Of the 20 FAs they had to start the off-season, the Packers have re-signed 7, 4 have signed elsewhere (Newhouse signing with CIN today), and 9 are still on the street.

And the latest on Finley is he is at least 2 months away from being cleared.

I hope Newhouse sticks with the Bengals and is active for all their games.

I'd be thrilled if the Packers could get a 7th round comp pick for him.

I'm curious about the Jolly situation.  He clearly showed value when he was healthy and the season was younger.  But I've read several GB writers already writing him off after the Peppers and Guion signings.

Jolly will make the roster, and be a contributor in 2014. He may be a bit older than one would like, but we have to remember that his body wasn't getting abused on the field for all those years he missed.

What about prison abuse....

Wonder if Dirty Sanchez will be a starter for a year or so for a team that drafts a rookie QB with a high pick.  So as to not throw a young QB into the mix right away with a crappy team in front of him.Cleveland or Jacksonville come to mind.

Seems like a lot of people have been saying he should just give it up and take the insurance policy.  Gotta consider that, as generous, giving, and customer friendly as most insurance companies are, for some strange reason i get the feeling they're not gonna just drop 10 mill at his feet.  He's gonna have to go through the process and probably be turned away by several teams before that policy can even become a option.

When Sanchez went to Foxborough in 2010 and outplayed Brady in a divisional playoff game it looked like he was on his way to good things. Rex eventually screwed him up and  then the Tebow circus happened and that was that.

Hes not ready to start. He needs to go somewhere and get his confidence back. The guy knows how to play QB. More than a few of the level headed teammates he had in NY all say there was a time Sanchez was capable of leading a team. Rex and Co just screwed him up.

That's not too far-fetched at all, TS. There are too many teams that need somebody at QB. It's perpetual in some places like Buffalo, Cleveland, and Arizona, and some teams that have an established QB (namely Cincinnati) would benefit by having a better one.

Of course, that's not to say Sanchez is capable, or even ready for that matter, but he should get a chance to compete in TC somewhere. As C'Jon notes below, getting away from the circus that is the Jets is the best thing that could happen to him.

Since 1 or 2 year, incentive-laden contracts are becoming the norm, that should only solidify his chances.

If Finley isn't cleared by now it really makes you wonder if he will ever be cleared.  It also shows how delicate it can be as a player in the NFL.   One injury and your career could be over.  Unlike Nick Collins or Robert Brooks though Finley never got the big time contract and even if he does come back I doubt any team is going to throw a lot of money his way.

As for Jolly, I think there's a much better chance for his recovery and I hope they can get him back.   Before he got hurt he was one of the better players on D and he's another active big body on that DL that can cause problems for other teams.

He got paid a lot of money in 2013 to play TE. While he didn't have a big-time lengthy contract, he was paid very well last year.

He did get paid last year Boris but he would have been better off taking a lower per year (but longer) contract because chances are the overall guaranteed money would have been more.   He and his agent took a risk and it could come back to bite them now.

Longer contract does not equal more $$.  JF was paid handsomely.  If that same deal was spread over 4 years, chances are the signing bonus would not have covered the lost (unpaid) salary of the out years (assuming he would have been cut).

You mean the team with Brian Hoyer returning and the other one who re-signed Chad Henne to be their bridge QB?

I went over to the Bears board after the Peppers signing. Most of them were beating up the Packers for making a bad cap decision. Apparently they don't quite realize that Peppers has a bigger cap number on the Bears this year than the Packers. And if he crashes and burns the cap hit next year is manageable. But Bear fans have never been the brightest fans around.  They swear it was just a get even move by Peppers to sign with them. Of course Peppers has 30 million reasons to play well this year and next.

Another James Campen reclamation project. He'll be Breno Giacomini in no time

Just like the owners over at Augies are pumped about Captain signing in Mpls.
