Risky move for House. If he stays healthy, that contract might work our well for them.
vs Bulaga, where if he stays healthy, Green Bay knows it will work out well for them.

Time for Hyde to move up.
Congrats Davon. Enjoy Jacksonville
Now he can afford to live in Kiel's neighborhood
Reminder: tell my daughter to watch out for the partying dude with all the new bling and cases of DP.
Time for Hyde to move up.
I wouldn't think so
Hyde's game is slot corner/safety/ILB - playing on the inside & supporting the run in dime
He doesn't really have the speed to play outside, which is why he lasted into the 5th round
Add perimeter CB to the list of draftable dudes
It is always on the list
I heard House made the move to save on income taxes....
And boom. TT rules
The #Packers are expected to keep OT Bryan Bulaga, source says. They are closing in on a deal. High priority for them.

$10mm guaranteed? That's a lot for House.
Would be nice to keep Tramon now but reports are he wants 4 years. Maybe Thompson can structure a 4 year deal to where they can cut him after 2 with little cap implication. Or, if he remains effective in year 3 his cost is on the (significantly) lower end of the Packers overall payroll.
I heard House made the move to save on income taxes....
Only on 8 home games and the occasional year they play Tampa Bay, otherwise likely no savings especially when they play in NY and MA.
@WesHod: Also, the #Packers have given safety Chris Banjo his exclusive-rights tender.
Probably the teams on his wish list. Dude is chasing a championship.
At this point, why wouldn't he?
Taking care of business.
@RobDemovsky: The #Packers have given OL Don Barclay the low RFA tender, worth $1.542 million, per his agent Joe Linta.
Still not done.
@Rand_Getlin: Source: Though discussions are on-going, OT Bryan Bulaga's ultimate deal should come in, roughly, around the $7M per year mark.
The fact that Devon House was viewed as a big potential FA acquisition and then given over $6 million/season shows how inept most NFL front offices actually are. Simply amazing.
i dont get the angst that some are reporting that the Packers dont want to exceed certain contract in fear of hurting another players feelings. So what if Bulaga gets more, Sitton has a new deal coming up n two years and will probably get more at that time. Shields got more than Tramon without Tramons production. It is just the nature of the NFL and always has been. High Rookie draftees always were paid more than veterans. I doubt Ted got all worked up over having to give Cobb more money than Jordy.

Huh???
"otherwise likely no savings"... except 7.65% on over half of your income.
I'd call that significant savings.
8 homes games plus games at the Texans and at the Titans every year, both in states with no income tax. So 10 guaranteed tax free games per year vs Packers players who have to play in WI, MN, IL and MI every year.
$6.25M x .625 (for 10 of 16 games) x 7.65% (WI tax)= $298,828.12 per year.
"otherwise likely no savings" except for almost $300k more dollars per year.
If a player put that extra $200k-300k into a retirement account every year, think of how much better off he'd be in 30 years than the player who paid that same money in to taxes.
300K when you make 6.25 million is a drop in the bucket. Just think, for 300K you get the opportunity to lose most of your games.
Hmmm
Speaking of #Packers… what about BJ Raji? I’m told he’s weighing offers. Preference is to return, but definitely no sure thing now.

Would like to see Raji return, but won't lose any sleep if he doesn't. Plenty of capable big bodies available in free agency and the draft.
It'll be interesting to see if Raji gets any bites. Coming off that major injury and 2 sub par years before that, hard to imagine he would. But then again never underestimate stoopid owners.
Hopefully he is taking care of weighing himself.

BARELY!
300K when you make 6.25 million is a drop in the bucket.
Rong.
Tell me that when you've made $6.25M. When you start writing checks to the IRS with 5 or 6 zeros to the left of the decimal point.
$300k is $300k. Especially when you think about it per year for a multi-year contract. It matters.
If it meant the difference between winning and losing? I would take 300k less.
At this point, why wouldn't he?
More power to him. He is giving money away to achieve this purpose.
For House, I think it was more about being a starting CB somewhere else vs being a ST player in GB.

Probably a negotiating tactic.

298K? Don't you and Kiel use that for toilet paper every month?

REALLY? Now I understand why lottery winners go broke 95% of the time.
298K? Don't you and Kiel use that for toilet paper every month?
$300k is the Grey Poupon budget.
Davon House would save $1 - 3 million in housing costs by choosing a cheaper state
That dwarfs the $250k in income taxes
Beer, pizza, gas, property taxes, local taxes, sales tax, sunshine tax all play a role in the final costs.
Single data-point decisions are stupid, and anybody dumb enough to choose their future and their team based on the 7% income tax benefit instead of the 93 % paycheck deserves what they get.
Taxes aren't The Decider . Get a decent accountant, stash some cash and the taxes are irrelevant to a very good life in a place of your choosing.
He's going to clear $250k/ month for the next 60 months of his life
If you let taxes choose your future, you're a ****ing idiot.
( IMO, JIHMO, PEEMO, BOBEEMO )
It's .05% of salary for no shot at a ring.
He could make up the 300K with playoff checks.
If someone made 50k, the same % would be 2500. Would you move to an armpit for $2500?
For House, I think it was more about being a starting CB somewhere else vs being a ST player in GB.
Like I said earlier, he left to become a starter. The tax thing is just a bonus, but it is not insignificant.
BTW, EC Pack it is 5% not .05%
You know you have some depth when other teams are willing to pay your 4th CB (depending on how you rank Heyward and House) 6 million a year and guarantee him 10 million total.
It seems like the requirement to spend money is going to cause Oakland, Jacksonville, and a few other teams to throw some stupid money at guys you can easily find in the 3rd-5th round of the draft every year. House is just a guy. I don't see Andrew Luck quaking in his boots worrying about how he's going to deal with House. As high as the money is for Suh or for Revis, at least they are Hall of Fame level players.
just like your and my paychecks, the number reported isn't the number you see in your bank account. 6.8 million, even in an income tax free state is not 6.8 million.
The point about endorsements is another issue. It's why guys still want to play in NY, when you can make up for that income tax by being more marketable to the locals.
Or you can be in Green Bay, where you are marketable to the world (said in a Mr. Burns voice)
298K? Don't you and Kiel use that for toilet paper every month?
$300k is the Grey Poupon budget.
Damnit....still struggling to get over that 64k hump
PackerJoe, liked your contract numbers for Bulaga. There may need to be some flexibility built into the base because it could be viewed as a 2 year contract. Again, not that bad an idea considering injury history, but I'd just as soon see him locked up for at least 4 years.
You and H5 are right about Tramon. There has to be money available, now and in the future to work a 4 year deal. It would likely have to be more on the front-loaded side to allow an 'out' after 2 years or so, but, again, I'd just as soon take a chance on his production.
He was one of the best CBs in the league--by far--before his shoulder injury. Of course, that doesn't mean he can/will return to that level, but he's smart enough to do it. Seattle playoff game notwithstanding, he was playing much better than Shields over the last half of the season.
Damn you other guys! I was told there would be NO math!
Reminder: tell my daughter to watch out for the partying dude with all the new bling and cases of DP.

Of course not.
I used 50% of the gross in my calculations, he's still clearing $250k/ month
And I was wrong about the 60 months; he may not see all of that contract due to injury or skill.
