And like hearing that Bryant had a meeting in GB even if he never made it. I really think Ted is serious about adding a DE this year.

TT is always serious about adding talent, but not at the stupid rates required to play in the stupid season. He has brought in DL talent before only to watch other teams overpay for that talent.

Raji and Pickett tip the scales at 337 and 338 lbs.

Agreed. Danields is not a nose tackle. Heck, the Packers usually take him out on running downs.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 7m

RB Michael Bush is being released, per source.

Was that a one and done with Bush and the Bears?

The Packers over paid for Shield because he not a good story for the national media. When was the last time he shot up a bar, well folks face it he is boring.

The Packers will be looking for a new starting center if a report by the New York Daily News is true.

Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News tweeted today that Packers free agent Evan Dietrich-Smith could sign with another team shortly after free agency begins at 3 p.m. tomorrow, most likely the New York Giants.

“Heard free-agent C Evan Dietrich-Smith could sign quickly tomorrow,” Vacchianio tweeted. “Giants are the favorites, from what I can tell.”

If the Packers lose Dietrich-Smith, then either second-year pro JC Tretter becomes the front-runner for the starting job, or the Packers will have to find a center in free agency to take over as starter.

As soon as one considers these doctors are doing this for a "fee", it ends any argument over the merits of these letters.

This isn't the only factor that taints this process, but it takes 2 or more to collude.

I was psyched when I heard about Sam Shields Mon morning. TT strikes on the eve of free agency, brilliant! Numbers seem a bit high now but once free agency kicks in it will look even better, especially if Shields' production continues to crest.

You can't improve a D by losing you best free agent.

I got a feeling this is the first of several smart moves by TT in free agency...

Being a good NT isn't about girth, it's about strength. Being 330 lbs. makes it easier to play NT because you have that natural strength and you can take the pounding coming at you, but a guy like Daniels is as strong as any 330 pounder and he's quick enough to avoid taking that constant pounding. I think about guys like Jay Ratliff and Randy Starks playing NT, those guys kicked a$$ earlier in their careers because they are/were very strong and very quick. They dominated Centers, who tend to be on the smaller side, and collapsed the pocket. I'm not saying Daniels needs to be the starting NT or even play there significantly, but I think he should be in the mix there because I think he could have a lot of success.

Why would you waste a good interior pass rusher by having him take a beating as an undersized NT on early downs? Makes no sense. Find some other big and leave Daniels where he is. He's going to finally be that Cullen Jenkins-type GB has been looking for. Would you put Jenkins at NT?

It seems like you really struggle with projecting how players fit on the DL in the 3-4.

It's a combo of attributes. Otherwise a horse like Kenny Peterson, who was as strong as they come, would have been all-pro.

I'm quoting myself because it's clear you didn't get this far JJwattSD. And yes, depending on the package, I would slide Jenkins down to 0-tech and let him work over a Center (ala young Jay Ratliff). And I think there were occasions where Capers did that (he lined up at 0, 1, and 3 in the Psycho package).

Didn't Starks and Ratliff play in one gap schemes? If we go to a one gap scheme Daniels will kill it at NT. 2 gapping? No way.
