NFL teams don't draft players for what they are, they draft them for they think they can be. Thompson took a kid who is 6'2", 300 lbs. with, as you put it, a lightning fast first step who played against and was productive against good competition and was a consensus first team All-American. He took him because of what he could be, not what he was. Good size, lots of athleticism, good background, good production...that's a kid, despite his warts, that you would think a good NFL coach could turn into a productive player. All college football players are inconsistent, that's why the NFL draft is such a crapshoot...the hard part is sorting out the reason for their inconsistency. You know who was the model of consistency in college? AJ Hawk.

The best indicator of future performance is past performance.  It's universal across professions and positions

Worthy was a risk and TT took that risk and he flamed out miserably.  You can sit and rationalize it all you want but talent doesn't always trump effort and desire and motivation.  If it did Ryan Leaf would be a stud and Tom Brady would be a stiff.

Stick to what you know or don't know - your eyeballs.  Worthy didn't always pass the eyeball test despite his "lightning fast first step"

If you didn't see that get some new glasses already

So we drafted a DL who blew out an ACL and had family problems. Genius Belicheat gave us something while we were ditching him in favor of the rest of our DL. Chit happens. DUH

I really believe both our OL and DL are going to KICK ASS this year. Even gloomy McGinn feels we're set (health notwithstanding). KICK ASS BOYS and GIRLS......(season of destiny).
