Didn't mean to offend, I know it's a sensitive subject. Now that the shit stain of Trubisky is gone, I'm firing up more troll game. Slowly this time. Looking to bend a few hearts along the way. Will hit up the other thread.

Fan187...    As in wrestle at 187?

@RapSheet: It’s not just Aaron Rodgers: The #Packers and star WR Davante Adams have broken off long-term extension talks. There are no current plans to resume them. The two sides have been negotiating for months, but they are now in a bad place, sources say. First the QB, now the No. 1 WR.

Unlike QBs, long-term contract extensions to WRs (and RBs) in their 30s don't usually end well. Greg Jennings was done as an elite WR by about age 29. Jordy Nelson was done at 31. The Falcons wanted out of Julio Jones' contract this year and he's 32.

People always want their teams to be more like the Patriots. Belichick moves on from his elite players all the time. Brady won a title last year and could still play, but he wasn't going to win in New England with their cap situation last year and BB moved on. He'd probably do it again.

This is what the Packers' FO has been working towards for 2-3 years. They intended to reset the team in 2022. D. Adams counts 16 million against the cap in 2021. If they lose him, they'll get a 3rd round pick in 2023 and 16 million in cap space. Rodgers, Z. Smith, P. Smith, and Amos are all under contract for 2022 for a total of 100 million dollars. They have about 40 million in dead cap costs if they move on from them (which could be split over 2 years) so they save 76 million in cap space if they move on from Adams, Rodgers, the two Smiths, and Amos. In 2022 these guys turn 30, 39, 30, 30, and 29 years old respectively. They've been setting this scenario (one last shot) for years and they are going to stick to it. It's a very Patriots approach. They plan to have a mediocre year in 2022 while Love learns the ropes, maybe get another comp pick for Adams, end up getting picks for Rodgers and maybe the others, and then plan on ramping up from those picks in 2023, and then be a title contender again in 2024. It makes good business sense, but it's hard as a fan and it's pissed Rodgers off to no end because it looks like the Packers played him all along (not expecting them to draft his replacement so soon).

Except those guys make you title contenders right now and they risk it on the plan for the future believing they'll get the same results.

They are literally throwing away a chance at a Super Bowl now to force Love into place.

The good business part comes in if you know you don't have enough surrounding pieces to make those contracts worthwhile.  The Packers are couple moves away on defense and they have a legit chance over the next couple of years.

If they go ahead with this numbskull plan they are literally throwing away legit opportunities to win it all on a fucking ego project that may completely fail.  But if their two biggest stars that make the offense run are fucking sick of the asshole FO clowns probably scrapping the fucking team makes sense.

Same song and dance we've heard multiple times with other contract negotiations. Wake me when Adams isn't on the roster in '22. Laremy Tunsil's outlier contract wasn't going to be a factor at all in Bakhtiari's contract, but shockingly it was considered and DB is the highest paid LT.

The idea that GB is digging in their heals and refuses to make a player the highest paid at their position simply doesn't fit the track record of this FO (or their predecessor). Rodgers, Bakh, Clark (for NTs), Bulaga, Z Smith, A. Jones, Amos, P Smith, CM3, Peppers, and many more were all paid in the top 10, top 5, or highest paid at their position at the time of signing. They pay players. I mean jesus we just saw rumor reporting GB offered to make Rodgers the highest paid player in the league, and people really think that what they're just tightwads? These motherfuckers have been tossing around competitive deals to their guys for 3 years. I don't think GB is willing to splurge on a deal like this until Rodgers situation has clarity. They like to push money in the first couple years and much of GB's cap is tied up in Rodgers this year and next.

As you probably know from other posts, I agree with you on this. They have as good a chance of winning the Super Bowl as anyone this year if everyone was back and focused. The front office determined that Rodgers was on the decline and that this would continue. Instead, he had his best year yet. They probably still feel a decline is coming and that 2020 is probably the last hurrah given his age, but they aren't going to say that. The FO has decided they'd rather optimize their chances to be competitive for the rest of the decade than go all-in now and then crater when the cap charges all come due (likely what will happen to the post-Brees Saints, the post-Brady Bucs, and potentially the Patriots if last year becomes the norm).

You and I would rather have them sell out a bit more to win now. Unfortunately, if you don't win now, winning 3-4 games a year from 2023-25 or so gets you fired if you are Gutey and MLF. Winning 12 games this year and next but not the Super Bowl, and also winning 8-10 in 2023-25 keeps you employed.

Sadly, Murphy is more than happy with that because it keeps revenue coming in.  That's the criticism of the Packers organization I continue to hear as well.  Always safe, always sticking to convention.  At some point as a fan you have to call bullshit.  Convention works if you have an amazing FO with incredible talent evaluators.  Gunt is decent enough and honestly, I like Hendrickson more but not sure what they have left after the exodus to the Browns.  If Murphy and Ball are dicking around in the personnel decisions that pretty much destroys relying on scouting talent.

Apparently, 2020 was the FO's "all in" year.  I'm resting my hopes on Rodgers taking it to an absurd level as a walk off homer.

Except all those guys will play in 2021 with shot for a Super Bowl now. So, literally, throwing nothing away.

That's a big if with no reason to give it credibility.

Ball was already fucking around with personnel when TT was on the downside.  Murphy not seeing WTF was going on was just one of many failures that turd has under his belt.  Ball didn't throw his hat into the GM ring on a lark.

Considering this new nebulous "silos of triangular failure" those two mutts are part of the personnel process is just as likely as not.

Not to defend Ball, but wasn't that just rumor though? We don't actually know Ball did anything. For all we know it was Murphy or Gute making decisions on TT's behalf. I think Wolf was Director of Football Ops wasn't he? That role is essentially the #2 to the GM, it makes more sense that he was stepping in and fucking shit up which is why he didn't get the big job and hasn't gotten a significant job elsewhere since leaving. He and Highsmith were kind of the senior guys, they got sent packing. Makes as much sense that those two schmucks were wheeling and dealing behind the scenes without anyone knowing.

So you think Rodgers and Adams are done as players after 2021?  Completely washed up?  Love is just going to step in and Otto QB the genius offense to a Super Bowl?  Nevermind they'll have to draft a shit ton of D players again after Amos and Smith bro contracts are up.

The idea of a window is to keep it open for as long as feasibly possible, not open it long enough to squeeze out a fart and then close it.

Sure seems to be working out pretty well for the Browns.

Clickbait Rag

Ball has spent more and more time working with Thompson on personnel and, according to sources, attends draft meetings with the scouts in the offseason. Thompson and Ball make all the tough contract and departmental decisions together, not always with the knowledge of the entire personnel team.

No. No.

We're talking about now, 2021. We can talk about '22 in a little over 7 months.

The difference was Thompson, the best evaluator in the room, was still there to make sure the draft decisions were sound. Ball has been sitting in on draft meetings in recent years, but it’s not the same as going out on the road and scouting players for yourself, something Gutekunst and Wolf have been doing their entire careers.
