No getting around it. There was a time when Greg Jennings was really effing good. Like "one of the 5 best WRs in the NFL" good. Jordy is pretty fly for a white guy.

Through the first six seasons of his career, Jennings was averaging 1K yds and 8 TDs a season, even though he played sparingly his rookie year.  There is a good argument that he was on his way to a HOF career, especially if he could have played with #12 the whole time.  But the man had to chase the money.  He chose cash over rings, an amazing legacy in the world's best football town, and the opportunity to reach Canton.  I hope it was worth it.

Didn't Jennings get offered a better deal to stay in GB than he got with the vikings?

As I recall Jennings got offered less but still decent money: $8 mill a year instead of $11 mill, or something like that. Irony is that he didn't see the full money in Minny as he didn't last.

Irvin also produced on a primarily run-first team. I don't think he should be in the HOF, but he has a better case than several WRs of this pass-heavy era. Irvin is a HOF talent, with a good resume, that probably shouldn't be in the HOF. It's not about quantity, it's about quality. Drew Brees has produced at a HOF level, but his production is quantity over quality, not a HOFer IMO.

I'd say Brees is in Dan Fouts territory so HOF isn't out of the question.  Plus he won as many Superb Owls as Bert.

Here’s a good look at the evolution of personnel in the game, and how some teams have turned to bigger bodies on offense to combat the shift to smaller, faster guys on defense. This offseason suggests the Packers are following the trend on each side of the ball, so it will definitely be something interesting to follow in camp.

There’s a quote from Schwartz about how tough a 3 TE set can be to defend against, and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say GB is better suited to try out this wrinkle than any team in football if they so choose.

Lock!

Packers offense is currently beating the ever loving **** out of the Packers defense at Jordy's charity softball game. 15-1 at last check. So nothing new going on there.

Its not confirmed but I think it's a given the defense is being coached by Dom today.

Packers defense hung tough and fought back valiantly but gave up a walk off bomb to Dick Rodgers. 27-25 offense.

It writes itself.

Actually, the offense was leading 18 to 3 and they changed scores with the defense.

They then out scored the defense 24 to 7 to win.

But,you are right, it does write itself..

Dick was sprinting on the walk off.

How could you tell?

Bold prediction: If healthy this defense will be a top 10 unit, maybe top 5. It's full of talent, only thing holding it back will be health.

Er no. More like:

I don't mind owning it if by season's end I'm dead wrong, but I don't think that will happen. We have the pieces on D to contend barring dramatic injuries like last season (like losing top 3 players at a single position for extended time). The only difference between this D and the 2010 D, talent wise, is Charles Woodson. We won't ever have another Woodson though.

But that's always the story with this team and often the story with most contending teams that can't reach Feb.  Gotta stay healthy.

That said, they seem to be crossing their fingers at OLB.  Either or both of their starters gets dinged and they're in trouble on the edges because I don't see Fapwell or Jaymo providing much other than relief snaps.

I don't see any way for this to be a top-5 defense, top half, sure, but I don't think there are enough difference makers or depth to be a top-5 unit. For that to happen:

Matthews and Perry need to basically stay healthy all year and produce close to their best seasons. Fackrell, Biegal and Elliot need to get about 8-10 sacks between them in their snaps.

They need to cover well from the "linebacker" spot as well as the defensive backfield spots. If Jones can perform like a competent veteran and Burnett stays healthy this might be possible, but that's a lot more "if".

The defensive line needs to also stay healthy. If Daniels goes down, asking Clark to pick up the slack is a pretty tall order.

Will the young DBs produce without too many glaring errors? This one has a decent shot of happening.

There are always injuries, so it's not "if" but "when", "who" and "for how long?"
