Dammit. Every potential pick just moved up 1 spot in line while this jackass heads to the bottom of round 2. Some teams are going to take his name off their boards entirely. Idiot.

I don't know... the whole re-sign Guion after pot trouble seemed out of character for this front office.  it made me wonder just how much coaching staffs know about players and whether the attitude is, or already has, changed inside the locker rooms.  so let's not hold a little pot trouble against the kid.

I don't think he slips too much.  He wasn't arrested; he was cited.  And seeing as the stuff is well on it's way to being legal in all 50 states within the next 10-15 years, it's not a huge concern, at least for me.  Of course he is an idiot for speeding with weed in his car the week of the draft, but I doubt it changes his draft stock more than a few picks (if that).

And since we're on the topic, I do think Gregory falls but not for his drug test as much as it is his lack of size.  Sub 230 lb. pass rushers do not last in this league.  Just ask Aaron Maybin.

Yeah if a team really wants Ray or Gregory then a little weed isn't going to make a difference...for teams on the fence or that had them graded equally to a much cleaner prospect then it could be the deciding factor to go in another direction. A team like Atlanta that is probably considering a pass rusher vs. LT vs. RB may decide Ray or Gregory aren't worth the headache and go with a cleaner prospect like Scherff or Peat.  Any team that drafts Gregory will have to be patient with him because of his size. If you're wanting a guy to start from day 1 I doubt he's your guy, but in a year or two after bulking up a little and learning the ropes he could be a terror. Whoever takes him better have a starter because relying on him would be a mistake.
The name of the game is sack the QB.

If the make it to round 2, the Jags or one of the teams in the top 7-10 picks of round 2 will take them.

Could be Green Bay with a trade down from #30

Chili for the win

And what this does is invite even more scrutiny into his past. And what they often find is that its not an isolated incident...and that raises even more red flags.

The draftees and NFL players also have to wake up to the fact that these aren't just random pull-overs either. Teams will invest in a P.I. to tail a kid- a wise move before investing millions and a precious draft pick. The cops/investigators have license plate readers in every car, Stingray cell-phone signal-stealers and other means of electronic surveilance

They can all read Facebook Instagram and twitter too. These players are being targeted, poked and prodded behind the scenes with as much fervor as they are at the combine to assess their physical traits.

NFL teams have stationed spies at college bars to see how these guys behave. Nothing is off limits and the background checks that are done now are more invasive than ever before.

They enter into the NFL in stage 1 which means instead of 1 test a year- they are getting tested several times/month. That's a bad bet with a guy like Gregory who couldn't even stop for 1 month before the combine.

Although NFL front offices and coaches would prefer their guy's lay off the weed, it's not realistic. It's pretty common in the NFL. The reason it's pretty common is the bargained drug testing for weed. A good analogy would be a DUI checkpoint in the Mojave desert with warning signals starting about 60 miles out.

If a a guy fails a test when he's in the NFL. If a guy fails a test at the combine. If a guy is caught speeding carrying weed 3 days before the draft and he's a projected first rounder. He is:

1. A complete ****ing moron.

2. Losing to an addiction.

Neither of those options is worthy of risking a 1st or 2nd round pick.

The 1 thing I'll say  is the rookie salary cap has now allowed teams to take a chance.

The biggest key is figuring out where the players are slotted on the other 31 teams boards.

But you're right....it's a gigantic red flag.

STAY AWAY!

I think it really depends on the player and how talented he is. Teams are being very forgiving with Jameis Winston, there's a lot of red flags with that guy. Shane Ray is a really good player, but he's not good enough to overcome this kind of NFL scrutiny apparently. Teams will forgive character flaws/red flags to a point, if Jadaveon Clowney had this same incident happen I guarantee he still goes #1.

I'm not so sure. I know QB desperation runs amok, but I'd have taken Ray over Winston and still might. I don't think Ray will slide that far. Nobody wants to be teh team that passed on a Warren Sapp or even a Randy Moss, despite the fact they're turds.

If ANYONE knows how to apply for this job please let me know.  I have decades of experience!

Ok, Ben Roethlisberger. Your application is carefully being considered

The so called experts are all over the map on Ray, some say a drop of a couple of slots, others as far as the 3rd round.....should be very interesting.  As others have said, it is not the weed, it is the lack of judgement, the immaturity , the stupidity of doing this days before millions are in your pocket.    The moral is, smoke em if Ya got em.....at home.

With the rookie pool/cap, it really doesn't matter where a player was picked. Just show up on Sunday and play like you mean it.

But don't be a dummass first.

I'm draftable.

My measurables are perfect for ILB.  6' 2" 235 pounds and I look great in my underwear.  You can catch the ball race to my feet.  Lefty just pulled ahead.

The police would like to speak with potential 1st round pick La'el Collins about a recent homicide of a pregnant woman.

"We are consistently pursuing getting in touch with him, not as a suspect, but to ask him questions about the victim"

I'm no ****ing Columbo but the green room in Chicago Thursday night might be a good place to start looking for him.

Nothing would make draft night more special than Baton Rouge police tazing Collins right as he's about to french kiss Goodell.

Yeah leaves the 15.8 40 time out how convenient.

Ted Thompson seems to have placed special emphasis on age for players on the first 2 days of the draft at positions where speed is important

Look at recent picks of players 21 and under: Randall Cobb, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Devante Adams. Go back a little further, Finley.

@BrianCarriveau

Players 21 and under that could interest the on the first 2 days include WR Funchess, OLB Harold, ILB Alexander & CB Carter.

Well ****, I just added Hank to the consensus board but made a fundamental mistake of not asking for a 40 time.  Not sure anyone has a good enough bubble to make up for being that slow.
