No getting around it. There was a time when Greg Jennings was really effing good. Like "one of the 5 best WRs in the NFL" good. Jordy is pretty fly for a white guy.

Through the first six seasons of his career, Jennings was averaging 1K yds and 8 TDs a season, even though he played sparingly his rookie year.  There is a good argument that he was on his way to a HOF career, especially if he could have played with #12 the whole time.  But the man had to chase the money.  He chose cash over rings, an amazing legacy in the world's best football town, and the opportunity to reach Canton.  I hope it was worth it.

Canton? C'mon now. He was really good, but he wasn't Canton bound.

Why not?  Again, look at the numbers he posted in his first six years with the Packers.  What if he keeps up the same rate for another 4-6 years?  That puts him with 10K-12K yds and 80-96 TDs.  Perhaps he helps us add another ring during that time (considering how many times we've been close).  Other WRs have made the HOF or are in the annual HOF conversation with similar numbers.

Good WR + HOF QB = Ability to Win & Produce = HOF Potential

I'm not saying he was going to be a slam dunk, but he could have made a good argument (primarily because he was playing with AR12).

Assuming Jennings continued to get anywhere near the 1000/8 per year for another 4-6 years after he had that injury and hit his 30's is realllllly optimistic.  Even with AR, GJ would have seen more reps going to 87, et. al.  Following your argument, had he reached your numbers for 4-6 more years, he wouldn't have had a case just on numbers, he would have had a case on consistency over many years which is very rare for WR's.  Another reason he would have had difficulty getting into the hall (vs Irvin) is there are a lot more WR candidates (lots of stats) today than there were in Irvin's day.  The committee has had to be more selective lately because of the league being more and more geared toward passing.

Irvin also produced on a primarily run-first team. I don't think he should be in the HOF, but he has a better case than several WRs of this pass-heavy era. Irvin is a HOF talent, with a good resume, that probably shouldn't be in the HOF. It's not about quantity, it's about quality. Drew Brees has produced at a HOF level, but his production is quantity over quality, not a HOFer IMO.
