Poll- #2 pick

I want Parker by a hair over Wiggins and Embiid, but wouldn't be at all disappointed with any of the three.  I think taking Exum at #2 would prove to be a stretch, although he looks great on video, albeit against so-so competition. I think Cleveland will take Embiid, but Wiggins wouldn't shock me either.  I think the Bucks take whichever Jayhawk Cle. doesn't. 

I want Wiggins, think it will be Parker, but am completely OK with any of the 4. 

Who cares or maybe Who doesn't care.  

I am seeing Wiggins projected at the 2G... That would be interesting if he could pull it off.

I still think Parkercwill be the best basketball player of this draft- but I am now pretty convinced based on the reports and the way Hammond seems to draft that Exum is the guy. Hammond likes tall people with long arms. Parker has an already evolved game but Exum would be a very tall PG who would (if developed properly) represent the thing that makes teams successful- the mismatch. The team  that have the mismatches win.

Im ok with a trade down to 3 or 4.

 

 

Honestly, I'd be ok with Parker or Exum - assuming Embiid goes 1.  I'd rather trade the #2 (Wiggins) to Philly for 3 and 10.

I dont care, I want the Bucks to add as many picks as they can in this draft.  If they don't have 3 1sts by the end of the day, they ****ed up IMO.  They need to clear the decks and start over with picks, picks, and more future picks.

And that would be stupid. This isn't the NFL- you don't get more value with extra picks. Admittedly, there is depth in this draft, but when you pick top 2 you pick the player. The NBA is about the top players- when you have the chance to get a franchise player, you pick him.

If #3 or #4 are crazy about Wiggins, I would trade back.  Going back farter to get someone like Smart would be really risky, and have to require some sort of future unprotected pick. 

Man... Risk ain't the word. That's riverboat gambling there. We're probably talking about Boston or LA- where they would be pressured to get a marquee name. If they give an unprotected lottery pick, maybe. Maybe of the Bucks are in love with Exum, and they trade back to 3 or 4 and still get him and get that extra pick? But hat seems a little far fetched. Too perfect. If you're dealing Boston or LA.. But then your falling into the later top10. Don't like that.

My feeling is that it is possible that Orlando would give the 4 and the 12 to get #2.  We would then get Exum and whoever....Stauskas, maybe? I don't like that idea, though. I agree with MC, you grab the player at #2- and I am hoping that player is Parker- he should excel right away, and could be a force for a long time.  He would give the Bucks' new ownership instant goodwill with the fans, and is a not a character risk in any way.  Wiggins is awfully intriguing, too. Bottom line- NO to trading down.

personally if that were the scenario, I dont think Philly selects Parker.

 

Everything coming from there signals that they like Wiggins and Exum.  If Orlando moves to 2.. it might even be to select Exum.  I know they love him.

 

If we trade with Orlando, i'd say its a 75% possibility that Parker is there at 4 anyways.

Smart is a terrible player to target in this draft.

 

He is a chucker, doesn't pass well, pouts on the court, had a very unforgettable sophomore season.  Seemed to me that he wasn't even the best player on his team most of the season.. especially in the tournament too.

 

I'd pass on Smart altogether in the top 6.  After that, he might be worth rolling the dice on.

 

My personal order (assuming Embiid is healthy).

3. Wiggins

4. Exum - I've only seen clips, he could move up depending on how he does in workouts with teams.

7. Randle

8. Stauskas

9. LaVine

10. Vonleh

11. Saric

12. GRobIII

13. Smart

14. Hood

I like Vonleh more than Randle, but I'm pretty sure I'm in a minority

I see trading down as an option given the following scenario.

 

Between 2-4, the Buck's talent brass considers it a toss up.  Flip a coin.

 

Now, I know nothing about Exum except what I have read here - 6'6" PG with a lot of length, matchup nightmare.

 

If Philly is certain of someone at #2 and the Bucks believe that between 2-4 it is extremely uncertain who ends up being the best player, trade down.

 

If not, do not.

 

And I do NOT want the Bucks to trade down below #4.

       
       

I am right with you. More complete game. Randall did not impress me in the Tournament. I thought Vonleh was definitely the better player.

I think Randle is a pretty safe choice as well.  He's a prototypical PF that can play with his back to the basket and get to the FT line.   He might have some challenges defending out on the perimeter but I think he's got a game that will translate well to the pros.  

 

Not sure about trading down unless a team is willing to offer multiple 1st round picks and even then there's no guarantee the future prospects will be any better than this year's draft. 

