That's what the Packers hoped initially, but apparently opinions vary and they were forced to re-evaluate their evaluation.

Will you now do the same you ungrateful biscuit-eater ?

Report: Packers Not Looking to Trade or Cut Aaron Rodgers

According to various sources within the Packers organization, the team is not considering cutting or trading star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

“No, that would be stupid,” said Packers general manager Ted Thompson.

“Why would we do that? Why would you even ask me if we would do that? It’s a stupid question. I can tell you with 100-percent certainty that we will not trade or cut Aaron Rodgers.”

Of course, NFL teams are known for diversionary tactics during the offseason to keep opponents guessing at their true plans, and Thompson likely wouldn’t want rival GMs to know that he may cut Rodgers if a trade can’t be worked out.

....

“I mean, it’s definitely something they should seriously consider doing,” said Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery. “I’m not going to tell them how to run their team, but there’s a lot to be said for trading a guy at his peak value. Or is he really even at his peak value? It’s been a few years since he won a Super Bowl now and he’s in his thirties. It’s probably best that they just cut him.”

Here's the thing I love about Emery. When he sees a problem or deficiency, he attacks it via multiple angles. He doesn't just sign one FA, he drafts the position as well. I think the Trestman/Emery duo are going to have a fantastic run in Chicago.

Maybe the Packers can trade for Shea McClellin.  After all, that's who TT wanted a couple years ago, plus this way McClellin won't break Rodgers's shoulder in a game (it would happen on Family Night).

Things is though, none of these guys are NT's and reportedly the Packers are wanting to play BJ there more this year if he [re]signs.

Ted don't flinch.

2 out of 3 gone and the third on a plane not going to Wisconsin.  Way to go Ted!!!

Er, MD Jennings? Hello!

Yeah. Ok. 1 year contract for a 16 game starter puts him right there with Byrd, Whitner and Bethea. I am one with my humiliation.

Really silly and totally unnecessary use of the quote feature here.

Hmm. There's a heap of irony in that response. Like I've ever had an ounce of humility on this forum. In keeping with the theme your take is as bad as Jennings play on the Riley Cooper TD pass.

Now you come back at me with a Golden Tate reference. Something like I should have just batted the ball away. I'm gonna make a sandwich.

Apparently re-signed. RT : Hi Green Bay!!! I'll enjoy your winters for two more years!!

Nothing official yet but it would appear Mike Neal agreed to a 2 year deal.

So does the Neal signing count as TT signing a free agent or not?  I mean Neal WAS a free agent and could have signed with anybody. This is not like the Shields signing because Shields never hit free agency.

It only counts as a FA signing if GB gave Neal a 5 year deal worth $32 million and $14 guaranteed.

If it's 2 years and $4.7 million then it's simply a smart football transaction.

Time will tell.

Neal isn't ever going to be a complete OLB but he did some nice things last year, particularly with pressuring the pocket.  I think he's a solid rotational signing.
