Do you think Nichols makes the PS? I know Gute doesn't like to cut his draft picks, but how is Nichols' injury coming along?

From Bill Huber at SI.com: “The Packers will place Nichols on injured reserve, with the expectation that he’ll be given an injury settlement. A seventh-round pick who led the nation in rushing and scrimmage yards at Central Michigan in 2021, Nichols missed most of camp and the preseason with a shoulder injury.”

More from Bill Huber:

“The Packers will release long snapper Matt Orzech, a source said, though that’s only a procedural move. He will be re-signed on Wednesday.

Why?

Players placed on injured reserve on Tuesday are out for the season. Players placed on injured reserve on Wednesday (or thereafter) are out for a minimum of four games.

So, the plan is for the Packers to keep an injured player on the roster on Tuesday so he can go on injured reserve on Wednesday. The source would not identify that player.”

A couple from Brandt...

Such a tough day in the NFL, the day I hated the most. Hundreds of players - who did everything the team asked them to do for months - are released. Some will return on practice squad, some will surface on other teams, but for many, the dream ends. So many players, so few jobs.

Teams do remember how players handle being let go. Some are angry, fists balled up, a lot of "I can't believe they kept that guy over me!" That doesn't sit well. Some shook my hand, thanked me for the opportunity and wished ME the best going forward. I'll always remember those.

Thanking the team for the opportunity is the best way. The Front Office has a job to do too. Everyone knows the team cannot keep 90 players. No reason to get mad because I assure you, if you put out good tape, another team will come calling.

Cuts so far seem about right for the Packers. Mildly surprising Austin Allen but gotta get down to 53. Thems the rules....

While I understand that the Packers aren't swimming in cap room and they are in a *gasp!* rebui** year for all intents and purposes, I still can't believe that GB will go with Rudy Ford as their starting safety opposite Savage.

I just find it hard to believe there isn't a talented, young safety that some NFL team is going to try and sneak onto their practice squad that the Packers could snatch up. OR trade for a vet safety who's an upgrade.

Let's see what the day brings.

This post is to get this thread on my email.  We have been traveling for the last week.  I just want to know who is cut-traded-or whatever.  Thanks for all your contributions for keeping little OLD me informed.

Always remember.....the roster is a living breathing thing. Cutdown day isn't "The End"

He'll keep churning the roster all during the regular season. Pack got Rasul in like week 8 or something, right??

From Silverstein:

CB/S Innis Gaines has been released, so both backup slot guys have been let go. Packers have lots of options with Keisean Nixon, Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas and Carrington Valentine. Nixon will be the slot in the nickel and one of those four can move to the slot in the dime.

No way, Heath was not going to make the team after Clifford demanded it

Heath looked great in the preseason, but we should do a poll on how career catches he'll end up with. Will he end up with more catches than these guys? - all of whom were preseason and training camp stars after being UDFAs or late round picks (I'm not putting Donald Driver on this list because he's obviously an outlier).

I'll say Heath ends up somewhere around 80-100 career catches.

Allen Lazard - 169 and counting

Jeff Query - 141

Geronimo Allison - 89

Jake Kumerow - 27

Jeff Janis! - 17

Trevor Davis - 16

Abbrederis - 13

I think they want to use the IR "trick" with Tenuta, which has been speculated by others, so they can potentially bring him back this year.

Why is Silverstein suggesting Douglas can play the slot?  He did last year but he is not quick enough there.  Honestly, he should be the other starting safety alongside Savage.  If Stokes wasn't out, I bet Douglas would have been tried there all preseason.  I guess the D-staff wanted to sort the bodies at safety to give someone a shot to win it before making major changes.  But if you want your best 11 on the field, then you may as well roll with Valentine at CB and Douglas at safety.

Herman is living in a fantasy...something has to be seriously wrong with him for the Broncos to cut bait on him after 3 years. Sean Payton or not...if the juice was worth the squeeze, he's be around still.

He doesn't have to match or even beat any of these guys. Even if he's a bridge to the next great receiver. He's perfect for the team in 2023.

Move the chains in 2023 baby!
