2023 went better than anyone could have hoped and Jordan Love and the O give the fans a lot to be excited about in the future.

The NFC also looks to be there for the taking next season, so time to turn the page and consider what moves the Packers should and should not make this offseason in order finally make it back to another Super Bowl.

1) TRANSFORM THE DEFENSE. 95% of Packer fans expected Purdy to drive the Niners to that game winning TD. The defense underperforming has been going on for far too long. Coaching-wise, other, better defensive coordinators are surely available. Don't be complacent. Bringing Barry back would be a mistake.

As for the personnel, there were 8 1st round picks but no difference makers on the D in this season. It is time to consider doing something other than just drafting defense in round 1 for the 12th time in the last 13 years and hoping the D plays better (see #3 below).

2) MOVE ON FROM THE FOLLOWING VETERANS: Thank you for your service, but Bakh, Dillon, Runyan, Savage and Campbell should all be permitted to continue their careers elsewhere for both performance and salary cap reasons. Any others besides JAGs like Degaura & Nijman?

3) TRADE FOR OR SIGN AN ESTABLISHED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OR TWO. GB needs to add players who can come in and immediately help on defense. It has two 2nd, two 3rd, and two 4th round picks in the upcoming draft. That is sufficient ammunition to add a veteran defensive player via trade. Or, make room under the cap and sign an Antoine Winfield, Jr. caliber player (if not Winfield himself) who plays both intelligently and with passion.

Whether it was Reggie White or Charles Woodson back in the day or Z or Rasul more recently, those who have played with the most fire and had the greatest impact on the defense have often come from outside the organization.

4) D0N'T REACH FOR A DB IN ROUND 1. GB picks 25th in round 1 and has obvious needs at CB and S. HaHa, Randall, King, Savage, and Stokes are all DBs who were drafted at around that same point in the draft ... due to need.

It would be better to get a plus offensive lineman, RB, EDGE, DT, or ILBer at 25 than to draft yet another DB out of desperation.

5) GET ANOTHER RB. Aaron Jones was fantastic down the stretch but he is turning 30. Wilson is just a guy and Dillon needs to move on.

If Gutey could find a young RB, especially one with some speed, to go along with the Tackles, TEs, and WRs he's hit on in the past two drafts, the offense would be in awesome shape going forward.

6) OPEN THE COMPETITION AT KICKER. Gute nailed much of the 2023 draft, but Carlson in round 6 was a costly failure (at least this season when he missed the most kicks in the NFL). GB has two 6th and two 7th round picks. Try again.

With the 5th most capital in the upcoming draft and what should be more room under the cap than was available this season, the Pack has every opportunity to improve the roster in an attempt to win it all next season. Moreover, with Barry purportedly no longer under contract, there is no excuse to not at least try and improve the coaching on the defensive side of the ball.

What else should be done to get the Pack back to the big game?

That was quite a look into the future there SteveLuke.  Literally everything you asked for except for Dillon being back, but that's on a absolutely team friendly contract.

6) OPEN THE COMPETITION AT KICKER.

  1. Enter Jeff Hafley & a very special Free Agent
  2. All Vets listed with the exception of Dillon on a VERY team friendly deal
  3. Enter Xavier McKinney - Clearly the gold standard in Free Agency this year
  4. Drafted LT. Only DB worthy of #25 went to Lions at #24
  5. Enter Marshawn Lloyd. Jim Nagy at Sr. Bowl stated he's the best RB in draft
  6. Roster currently has 3 kickers. Competition open at ALL spots on roster with the exception of QB & even QB better look over his shoulder and improve.

Health will be key as always. Hopefully the new conditioning staff will have these guys stretched out enough to avoid the hammys they've seen over the last 2-3 years. It seems they're well on their way as numerous reports of extra long stretching sessions have surfaced.

How about the defense stopping the run for a change? Force the opponents into passing and some INT's @MichiganPacker touched on this in his post.

Super Bowl Championship is a team achievement. It takes all 53 and more

Cliff Christl says the media needs to STFU about the Chiefs potential 3 peat and its our jobs to help illuminate the blissfully ignorant

https://www.packers.com/news/i...ut-from-the-rooftops

"More importantly, it would show an ignorance of NFL history for anyone not to mention the Packers twice winning three straight NFL championships. They did it under Curly Lambeau from 1929-31 and again under Vince Lombardi, as you referenced, from 1965-67. However, I anticipate that if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl again next season, they'll be widely hailed among national media as the first three-peat champs. In fact, it has already started.

That's why I think we as an organization – and maybe you as fans – need to start reminding the sports world of what is the Packers' greatest pride and joy: 13 NFL championships, the most in league history; twice being three-peat champs, the only franchise ever to do so; and five titles in seven years, the only franchise to win that many in a decade."

Go Packers

I've already started out here in CA. My narrative below and I'm making sure everyone in my orbit knows.

  1. Packers have won 3 straight....TWICE
  2. Packers have 13 World Titles no other team is even close
  3. Chiefs have 5 world titles (1) in 1962 AFL. (4) In Super Bowl era.
  4. FYI. Packers also have (4) in SB era
  5. NFL history didn't begin in 1966
  6. Multiple AFC teams will give the Chiefs fits this year
  7. Chiefs ain't winning 3 straight Owls
  8. On the off chance the chiefs actually get there...the Mighty Green Bay Packers will stop them from winning 3 straight & Andy Reid will retire.

I seem to recall some similar crap going on back in the 1970's when the Steelers were winning most of their Owls. Maybe something about them doing a 3-peat?

And fans, primarily, love to create "yeah, but..." arguments to suit their tastes. The first is usually separating the Superb Owl era from the NFL Championship era (because dinosaurs still roamed the Earth way back in the 60's).

Anyway, it's all fluff 'til the games are played. There's still 6 months of TC, preseason, regular season, and playoff games to be settled before any "3-peat" discussions start.

I'll predict the Packers will win the Owl before the Chiefs win another one!

I'll cut to the chase for you.....at least they added these 2 paragraphs.

Of course, the NFL didn't start in the Super Bowl era, so the Chiefs might be looking to set Super Bowl history, but they're likewise chasing the man whose name adorns the Super Bowl trophy.

Vince Lombardi's Packers of 1965-67 were the last league team to win three NFL titles in a row, claiming an NFL Championship in '65 ahead of winning the first two Super Bowls -- including Super Bowl I against the Chiefs.

All of them.

IDK.....the play where he dropped it in the bucket to Doubs vs. KC on 4th down has gotta be top 2. Doubs got smashed after catching it too. That was a gigantic Mahomes-esque play. Even the KC fans were like.....WTF?!?! Only our guy is supposed to do that!!🤭

I'm going to start a new catch phrase (even though it's a single word).

"Dime-ing"

As in, "Love was dime-ing all over the field!" And, "Love is dime-ing in the end zone!".

Maybe you'll end up like George Costanza, who went around telling women he invented the phrase "Pardon my French."
