GD, keep posting your posts. Your opinion is very much appreciated by me!

Raji is going to play like a beast next year at NT, you can mark that down right now. He wants to go out and earn that monster contract in 2016. I doubt the Packers will be the ones that give it to him, but he'll give them what they need at NT to win another title next year. Once Raji and Guion are back in the fold, I think the Packers will have a very good defensive line next year. If they can add a quality CB and solve what is right now an unmitigated disaster at ILB (they literally have no one there but Matthews, and he shouldn't be playing there), they could have a very good defense next year.

FTFY.  Asking a NT to play DE is like asking a guard or center to play tackle.  Different body type and skill set.  Expecting him to play out of position and excel was just poor coaching.  If he's healthy this year, I fully expect him to bounce back and be at least an above average NT.

I think Perry is plenty athletic enough to handle OLB. Perry has been actually pretty solid at OLB, IMO, when he's been healthy/available. You could argue that not putting him at LOLB is out of position because he was significantly better at ROLB.

NTs like Raji are supposed to be at NT or 3-tech and nowhere else. They're don't generally have the athletic skillset you want from a 5-tech, they're built to brawl in the interior. They're not built to press the OT, set the edge and move laterally with the play. In fairness though, legit 5-tech Ends don't grow on trees. There's a reason so many teams run a 43, it's hard to find a legit guy like Justin Smith or Brett Keisel. Most of those guys want to slim down and be pass rushers where the big money is at. So when you're a 34 team and you're missing an End your option is to plug in anothe DL who may not necessarily be suited for it or make a fundamental shift in philosophy and switch to a scheme that you do have the right guys for. I guess it's easier just to plug in an ill fitting player than switch a different scheme.

I don't share the optimism for B.J. Raji.  The guy hasn't been a very good player outside the last half of 2010.  The Packer's run defense tanked when he went in the starting lineup, and he was basically invisible as a pass rusher in the last three seasons he played.

I'm all for moving on from him but couldn't argue if the Packers brought him back on a 1 year, 2 million dollar deal or something like that.  There really doesn't appear to be any other good options in terms of free agency (in this case meaning players released by other teams), so if the Packers don't get locked into a multi-year deal they might as well roll the dice with Raji.  Raji/Guion/Pennel band-aids the position well enough (assuming Guion doesn't get suspended) where big Ted could wait and address nose guard during the 2016 off-season.

The sad thing is this guy probably could be a monster if someone could light a fire under his ass.  Is that Raji's problem or the coaching staff's problem?  All I know is this guy should be way better than he has been, he proved that the last half of 2010.

If some unfortunate accident should befall a certain timid, spirited Viking transplant in Northern CA it's wise that I don't leave an electronically traceable trail of bread crumbs.

On the record I wish her nothing but the best and I discourage violence. Off the record I say code reds are an invaluable part of  community training.

I mean community togetherness....

While I agree that playing Raji at DE was not the right decision, based on what I know, I'm just as interested to know how he accepted his new responsibilities. IOW, did he give full effort or did he go through the motions?

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. And B.J. likes to eat...

Exactly.  We see it the exact same way.  If Raji really was a lazy POS, why did he stay in Green Bay for rehab.  Why was he seen being so active in practice teaching the young guys who could take his job?  And why was he seen on the sidelines for every game?  That isn't normal for most players, especially not players on a 1 year contract (Finley did not do this in 2010).  Being on IR almost segregates you from the team and some players handle it poorly.  Raji didn't and that's a big reason why I think TT is interested in bringing him back.

And Raji wasn't actually that terrible as a DE, which I think is a testament to him.  He wasn't good but he was serviceable.  Not bad when you're playing out of position.  And he never complained even though he had to know it was bad for his career.

I guess time will tell but I have very high hopes for Raji as a NT.

Actually, I was poking fun more than 'calling him out'.

Judging by the picture in the linked story that Packy provided above, he didn't look like he was missing too many meals.

But, come to think of it, didn't one or more of the beat reporters/internet media guys write that he showed up over weight and out of shape a year or 2 ago? I don't recall if that was the actual case, but it seems I remember the accusation.
