They also fell behind and started throwing more, no?

Maybe. Score was 17-16 at the end of the 3rd qtr. The tide shift came when GB went up 24-16 with a 16 play, 78 yard, 9:31 TD drive. Yet, there were over 10 minutes left in the game when the Bears got the ball back and then Cutler threw the pick.

1st half

21 runs

18 passes

2nd half

12 runs

18 passes

game

33 runs

36 passes

Also, on the late CHI TD they threw 6 times. So, before that they ran 12 / passed 12 for the 2nd half.

A season that will also bring his total guaranteed salary to $52 million over three seasons, which would then be the highest number in the NFL during that span.

The Bears just need to stay positive...there is always something you can do.

They could try to optimize his insulin pump for example.

Have doc coach it up.

Well...seeing that it wasn't directed at your wife, nor implied in any way, I think you are going out of your way on this. And for that matter it is a serious comment, in that it has been speculated that some of Cutlers problems relate to insulin management.

I do wish your wife good health.

P.S. has she tried resistant starch? Some people have had remarkable success with post prandial and fasting levels. Let me know.

Anybody get a good read on Raji yesterday ? The times I watched him he looked to hold the point when he was assigned the 0 or the 1, but when the Packers were in nickel he was over G and didn't hold up well at all.

Really disappointed in the d-line yesterday, but even when they did maintain gaps, the ILB fill was simply awful.  Bears ran for 180 yards or so, not a good start to an improved run defense.

Where's the Boot ?

Packdog, after watching it again, Raji looked pretty good in nickel situations, especially 2nd half. He was either with Daniels or Boyd, and both got better pressure than I had expected to see. That psycho package is for the birds. They should dump that. Ran a ton of base 3rd-4th quarters, which seemed OK with Daniels, Raji and Boyd. Still lost out a lot v. the run. Got decent pressure though. BJ especially. Boyd did OK. Daniels really struggled. Looked slow.

Other items. Adams played way better than I thought initially, which I still thought was pretty good. 4 catches in 8 targets, but 2 were u catchable, poor throws, and another Adams slipped. Footing looked terrible. Shields slipped big time too, giving up a good gain.

Hayward looked great in run support. Nice work by Casey. Mike Neal really came on in the 2nd half. Decent spin move up the middle by Raji to put a little pressure on Cutler during the Matthews pick. Daniels got pushed back and Perry had his bull rush stopped.

If not for penalties, Jones could have caught 4 TDs yesterday... Amazing.

Well, the storyline yesterday was about the same as we have been for some time.

Typically we have fewer offensive drives than most the NFL.  Again yesterday the offense had 7 drives compared to a league average of 10.

Typically we are near the top in Points/Drive.  4.43 points/drive yesterday compared to league average of 2.30.

Our defense didn't force a single 3 and out yesterday, and typically since 2011 we have been below average at forcing 3 and outs.

Our defense forced only 1 punt yesterday and typically since 2011 we are well below average at forcing punts.

This is what we have been and we showed yesterday.

  • We have a deadly efficient offense that scores more points per drive than almost (if not all) every other team every year under AR.
  • Regardless of how frustrating it can be to watch, our defense is predicated on forcing turnovers and holding opponents to FGs in the red zone.  We are unable to force 3 and outs, we typically allow teams to march between the 20s, and we force fewer punts than almost every team in the NFL.

Our offense is under an enormous amount of pressure to score almost every drive, as when they struggle even the slightest, our chances to win decrease significantly.  From a defensive standpoint, it's easy to say with any team I suppose, but with us it's so true - if we are getting turnovers, we usually win handily because our offense is so powerful.  If we aren't getting turnovers, we know this defense typically doesn't get off the field, so, it forces the offense to score almost every drive as their chances are limited.

While we don't need a "top 5 defense" here.  It would be nice to get off the field on some quick 3 and outs more often, something this defense has been unable to do with regularity since 2010.  Hell, even 1 more 3 and out per game would make an enormous difference with the offense we have   Some data below...

Forcing 3 and Outs

2011 29th

2012 10th

2013 23rd

2014 26th

Forcing punts

2011 31st

2012 23rd

2013 27th

2014 27th

Forcing Turnovers

2011 1st

2012 20th

2013 20th

2014 4th

She's not big on starchy foods to begin with but I wouldn't consider what she does is resisting them either. Alls I know is she took herself off the pump because the damned thing nearly killed her 3 times

Interesting data there CaPackFan95.

That probably at least partially explains why the Packers seem to have so many problems against QBs that don't turn the ball over much.  If they aren't getting multiple turnovers, they basically aren't stopping the other team much at all.

We've got to quit doing this on the board. There are jokes cracked all the time about conditions affecting my family, including diabetes. They aren't meant to be personal attacks on me or anyone else on this board. If you don't want us to make fun of a condition afflicting your family members, make a list of those conditions and ask Boris to sticker them.

