused in on Tony Gonzales sitting on the bench. looking dejected, and from my lip reading attempt he seemed to say "wide open".
Has there been any discussion about this? Did Matty Ice freeze up again? Was Tony G wide open in the end zone for a potential game winning td?

couldn't tell you if he was open but I thought to myself when it was 4th and 4 that I didn't have any faith in Matty to pull it off.

I agree with that sentiment.
And Randy Moss remain ringless.

Nope, I stand by it. You can hair split if you want if 2010 was this decade or last decade but going forward from there how's that defense working out for you? 2 straight years of running up regular season stats and some wins by simply running up big offensive numbers that are enough to overcome the subpar defense then get punked out of the playoffs when it matters. And no a virtual bye against the Webb QB'd Queens doesn't count either. A bunch of non-playoff teams could have done that. So to sum up, a team that racks up big regular season stats and wins solely by offense (and almost entirely from the QB), a weak defense that fails when it counts. The 80s Chargers comparison is spot on.
Who knows how it will turn out? I do recall that after the SB win there was much talk about a GB dynasty, perhaps winning 2, 3 or even more in the next few yrs. Still time for those predictions to come true but I for one am not as opptomistic as I once was. I know folks here seem to think a bit of tinkering and good luck will suffice, me? I see lots of holes and plenty of work to be done.
Sorry, it's not, there's still that pesky Super Bowl Championship that sinks your boat.

Heard a little about this P P. It seems Ryan had seperated his left shoulder on a play and did not have the strength to throw the pass into the endzone. I doubt if Gonzales knew this at the time of the play or right after as he was sitting on the bench.

Wow. Talk about living in a glass house.
This is probably a waste of time saying it to you but, our O was up and down this year and there were games where the D stepped up to win some games. And in case you haven't noticed any of the other 100 threads discussing what's wrong with our D, I think we're all quite aware of what needs addressing in the offseason. Einsteen.

...they still gave up 200 yards less of total offense than we did to SF
ATL could have and should have won that game. Their D played well enough. But Matt Ryan...

It appeared Gonzales came open at the same time as Ryan through the ball. The pass would have been 4 or 5 yards further than what he threw. It would have been exactly the same line as he threw. The strength issue is BS. If that is the case, he should have went to the bench.
