John Schneider's no dummy.
@RapSheet: The #Packers have said they want DL Letroy Guion back, but he did visit the #Seahawks today, source said #intrigue
@RobDemovsky: Can confirm @RapSheet's report of Letroy Guion visit to Seahawks. Was told it was set up immediately after legal case was settled. #Packers
Gotta love the sign language interpreter on the stage....it's a great country!
@TomSilverstein: NT deals should leave #Packers at between $16M and $17M under the salary cap with Bush, Lattimore and Kuhn left to sign. Rookies maybe $6M

The DL is better going into camp than we were a year ago. Linebacker is the only place this team has a potential hole.
Way to go ted.
This team is stacked at every single position but ILB and CB. No way in hell this team doesn't get to Super Bowl 50 if they can fix at least one of those two positions in the draft and stay healthy.
A two down lineman front is an interesting approach.
We just signed 'em.
Injuries will make things interesting.

Bush deserves 15 million of that money.
DL is still a need. In 2016 Raji, Guion, and Daniels will all be free agents. Only one of them is worth investing in long term.
Draft and develop in preparation for 2016.
No, I am not holding my breath but if GB can get anything out of Thornton he'll have an opportunity to get at least get some rotational duties to keep Jones, Daniel, Boyd a little fresher.
He showed essentially nothing in TC in 2014 but then again Letroy G didn't either and that worked out surprisingly well.
D-line looks solid with Daniels, Guion, Raji, D. Jones & Boyd. If either Pennel or Thornton develop, group could go from solid to very good.
Here's some commentary on Thornton from Trgovac via Jason Wilde:
http://www.espnwisconsin.com/c...=19901&is_corp=1
"Even with old hands like Raji and Guion back in the fold, those youngsters will have to grow up, starting now. And perhaps no one more so than Thornton, who along with Pennel would seem to be next man up behind Guion and Raji"
“Let me put it this way: He’s done everything he can do in the offseason and not playing,” Trgovac said of Thornton in December. “Obviously, the ideal [situation] would be to be on the field, getting instruction, getting individual work, getting fundamental work. Obviously, he can’t do that, but he’s taken advantage of everything he can do in the weight room and the classroom and all the things he can do with his body, being a guy from a mid-sized school.
“He’s done everything that we’ve asked him to do. If you had your druthers, you’d like to have him on the field, but he’s not on the field, so either don’t do anything and wait for the next year or you take advantage of this offseason year, and I think he’s done a nice job of taking advantage of the things he can control.”
You'll know by November or December if he can play at this level, not 4 years from now.
Pair of Iowa DL could be good options for GB in 2015 draft
Pretty good read IMO. Lord knows IC is already salivating...

As the Packer's GM, Ted has drafted more players from Iowa. If you also count the draft's he ran with the Seahawks, then it's a tie between Iowa and Colorado.
Iowa = 4 (Bryan Bulaga=1, Abdul Hodge=3, Mike Daniels=4, Micah Hyde=5)
Colorado = 4 (David Bakhtiari=4, D.J. Hackett=5, Mason Crosby=6, Brad Jones=7)
California = 3 (Aaron Rodgers=1, Richard Rodgers=3, Desmond Bishop=6)
Louisville = 3 (Brian Brohm=2, Jason Spitz=3, Breno Giacomini=5)
UCLA = 3 (Datone Jones=1, Johnathan Franklin=4, Craig Bragg=6)
Purdue = 3 (Mike Neal=2, Niko Koutouvides=4, Craig Terrill=6)
Arizona State =3 (Solomon Bates=4, Carl Bradford=4, Lawrence Guy=7)
Louisiana State = 3 (Quinn Johnson=5, Matt Flynn=7, Donnie Jones=7)
Texas A&M = 3 (Terrence Murphy=2, Mike Montgomery=6, Johnny Jolly=6)
I just quickly scanned through the data and this is what I came up with so please post corrections if there are any (there is likely a mistake or two).
I don't think Ted has drafted a player from these schools:
-Miami, Fl
-Michigan
-Notre Dame
-Oregon
Wisconsin was on that list until he drafted Abbrederis last year.
The last time the Packers drafted a player out of Michigan : John Anderson, 1st round, 1978
Having no ILBs is not much more of a hole than having Hawk and Jones.quote:Linebacker is the only place this team has a potential hole.
Same hole different year
That's what she said.
Any port in a storm

