If Murphy gets his way, it'll be the either the first home game or the Bears game, if Thompson and McCarthy were to get their way (they won't), I'd guess they'd pick the Vikings, just to make it more awkward for Favre and rub some salt into the wound.

I was thinking the same thing.  I don't think it matters for most teams (TB, ATL, CAR, BUF, NYJ, ARI, STL, JAX, BAL, CIN, CLE, IND, TEN, etc.) , but the high profile teams/stadiums (GB, DAL, NEP, NO, PHI, PIT, CHI), where fans are nationwide and want to come in for one game, it really is difficult to plan around.

The Thursday night game blows for those of us with Gold tickets that have to travel. 2 Days of Vacation and no hotel rooms. The hotels are all in full gouge mode with the NFL announcing the release of the schedule. Rooms are listed at $359 and up a night. Will have to drive up to Door County after the game and stay with Family.

Can't figure out why they'd have eleven 1pm games and only two 4PM games the first week.

I believe CBS still has the US Open tennis for one more year, with the women's final being at 4:30 PM Sunday, which is why CBS doesn't have any late games in Week 1.

Pretty generous schedule, imho.  Sure, the opener will be tough, but we need tough games to get tougher ourselves.  Plus, it would be great to start by getting revenge for the Fail Mary fiasco.

I'm glad the bye is later, but it always seems to be on my birthday weekend, which does not make Wulffy a happy old curmudgeon.  Selfish?   Yes, I am.  Get used to it.  I also thought ending last year with all those division games made for great drama, and I was thinking they would do it again.  Guess not.

12 win season!   I'm calling it right now!

Don't like a road game after a Monday Nighter but being it is Buffalo I guess it can't get much better than that.

Also a bye and a home game after Sunday night games are pretty good. And a home game for the 2nd Thursday game is pretty sweet too.  Nice little mini bye after week 5.

The Raiders play the rest of the AFC West (three playoff teams) and I believe the NFC West.  You'll note that all eight teams with the "most difficult" schedules based on last year's records are from those two divisions.

I have never seen this before.  They also did it in 1993?  I thought it was a network contract thing where the network covering the AFC would get the Lions game every other year and the Cowboys every other year.

That is really odd it is all NFC.

I like at Seattle on Thursday for the first game.  I figure teams are not yet in synch that early and with the Hawks being so physical, nice to have some time off after.  And of course, a team isn't hurt by Thursday night for the first week.

I am not big on back to back road games followed by a Thursday night game, but at least the road games are not real far away and that Thursday nighter is against a crappy opponent.

CBS covered the NFC in 1993 before they lost it to FOX (CBS was the network that originally had the NFL, NBC had the AFL and later the AFC).

How did the Packers get picked to open the season against the Seahawks?

Peter King tells the story:

The league obviously thought a Denver-Seattle opener was risky—based on the outcome of the Super Bowl. Those are my words, not theirs. “We thought there were three likely possibilities for the opener: San Francisco, Denver and Green Bay,” Katz said. “I guess we could’ve played Dallas, but we really liked Dallas for the FOX doubleheader for Week 1. Dallas also had Texas Rangers conflicts the first month of the season. Putting them on the road in Week 1 might have doomed them for four or five road games in the first few weeks. I thought we had a better place to use the San Francisco-Seattle game, because it has become such an incredibly great rivalry game. It seemed to us that saving that game for later in the season on NBC was probably a smarter move. Green Bay felt right.” The move also left Peyton Manning to kick off the Sunday night season with the Broncos. Against Andrew Luck and his old friends, the Colts.

I went ahead out of curiosity and compared the SOS for 2013 between the projections based on 2012 records, and the final SOS calculation based on how the season played out pulled from ESPN's Playoff Standings. Things change in the NFL in one season.

It's remarkable that the NFL (apparently) has fostered this new  'cooperation' between the networks. I'm guessing there was some bitching from the networks being stuck with the dog games, and I'm sure there are some financial incentives involved, but it should work well for all involved.

Maybe....just maybe.....this will work best for us fans.

It has everything to do with ratings. It has nothing to do with "Green Bay felt right".

Seattle / Denver was never in the running. The NY Giants or Cowboys had a better shot at opening vs. Seattle than Denver did.

It was always between SF & Green Bay.

Putting SF & Seattle on Thanksgiving evening works very well. That makes the opener obvious.

Fail Mary II.

Bet the Packers heavy....you'll laugh all the way to the bank

One of the NFL schedule personnel was on Chris Russo's show yesterday and was talking about how networks are apprehensive about being given Seattle home games in the primetime slots. The reason being Seattle was putting the wood to teams at home last year and the networks are concerned about having to carry a blowout.

Two thoughts, GB isn't getting blown out. Really good shot at winning that game in fact. And second, When the f**k did Seattle become a mythical NFL superpower to the point people are talking about them with reverence and fear??? They lost to Arizona at home in week 16 last year. They needed OT to beat Tampa after trailing 21-0 at home.

Well, that is one big damn impressive body of work for the networks to get their panties in a knot that the 2014 Seattle Seahawks may very well be a budding force of nature.

I'm a little surprised a guy from the NFL said it. I do think the NFL will go to great lengths to avoid blowouts at all cost for the primetime slots. If the NFL is putting teams like Seattle in 4 primetime games this year because they want to capitalize on ad money and ratings, I get it. If they put Seattle on the road for 3 of them because they've somehow convinced themselves a game in Seattle will result in a blowout then that's a whole other bag of issues and questions about potentially screwing teams over self induced phobias.

Damnit. I was trying to get in at +5.5. After the draft it'll probably drop to +2.5.

I know this much, the Packers aren't getting blown out however, they might blowout the Seahawks

Holy crap! I know we always travel well down there...but Daaaammmnnn!!!

That game will be the division clincher for the Packers to once again take the NFC North throne!