BTW, one of my best friends is a Vikings fan, a condition worse than death itself.

If I were a DB, I'd be kind of pissed at Perry. Guy could not get home to Cutler to apply pressure, more less affect a throwing lane or get a sack. Wow, that rush with him is bad. Not to mention, he stops zero runs. Zero. And he was exploited. A lot of conversions/scores with him on the field. Our DL really did them no favors either. Elliott, Peppers, Matthews, Neal and Sometimes Raji seemed the only ones capable of pressuring Cutler. BTW, Matthews fared better pressuring Cutler working from inside rather than outside.

That 3rd down conversion stat is disgusting.

Like CapFan95 said, if we have even ONE more 3 & out, it can make a huge difference.

I'm done watching this defense FAIL, every single game. Our talent level isn't that bad. It's time for a change at DC.

This is not a 1 game rant. This is after watching SEASONS of the same defensive fail game after game after game.

Yup, you are right on that. The comment just caught me at the wrong time and I just felt joking about insulin pumps wasn't a laughing matter knowing first hand how dangerous they can be. I apologize and will never use my wife or her ailments to ever go off on another poster ever again.

Agree Boris.  Capers has had just one above average year on defense and it resulted in a Super Bowl win.  Every other year they’ve been flat out terrible on defense and not surprising, they’ve yet to go back to the Super Bowl.  If they can just be the 15th best defense in the league, this team wins it all.  All they have to be is mediocre but they can’t even pull that off.  So frustrating.

Actually, our D always starts off poorly, often because we run some ****ty players out there. Start Mulumba in place of Perry who shall forever remain inactive, and we will be fine. Maybe Datone does something.

It took 3 or 4 years to weed Brad Jones out of the system. Started every year though...

I firmly believe our D will improve after 4 games or so. That's usually how long it takes before he starts "trusting" the younger guys.

Give me the lumps with more talented, younger, hungrier players. Any day.

Hey   I'm as positive as the next guy, but this start looks all too familiar. Getting rid of Hawk and Jones was supposed to make them better and they are, but the soft middle is still there. Maybe they should sign , she holds the point of attack well.

The talent level is that bad. When Packers offensiv eplayers hit free agency, they're snapped up. When a defender hits the market, it's pretty much crickets. ILB has been a wasteland, Matthews is the only difference maker on the defense and they haven't drafted another starting-caliber pass rusher in forever. The defensive backfield can be solid, but they have one guy, the innactive UDFA Gunter, who can bang with big receivers like Jeffrey. The defensive line is just a bunch of guys.

For as loaded as the offense is, there's just not much on the other side of the ball.

Chicago was also behind in the second half.  The should have thrown less.

Seems like TOP was as much a factor as score was, pertaining to rush yardage in 2nd half.  Could be wrong, but felt like Pack had a couple long drives and that probably limited the rush attempts for the Bears.

Yes. On the road. Against a divisional opponent.

Packers 2nd half drives:

J.Jones 1 yd. pass from A.Rodgers (M.Crosby kick) (6-59, 3:04)

R.Cobb 5 yd. pass from A.Rodgers (M.Crosby kick) (16-78, 9:31)

E.Lacy 2 yd. run (M.Crosby kick) (4-48, 1:46)

The defense is littered with mediocre rotational guys.

Anderson had a great rookie season, then got hurt and never did anything else of note.

It truly was a negative to not hear Buffone and OB post game yesterday.  That dude was nuts.  That dude was a Bear through and through.  But goddammit he was a treasure to listen to after another beatdown of the Packers.  OB just yelled for the sake of yelling.  But Buffone would waver between snark and denial and anger and apathy.

It was missed.

Jones...awesome. glad we got him.

special teams ok...

Won a typically tough game 1 road game against the bears

Letting Cutler actually get away...several times and get yardage?..come on...

Penalties...gotta fix that

Rusty. You are right. I am thrilled with this win! Huge. Division game on the road at CHI. Gotta love it. Those, we have come to learn, you take any way you can.

That Bears staff is miles ahead of Trestman's. That "on any given Sunday" thing rang true, and thank God for Clay Matthews' play. The INT helped seal the W. The guy was lights out. And, GD, those STs were far better. Good to see. If Shields hadn't jumped offsides on the FG the margin of victory would have been even greater.

Not a bad way to roll back home to prepare for SEA. We really need to beat SEA. HFA. Put some bad juju to rest, once and for all. Hopefully, our guys come out looking sharp. I want the Packers to pummel the Seahags.

Herschel, I don't know if you saw it, but Hayward played some awesome run D. Also teamed with Randall on some solid plays in coverage. I loved seeing that.

Scored more points than their opponent at the end of regulation play.

Now if the meaning has been changed to score 900 more points and injure half the of the opposing team while causing the other half to submit their retirements, then that was the mother of all losses yesterday.

I know its not easy. The one that kills me is sexual assault. I know how horrible it can be for the victims and their families.
