thought about posting this in the "cuts I'd like to see" thread but thought it was more appropriate here.

of the three (White, Janis, Monty), I personally prefer Monty. He can't stretch the field like Janis, but he could develop into a nightmare in the open field. Many draftniks pegged him as an RB coming out of Stanford. I could definitely see him ripping off some big gains on those quick slants and short routes. Also, those plays where a run is called but the CB playing off and Rodgers darts it out to a WR, that could be where Monty makes his home. Very dangerous in the open field. Excited for him to develop.

Yeah, and just think what he could do out of the backfield... then, imagine what he AND Cobb could do together out of the backfield. Cobb, alone, was a defensive nightmare there for opposing teams.

So the first part of the cuts to 75 are in:

ILB Tavarus Dantzler
OT Fabbians Ebbele
ILB Josh Francis
DT Lavon Hooks
OT Vince Kowalski

The media guys are speculating that Dantzler might be a candidate for practice squad. 7 more to go by 4 PM tomorrow (assumes Jordy to IR).  That announcement will partially answer the question regarding what they do with Abbredaris, but that may be delayed until cuts to 53.

MM Tuesday presser, ongoing. Starts by saying they are still working through getting to the roster number of 75.

They're going to deal with Masthay the same way they dealt with Mason Crosby. He'll only be replaced if absolutely necessary and there's no indication the organization is anywhere near that point yet. His poor performance would have to extend into the regular season before they'd get there.

That seems most likely michiganjoe. Not sure there is a big enough gain to be had by bringing in another who is just marginally better, especially with the comfort level Crosby has with Masthay holding for FGs and PATs. They will want to keep Crosby dialed in as tight as he can be, and part of that is in keeping Masthay.

As much as we think we could do better. When they released the kid from Alabama, Masthay had unleashed some insanely long punts that week in practice. It was really something to see. Completely fell off after that. Hopefully he gets that back.

Exactly Boris. In 2014 the Packers punted a league low 49 times. DAL was next at 57 times. Those 8 punts is just shy of 2 games worth of the league average in 2014.

Masthay, who signed with the Packers in 2010, averaged 44.1 yards (37.0 yards net) on 49 punts last season. He has career averages of 44.3 and 38.6.

So to summarize:

  • Masthay is averaging an abysmal net of just over 38 yards this summer.
  • This is a clear drop from his career average net of just under 39 yards.
  • Might be time for a change with a guy whose net last year averaged just under 39 yards.
  • We can feel good about his consistency, as his career net is just under 38 yards.

Carry on.

probably Rong on my Crockett making team prediciton- Neal is better and happy about that.

I also expect to see 100% onside kicks, 100% go for 2 and 100% go for it on 4th downs. This strategy will give Abredoughribs a good chance to make the team as a flare route runner and onside recoverer.

Count me in as one of the fans that would like to see John Crockett make this team. He has impressed the hell out of me with his gaining extra yardage after first contact. He's got some good power.

Soon, Henry. Soon.

Gunter top rookie in preseason, per PFF

Pretty impressive showing so far.  I personally think PFF is the best analysis available to the casual fan, so I think this says a lot about how well Gunter is playing.  Hopefully this translates to long-term, regular season success.  Been awhile since we've had a big, physical corner.

Nah, just visit timesfour and we'll tell ya who sucks and who doesn't

"Gunter doesn't suck "

See how well that works ?

Yes, but how much does PFF suck?  Is that -1.0?  -2.0?  -2.5??  It needs to be quantified.

A +13.4 is not always better than a +11.2 but perhaps a +10.3 is 98% certain to be better than a -3.4 etc.
