Don't misunderstand there Rusty. 189 rushing yards is unacceptable. The positive is the 2nd half D looked better than the 1st half.

I just *bumped* the +/- thread from the @CHI game from last year and the complaints are almost mirrored to this game. Biggest being the piss poor 1st half and then better 2nd half defensive showing.

Fox and staff are an improvement, but the Bears still have Jay (at least through 2016) and Forte will be 30 this season.

Damn right he isn't.  The boot spent last night scouring every thread in this Forum (and the Brewer forum, just for context) just to plan for the upcoming week.  It's exactly why the last call thread needs to happen later in the game just so the boot can have a digestible amount of content to work with in a week.

Sad commentary on how lazy and unmotivated kids are nowadays right there Rusty, sad commentary.

Me too. I miss Woodson.

On our D, we will get better. This is just going to take time. A lot of new bodies in new positions. We saw the simple progression from 1st half to 2nd half against the Bears. Our D got better. Same with the season as a whole. The second half of our season will see players in more clearly defined roles, in a kind of comfort zone, they'll know what their teammates are doing, and they will play better...

Forte is a damn good RB too. So is Lynch. So is Charles. Packers have some stuff to fix on D, but I'm confident they will get it done.

A simple 8 carries we are talking about, but that probably kills 4 an entire minutes of clock? Imposes more will against an inspired opposing D looking to nail Aaron Rodgers.

Don't you ever listen to McCarthy?  All those short passes are an extension of the running game. it just gets the RB out into open space better.  And with A-Rod being so accurate it is better than a hand off where the RB can get bottled up.  Just a different way of getting the same thing done, move the chains and keep the clock running.  And easier to play the hurry up O and not let the D sub in.

Living in the Chicago area, I suspect I've seen more of Cutler's play than most here. His upside is very high. Not Rodgers/Brady elite but he's in the next tier. He has a big league arm and is more mobile than 75% of the QBs in the league. His downfall is his low points have scuttled the team at times.  The team is running its 5th offensive system since Cutler arrived in 2009. So the idea that the bears are some untalented slouches like the 2006 Lions is wrong.

Except for Shields offsides penalty, the Bears would have scored 6 points on 3 trips to the red zone and 12 in the first 59 minutes.  That's a pretty good mark against a decent offense.

I think McCarthy prints out X4 threads and leaves copies outside his office so if any players wants to do comedy in the weekly talent contest, they have material to go off of.

Only watched 1st qtr and had to watch rest of game on Sun night

I wont rehash the +/- here but some notes...

Both O and D looked rusty due to minimal preseason work.

Shields playing on opposite side of field, different footwork etc. Adjustment period still happening.

D tackling needs to improve FAST. Lots of whiffs were product of training camp w/minimal tackling/hitting.

Cobb hobbled,  a decoy for much of game

D Adams flashed

James Jones is money!

O looked a bit vanilla. Only new play I recall was Lacy as WR on 3rd and 3 Fail - DOH

Probably saving new looks for Seattle game.

My prediction of Packer O struggling early with late INT to seal the deal wasn't that amazing but it was right.

Bottom line: Packers good enough to win against division rival on the road.

This explains why Hawk stopped doing interviews and started his own podcast. Thanks!

Rick Telander of the Chicago Sun-Times watched yesterday's game in my old stomping grounds in the Northwoods. Had more than a few pops in the bar he mentioned in my wayward youth. Friend of mine from HS gets a mention as well.  Nothing you wouldn't expect regarding the local color, I'm sort of bemused Telander seems to contemplate it could be any other way.

Earlier this summer I posted this article from last January which goes into some detail on all the changes the Packers defense made over the 2nd half of the season

http://www.jsonline.com/sports...753z1-287430621.html

Many of the fans here chimed in and said: "its all because of Matthews playing at ILB"

On Sunday, we saw that the improvement in the run defense was not solely based on moving Matthews inside. Matthews was inside and they still got gashed in the 1st half

The changes on the back- end were just as important and those improvements were missing on Sunday afternoon

They didn't have Burnett, the QB of the DBs on the field directing traffic

They didn't have Burnett filling gaps, instead it was Ha Ha whiffing

They didn't have veteran Tramon outside, but instead a talented rookie in his first-ever NFL game. Can't leave the rookie totally on an island so they had the safety shading towards Randall . Chicago knows this and attacked Shields on the other side of the field both in the run and the pass. Packers also played some Cover 2, which hurts the run defense and opens up the underneath throws for Cutler

We also faced a DC in Fangio who went out of his way to challenge Shields' side of the field. He remembers that from his time in SF doing the exact same thing - forcing Shields to tackle ( tramon too)

Its not just moving Matthews that makes the run D better, its 11 guys working together and its also very dependent on help from the DBs in filling lanes

Help that wasn't available on Sunday due to injury and other circumstances.