 

If I had to go (in order) I'd choose Parker, Wiggins, Embiid, Smart.   I don't like Exum at all.  He's extremely young, unproven, and he really needs to toughen up to play in the pros.  He's the biggest boom/bust player in the draft IMO.  I'd much rather they take a chance at the freak (Wiggins) or the injury prone guy (Embiid).

I think Hammond has a bit of an inclination to "get cute."

 

Given that and what you wrote Tschmack, I am not in favor of trading down for the #4.  I want Parker or Wiggins.  Talent along with more of a sure thing.

 

 

On another matter, last night I recalled the discussion around who the Bucks should draft #1 when they took Bogut.  Quite a few preferred Marvin Williams.  He hasn't done a whole lot, has he?

Wiggins would be the closest possibility to becoming Marvin Williams.

The 2005 draft was a tough one- you had Deron Williams and Chris Paul right after Bogut and Williams, neither was ranked ahead of either Williams or Bogut.

The Bucks had recently drafted TJ Ford who made a full recovery from the spine injury the following season, and also had Mo Williams developing as a viable replacement. They were not in the market for another PG.

Well, then, I lean more and more to wanting Parker.

The Bucks pick is pretty clearly evident in this clip.

 

Charlie is a metaphor for Herb Kohl.  "Flowers" is an anagram for "Ref Slow" and "Algernon" is Dante Exum, who will be rookie of the year, but be out of the NBA in 4 years.

in the scheme of things...it probably doesn't matter....with no hard cap and/or franchise tags, whoever the Buck's pick will want out of Milwaukee after 4 years anyway if the new owners/GM can't develop a team that has a chance to win it all...

 

notice I said "chance"...at least the NFL has a system in place that does give every team that chance...

i think the future is looking a lot better for Milwaukee and as long as the Bucks can compete and be willing to pay (which has never been a problem BTW) then they should be able to keep their guys 

no, I mean the gone in 4 year complaint isn't accurate.  You can control a good player for longer than 4 years if you so choose, unless they are a second round pick who blossoms.

Good article in the JSO today about the new ownership group and their expectations and thoughts about their 3 second round picks.   Lots of options. 

I am really excited about the future direction of this team.  Kohl was a great owner but treated the Bucks like the Cubs.   Spend money like a drunken sailor but there was ok plan and very little accountability to winning or lasting improvement.

Most of the mocks have CLE taking Embiid, and the Bucks taking Wiggins. I have been on the Parker wagon from the start, and I see nothing to change my mind. He will be great. This perceived limitation athletically is total BS- he's a complete basketball player. And with Antetokoumpo lining up next to him, if there's a tougher defensive matchup, switch them. Parker will be a perennial All Star. That is what they need. And he'll stay, too. He's already said he would be happy in Milwaukee. 

I know Exum is the wild card, and if Cleveland decides to change their mind Embiid is intriguing, but Parker is the "face of your Franchise" kind of guy. He's the pick. If he's there and they pass, it's a gigantic mistake IMO...

Yeah, I really hope it's Parker too and I'll be P'Oed if it's not.

By the way, has it been reported if this 2nd pick speculation is based, in part, on what they refer to what Buck's management is leaning toward?

It may, it seems, per sources, be that the pick could be potentially used as leverage by, nominally, the owners, as part of the plan, as described.  

Rumors that the Kings are interested in Knight for the 8th overall pick.   I like Knight but would do that deal in a heartbeat.  This is a deep draft going all the way back in the top 10.

Absolutely- if the Bucks parlayed Knight into an additional lottery pick this year, Hammond get executive of the year. I like Knight, but I do not believe him to be the PG or SG of the future.

Of course most rumors never end up happening, but I'd be awfully interested in this one.  It would make me wonder if we go Exum at 2, and someone like Vonleh or Randle at 8, or would we go Wiggins or Parker at 2 and hope for Smart at 8, or possibly even fast-riser Elfrid Payton.

Even if it took one or two of the second round selections to move up from 8 to nab Smart, adding Parker and Smart to this team would be flat out awesome, imo.

Even though Sanders was a total knucklehead this year I would be hesitant to give up on him.  When he's "on" he's an elite interior shot blocker and defender.   Plus, I don't know if Milwaukee could get equal value back in return. 

That being said- if the deal is Sanders and Knight for Mac and the 8th pick I would still probably make that move.  It opens up so many more draft options for the Bucks.   Like TSR said they could go Exum and Randle.   Or they could still take a Wiggins or Parker and a PG or big man at 8. 

I really like Randle regardless of what they do at 2.
