Amari played special teams but was a disaster.

No argument here, but his coach certainly did him no favors either. I really think with Amari, his confidence went into the toilet early in the season and he never got it back.

His college film just looks vastly different. Hopefully he can just erase his rookie year from his mind and just start fresh.

A few things about 17 after rewatching the NFL Replay of the 2014 NFCD game vs. DAL.

He didn't get going until the 2nd half but he, as a rookie, was the best WR on that field in that game that had Jordy, Cobb and Dez Bryant when Dez Bryant was still good.  Breaking ankles on routes, juking guys after the catch, running phsyical, picking up first downs, getting it in the EZ.  I saw several other plays where he was wide open for big gains but AR went elsewhere.  Anyone who honestly thought he wasn't worth being patient with the year he had bum ankle either had short term memory or simply didn't watch that game or his game vs. NE.  He flashed all the skills that made him what he is today.

Not saying that should have anything to do with his current contract situation but it was quite a blast from the past to see his work as a rookie.  It was silly how good he was in that second half.

An Adams deal seems almost impossible. Christian Kirk, a receiver I can’t ever remember hearing about, just got the following deal:

$20 million signing bonus
$37 million fully guaranteed
$39 million over first two years
$12 million in incentives

Base value: $72M.
Max value: $84M.

It's really just a 2 year contract for 39 million . It's still a lot of money, but not quite as bad as reported.

According to @TomPelissero, the Packers offered Davante a deal that would "easily" make him the highest-paid WR in history. There are still some specifics that need to be figured out, but this is a big step in the right direction.

His deal will be tied to Rodgers time on the team.  I can see a 3 year $100m deal being plausible.  Add a void year to kick it down the road.

But he's not a free agent, so $25m is probably the fair number.  It's a valid criticism of the tag, that it prevents the best players from getting their market value.  But it's how the NFL works for the best players.

If Adams doesn't want $25m per year, I would not blame Gute if he held firm or traded him.

EDIT: Just checked - tag is $20m.  $25m a year is more than generous when a tag in 2022, 2023, and 2024 nets him a total of $73m (at 120% of the previous salary).  Unless my math is wrong, Packers could tag him three straight years at $24.3m per year.  Why pay more than $25m per year?

The idea is not to tag Adams for three years, it's to negotiate by telling Adams "this is what you get under tag for three years" and going from there.  Happened with Dak and Cousins when they were tagged.

By the way, 99.5% of the NFL does not care about the tag.  It's why it's still in the CBA.  10 players were tagged last season.  8 were tagged this season.  There are 1,696 players on NFL rosters at any point during the season.  So yeah, 99.5% of NFL players don't care.

GB would never admit this, but another way to bring down Adam's asking price is to simply wait out most of FA when other teams already spend their wads and there is just no big money to be spent on FA's that is left OR wait even longer and teams needing WR's have now invested in that position via the draft.

Teams have done this in the past, tagging a player and waiting for other teams to blow all their money and then go back to that player and re-engage with them knowing other teams are essentially "done" in FA.

Maybe not the most ethical, but as they say "business is business".
