Shields will end up on Minnesota. It is their way. Then he gets to advertise the Packers every day in the locker room with his big tattoo. It is a win for the Packers either way.
Sounds to me like Jones wants to stay a Packer. Is it all about money in signing him? Maybe a good locker room vet that you pay a little more for and keep.
Oakland is the team I would think would most likely sign Packers free agents. McKenzie has over 60 million to play with and he knows the Packer roaster almost as well as Ted does.
Another though crossed my mine when I was reading how the Queens have created 39 million in cap space. The amount a team is under the cap is not the whole story, teams also have potential to create cap space. The Packers are between 33 and 35 million under the cap without doing anything. There must be a bunch of cap space the Packers can create if they have a need for space. The Queens probably have very little in potential to create more space now.
The Queens also have only one starting D-lineman, one starting linebacker and no viable QB on the roster.
@AdamSchefter: Packers and B.J. Raji are close to completing a 1-year deal that will keep the DT in Green Bay and off the free-agent market, per sources.
Hmmm. Chance for Raji to audition for his next gig since he forgot to last season.
Good news, I was wondering how we would account for the 12 tackles we would lose by him signing elsewhere.
I'm good with Raji back on a 1yr deal. No long term commitment/big money and it should make him extra motivated to dominate so he can get that big payday
They must have convinced them he will be used more like he was in 2010 and less like he was the past two seasons. Good-bye Pickett?
If he wasn't motivated last season, he never will be.
One year deals to keep a player out of FA are usually the framework for a longer deal. It wouldn't make since for Raji to sign it otherwise. Not before free agency starts.
Yeah, it sounds like the team is just buying a little time until they can get a longer deal hammered out. If that's how it plays out I hope it's an incentive-laden contract that rewards production.
Good news, I was wondering how we would account for the 12 tackles we would lose by him signing elsewhere.
Not to mention the one blocker he occupied on most plays.
I'm surprised Raji actually wants to come back given that he was vocal about his role this past year. Maybe the interest in him at the pre-FA agent/team meatings at the combine in Indy wasn't that great. Or the Packers indicated his role and position would change. Or both.
There are already conflicting reports popping up, including one that says the Packers haven't even extended an offer. Can't really believe anything at this time of year, but it would make sense for him to at least explore his options before settling on a 1-year deal.
FWIW, Rapoport is saying he would move back to NT if he stays with the Pack which is good news.
I said all along they'd resign Raji. He needs to prove it this year. He's shown what he's capable of. A 2010 Raji makes that defense quite good.
I can live with this as long as it's not close to 8 million.
If they go to a more one-gap front, a "prove it" deal would be just fine. That would also fit guys like Jones and Daniels better, most likely. Worthy, if ever healthy, is also mobile enough to play in a one-gap set up. CJ Wilson might be gone then, but is that really a problem?
Reports are 4 million for one year, Raji.
Doesn't sound like the team is really interested in anything more than one year based on press reports. Can't really argue with the signing at that price.
Even if Raji is re-signed I can still see TT going DT in the first round of the draft. There are several good ones that might be around at #21.
A 2010 Raji makes that defense quite good.
A 2009, 2011, 2012, or 2013 Raji would be a waste of money.
Probably means Pickett is gonzo...esp if they are moving Fati back to NT.
And they would have Raji, Worthy and Boyd as NTs on the roster, younger and (all but one) cheaper.

There is no position on defense that couldn't use help through the draft.
Latest i've read is he still is going to see if he can get a better deal elsewhere.
A little bit more on the twitter about Raji.

An #NFL source tells @Haylov0204 the proposed Raji deal with #Packers does contain some incentives. Could be finalized as soon as tomorrow.
$4M base with incentives and a move back to Nose would probably be the best DL signing this team can make in FA this year. Call me a sucker, but I actually believe MM is going to have more say on getting guys in their best spots this year.
Is Raji a turd? I don't know. I definitely see some similarities to Cletidus Hunt.
However.....He's still young. This will play well in the locker room as the younger guys see that they can get paid too.
There's more to this than just "what Raji is worth".
"It's not Fantasy Football. At some point I will make the call" - TT
Per @Haylov0204's #NFL source, Raji intends to sign #Packers' one- year, $4 million offer. Incentives could push value to $6.5 million.

I'm not believing anything until LSU's mom tells us.
Interesting. He's better suited at NT. That probably played a role in getting him to come back. Maybe we'll see a more motivated Raji. I'm cool with him back at this $
1 year contract, motivated to get paid & playing NT?
I'm assuming the incentives are most likely easy to reach too
I'm in. If true, that's a good value signing & again, it plays well in the locker room.
Someone needs to calculate how much that is per tackle.
At the 2010 rate...
$6.5 million / 39 tackles = $166,666.67
At the 2013 rate...
$6.5 million / 17 tackles = $382,352.94
I know you're being funny but if we get 2010 Raji at $6.5 million, That my friends, is outstanding value.

Good news for whom? He is a really average NT.
Reports are 4 million for one year, Raji.
What? But, but McGinn said it was $8 million.
And they would have Raji, Worthy and Boyd as NTs on the roster, younger and (all but one) cheaper.
Zero chance Worthy place NT. Probably the worst GB DL at holding up blockers ever.
If reports are to be believed (grain/box/block of salt) Green Bay may be going to more one-gap assignments up front. That wouldn't be good for Pickett, Wilson and Jolly (somewhat) but would for Worthy, Jones and (in his mind, anyway) Raji.
Here's more freshly- stirred schit from the JSO
Somebody reported today that Raji was close to a one-year deal, but sources told the Journal Sentinel the deal is not imminent and there are indications Raji may not accept the Packers' offer.