Really? That almost seems impossible. Nice trivia PJ!
Same hole different year
Smaller bill.
Details on Raji and Guion contracts. TT and Russ Ball showing fairness, common sense protections. Lotta cap room left for the 2015 re-signings.
http://www.packersnews.com/sto...-year-deal/70822388/
The Green Bay Packers gave defensive lineman Letroy Guion a one-year, $2.75 million contract earlier this week, but no guarantees beyond that.
Guion's deal calls for a $1.5 million base salary and a $1.15 million roster bonus that's paid out in $71,875 per-game increments, but didn't include a signing bonus. He can earn an additional $100,000 workout bonus for taking part in the team's offseason program, according to an NFL source with access to the NFLPA salary database.
The structure of the contract protects the Packers if the NFL chooses to suspend Guion following his February arrest... He'll also need to make the Packers' 53-man roster to earn anything other than the workout bonus...
A two-game suspension could cost him $320,220.59 of that total, while a four-game suspension would result in a deduction of $640,441.18...
Raji, who suffered a season-ending biceps tear in the preseason, agreed to a one-year contract that includes a $1.15 million base salary, $500,000 signing bonus and $100,000 workout bonus. Because he missed all of last season, the rest of his playing-time incentives count as unlikely to be earned bonuses.
So while the contract could be worth as much as $3.5 million, Raji counts only $1.75 million against the Packers' 2015 cap at the moment. The Packers still have $18,255,142 in cap room, according to the NFLPA database.
Why would we want to take a step down from Eddie the beast?
But, seriously, EL is perfect for this offense. AD would end up taking away from AR's production. EL is the perfect compliment. Lynch would also have been great a few years ago.
I am happy with the O. Time to shore up the D a little. One good ILB and a CB and DT(?) as depth and we are looking good.
GB has one of the best rosters, talent wise; in the entire NFL.
AND, I still say, the best team last year did not even participate in the Super Bowl.
TJ Yeldon is a mid-round draft prospect from Alabama who was Lacy's yang to his own ying. Those 2 were quite the 1-2 punch for the Tide. He's projected I believe somewhere around a 3rd pick.
I don't think TT will grab a RB that high but you never know. Lacy would love to see him in G&G I'm sure.

Wright: A quick look at our free-agent tracker tells you all you need to know about this division and why the Green Bay Packers are the best team in it. Green Bay hasn't signed a single player from another team in free agency, yet teams around the league have signed a total of seven former Packers. What does that tell you? Easy, the Packers do a tremendous job of drafting players and developing them, which explains partially how Green Bay has put together double-digit win seasons in five of the last six years. Yeah, yeah, we know the quarterback has a lot to do with it, too. Detroit, Chicago and Minnesota so far have brought in a total of 17 free agents from other teams, with the Bears leading the way with 11 new faces. Green Bay maintains its level of success through continuity on the roster, which is achieved by drafting well, developing the talent, and rewarding those players when it's time. Detroit might be gaining a little ground on the Packers, but no other team in the division has built as much continuity throughout the organization as Green Bay. Until that happens, the Packers, hands down, remain the best in the NFC North.
"Green Bay hasn't signed a single player from another team in free agency, yet teams around the league have signed a total of seven former Packers"
Damn!! Speaks volumes to the scouting department and draft acumen of the Packers.
ROTTT!
@RapSheet: #Raiders have signed Packers RFA safety Sean Richardson to an offer sheet, source said. Green Bay can match, but there is no compensation.
Admire Richardson's coming back from a dicey injury, but must admit I was disappointed in his 2014 play. Doesn't play to his measurables, stiff, and misses too many tackles. Reggie's got money to burn still so I guess it will depend on how far TT is willing to go on a fringe roster guy.
I've read that it takes a long time to learn the safety position in Green Bay.
The Packers recently got burned on McMillian and MD Jennings
With the potential deficit at CB, its possible that Hyde will need to focus more on CB and less on Safety in 2015.
Those points taken together might lean towards the Packers matching the contract offer.

@RapSheet: Agent Brian Parker confirmed #Packers S Sean Richardson signed RFA tender for #Raiders. Wouldn’t offer up $, but source says 1-year, $2.55M.
If true that's a million more than Packers' tender.
EDIT: Silverstein with more details.
Green Bay - The Green Bay Packers are going to have to figure out whether they want to pay guaranteed starter's money to S Sean Richardson, their No. 4 safety but arguably their best special teams player last year.
Richardson, a restricted free agent to whom the Packers offered the lowest possible qualifying offer, signed a one-year, $2.55 million offer sheet with the Oakland Raiders, an NFL source said.
The Packers have until late Monday to decide whether to match the Raiders' offer or let Richardson go without any compensation.
A source said the deal consisted of a $1.35 million signing bonus, a fully guaranteed $1 million base salary, and a $200,000 roster bonus due at the start of training camp.
Richardson's agent, Brian Parker, did not return a phone message or reply to an email seeking a comment.
However, a source said Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie made the decision to pursue Richardson for about the same amount of money it would have cost the Packers to submit the middle RFA tender ($2.356 million).
